This poor woman and family. It seems they've messed up on her case from the very beginning. From letting her out in the middle of the night with no money, no phone, no transportation, and on and on and on.

OhMyGosh! How could they let her down so badly?

This all just makes me so angry. I can't even begin to imagine how her family must feel. So unbelievably senseless.

It is incomprehensible that such an added mistake should be made in this case...I mean LA has plenty of experience in dealing with suspicious deaths, not their first time.

This is one time when I hope Mitrice's family wins whatever they ask from the county, or city or other agencies who have contributed to this tragedy, and hope that some regulations are reviewed and altered due to this case.

this whole thing has been bothering me for awhile now. I know the area, and I know people that used to work at that station, but something just smells fishy here...

i agree, but i dont really think the sheriffs dept. didnt know they couldnt remove the body...nope, not buying that :) but it just causes me to think back to the presser and how the sheriffs dept. was YELLING at the reporters... i hope that particular bunch of sheriffs dept. is thoroughly - they stink to high heaven.

BBM. I missed watching that. Do you have a link handy? It's ok if you dont.

The info about remains removal was originally posted by Betty on 10-14. The below link has more details.

The LA Sheriff's Dept. admitted to moving the remains of Mitrice Richardson after they were discovered. It was allegedly done w/o the permission of the Coroner's office, though the LASD claims an unnamed representative gave permission.

The news story also reports that the toxicology reports are in and a final report is expected in the next 2 weeks.

Hopefully, this report will shed some new light on the case and answer some questions. Even the LASD admits the area where Mitrice's body was found was inaccessible to anyone who didn't have special training.

This article below tells more of the story. This is the same article linked above.

In my version, LE at first thought they only had the skull, which I believe they would be able to remove it after taking pictures. However when they brushed aside leaves, they realized they had her entire skelatal remains.

On one hand they said they were advised they could remove it, but I think that was BEFORE they discovered they had her entire body, which changes the rules. At that time they were told NOT to remove it, but the officer found out minutes later it was already too late.

I guess they were up against the clock as it was getting dark and they didn't want to leave the bones out there for the animals to get. Because there were so many investigators out there, the fresh smell of humans would attract animals. It's possible that because it was almost dark, it would explain how they missed portions of her remains.

Another difficulty was the spotty cell phone coverage.

It appears it's going to go down to who knew what, when, etc.

PS...I wonder if the screaming the neighbors heard could have been Mitrice being attacked by an animal?.....NO, her entire body wouldn't have been there then. :(

This moving of a body has occurred plenty of times before. There is no excuse for it, but not sure it is covering anything up.

I don't know where to go with this. With the latest information about personal belongings and the nearby house, several things could have happened: animal attack, stumbled on a pot farm, or could have been washed from a nearby ridge after dying. I hope the owner of the nearby house has been interviewed thoroughly. Since that article mentioned that a body, or significant portion of a body were found, it's unlikely that an animal dragged her to that remote area.

Piuma Rd is very windy, particularly in that area. It is also a distinct possibility she was hit by a drunk or unfamiliar driver and thrown into the wilderness, and/or belongings and remains later washed down into the area she was found in. That makes sense, as when pedestrians are hit by cars the force is so great that sometimes their shoes fall off.

Malibu Surfside News reports that the SAR team took Mitrice Richardson's mother and some of her family and supporters to the site where Mitrice's remains were found. While scraping aside some dirt to place flowers for a memorial, they found another bone.

How traumatic that must have been for her mother. Photos from the scene at the link below:

I am taken aback by the fact that that article shows a photo of the bone. Not because it's gross, but because it is a human's remains!

What's bothering me are the discrepancies about the remoteness of the area. Her remains were found about 1/5 a mile from a house where communication was said to be impossible, but wait, communication was possible on this last visit. The initial article said there was no way somebody could access this area, yet another one says it is easily accessible from the Backbone Trail. Someone end the madness!

http://www.bhcourier.com/article/Lo...Mother_Wants_Her_Daughters_Body_Exhumed/73407

The mother of Mitrice Richardson, whose remains were found in a ravine about 11 months after she was released from the sheriff's Malibu/Lost Hills Station, wants her daughter's body exhumed.

Latice Sutton has scheduled a news conference Monday to talk about her daughter's case.

Sutton wants the FBI to look at whether sheriff's deputies moved the body improperly, without letting coroner's investigators examining it where it was found, and if authorities made a rush to judgment in ruling the death accidental.

Forensic anthropologist Clea Koff is scheduled to be at the news conference.

Her remains were finally found by park rangers about two miles from the sheriff's station at 27050 Agoura Road. They were searching for pot.

What????

I'm so sorry if this has been discussed in detail prior, but I can't figure out why LE would remove Mitrice's remains from the crime scene to a completely unrelated address!!?!?!?
Even IF I believed that they were given permission to remove the body from the scene, there would be absolutely NO reason to move the remains to a completely different address...13 minutes from the scene. The ONLY stated reason that the body needed to be removed was that the location of the body was too dangerous for those unfamiliar with the terrain. So, even IF the body needed to be removed, they would have been able to take it straight to the coroner or just move it to the closest place that CAN be accessed by the coroner.
Moreover, if LE took Mitrice's mother to the scene, surely the average person CAN get to the site. It may be difficult to access the area, but obviously they wouldn't have taken MR's mother if it were that dangerous. IMHO. I was under the impression that they had moved the body to the coroner's office.....not just some other random location....a drug house, no less. If this report is true, there is just no way that ALL of these 'screw ups' can be mere coincidences.

Whenever I see this thread pop up I am almost afraid to click on it. It's un freaking believable.

I'm scratching my head wondering if LE is doing more than merely being idiots.

There are a few additional details about Mitrice's remains that I was unaware of. This case is truly bizarre.

From the link posted above....

"Sutton cited several circumstances about her daughter's skeletal remains and mummified arm that made the mother believe her daughter was murdered.

Sutton said the mummified arm was bent in a way that would made if difficult for floodwater or other acts of nature to wash clothing off the body.

Richardson's bra was found unsnapped and her pants unzipped several hundred feet away from the remains, the mother said.

Her underwear, shoes and shirt were never recovered, the mother said.

Koff, the forensic anthropologist who has worked for the United Nations' international criminal tribunals for Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia, examined Richardson's remain at Sutton's request prior to burial.

She said that metallic jewelry and man-made artifacts were found in Richardson's hair, but the coroner's exam didn't examine those materials sufficiently."

yes there may have been some things that went wrong but in this case I think its best to not take things the mother says as fact.
