Madera, Calif. — 19-year-old Melanie Stephanie Rios Camacho of Firebaugh is missing under suspicious circumstances.

Melanie was last seen at her work, Auto Zone on Gateway Dr. in Madera, on November 24, 2023, around 10:15 pm.

Melanie drives a 2014 white Nissan Altima, which was located on November 25 in the area of Avenue 14 and Road 8 in Madera County, abandoned and burned.

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) -- The Madera County Sheriff's Office is looking for 19-year-old Melanie Stephanie Rios Camacho.

Camacho told her mother she was going to a friend's house after work. Detectives have uncovered that Camacho told her friend and coworkers she was going to see an ex-boyfriend.

Detectives said they are still trying to determine who that man is.

A couple of hours after Camacho's mother reported her missing, her car was found abandoned and on fire in this farm area off Avenue 14 near Road 8.

This case is the Sheriff's Office's top priority, and several investigators are working to find the missing 19-year-old.

If I have the location correct, Melanie's vehicle was found burning in a rural farming area, due west of Madera, and northeast of Firebaugh. This location is quite remote, with very few residences in that general area.

IMO this statement is both concerning and noteworthy. Complicating the issue is that MSM reports the identity of the BF is unclear. Hopefully Melanie's family can provide names to LE and these persons can be interviewed.

Unfortunately there have been a considerable number of recent MP cases involving a woman visiting an ex-BF, and such cases rarely turn out well. I hope Melanie's situation is the exception.

This is a very remote area, and Avenue 14 appears to be a desolate paved road in poor condition. The side roads in this area are mainly dirt roads. MOO, but given the fact that this is all rural farming country it would seem unlikely that Melanie would be visiting anyone in this area, unless that person lived on a nearby farm. There appear to be very few residences between Madera and Firebaugh.

I'd be interested in details about Melanie's burned car. Does LE believe the fire was accidental, or was it set intentionally, perhaps to conceal evidence of some kind?
 
One other thing not reported so far is her phone. It seem reasonable to assume Melanie has a cell phone, and if she planned to meet someone logically there would be records of calls or texts to that person. LE should be able to get those records and determine who she communicated with in the days before she went missing.

That’s when her mother tried tracking her cell phone’s location, but nothing came up.

Photos of her car are included in the link above. We also know that Melanie DID have a phone, so her communication with this person, if done via phone, should be available to the family or LE.

MOO, but it seems noteworthy that she told her mother she planned to visit "a friend" after work, but in reality she planned to meet an ex-BF. I'm wondering why she chose to keep this information from her mother.

Especially since she purposely did not tell her mother that she was meeting up with this ex bf. That tells me her Mom did not like or trust that ex. I really wish she had told Mom, so om could have dissuaded her last minute. :(

The Madera County Sheriff's Office says Melanie Rios Camacho's remains were found in an orchard on Avenue 20.

Deputies have taken 23-year-old Vicente Jasso, Camacho's ex-boyfriend, into custody for her murder.
 
Seems a witness was important to quickly solving this crime:

“Then at about 8:45 a.m., a witness reported a car partially on fire near Road 8 and Avenue 14 which was later determined to be Camacho’s car.

Detectives say the witness reported seeing a blue Ford Mustang with a black hood pass him on the street with only the driver inside. The car then made a turn near where Camacho’s car was on fire and passed by the witness again but with two people inside the Mustang.“
