Bumping for Mitrice and her family. I live somewhat nearby and this just haunts me. I hope her family gets some answers so that they may have some peace.

Agencies mishandled Richardson case

After a yearlong investigation, the Los Angeles County Office of Independent Review has determined that both the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and coroner’s office made mistakes during the recovery of Mitrice Richardson’s remains in the Santa Monica Mountains.

I still think of this young woman Mitrice Richardson, prayers for her family
She was mistreated by people who were supposed to protect

God Bless those who loved her so dearly, she deserved our love
I cannot change her outcome, but I WILL help any young woman I see in trouble
out in public, including video taping/photographing.documenting police behavior
or standing with a confused young person to let them know they are not alone
IN MEMORY ...Mitrice

how cold does it get at night in september in malibu canyon? could she have submitted to hypothermia the night AFTER her disappearance? hypothermics take off their clothes.

Depends on the weather at the time. That whole area has several temperature changes as altitude changes. Under normal conditions, it would have been in the 60s. If it was a heat wave, could have been 70s-80s. It could get to the 40s-50s, but that would be unusually cold for end of summer.

The first episode of the new season of "Disappeared" is apparently about Mitrice, next Monday the 19th on Investigation ID channel.

Mitrice's story is on "Disappeared", premiering tonight on Investigative ID channel.

why did the sherrifs office drop the ball on this case??? is it because they were covering up for one of their own? was there something bad in the marijuana she had that made her act do erratically? so many questions. how did she get to dark canyon? why was she in that persons back yard?

She is believed to have bipolar disorder and had broke out into the middle of a psychotic episode at the time this all went down. Even on the show, it talked about how she hadn't slept in days (a big red flag andtrigger which can lead to a pshychotic break).

I have a relative who has bipolar (its in the family line) and this person went days without sleep and eating properly and one night in the middle of the night set her bathroom trash can on fire and went back to bed, not worried at all about burning up because god was telling her that he would protect her from the fire and this was a test he was proving to her that he existed.

Another time years earlier, she had to be talked off the top of an apartment building. She was about to jump off thinking that she was an angel and god was telling her to fly. (The police got there in time and convinced her that jesus was waiting for her in their patrol car, and she allowed them to come get her off the roof to go see jesus and they promptly took her to the psych ward.

This same person can go years without any signs of the disease, but when stress or something tragic happens (like her mother passing away) and she doesn't eat properly or sleep properly, it can trigger up a breakdown in the matter of days.

back to the trash can fire she set in the bathroom:
Luckily her husband (now divorced her) woke up in time after the smoke alarm went off and he was able to get the fire under control and contained to just the shower curtains and bathroom floor.

But this is a very real delusional effect of someone in a psychotic episode. they lose all sense of reality and can literally do just about anything and put themselves and everyone else around them in serious danger. And when confronted, they sincerely believe you are the one that is crazy because they are absolutely certain about what is reality and what isn't.

They can still carry a conversation and function during an episode, they just have lost all sense of reality and it typically takes something tragic or fateful to take place to end their episode.

This particular person (Mitrice) was in no condition to make decisions for herself and someone should of helped just like you would not leave an old person with alzheimers alone to their own devices.

But at the restaurant she went too, I could see where the guests just thought she was hopped up on drugs or something and made light of her situation.

A bi-polar person (even while not in a full psychotic break) will have no problem apporaching strangers and starting a conversation with them and even say goofy things, because they don't have that inner-conscious voice telling them how to act properly in public. They have grand ideas about what is right and what is wrong and they don't embarrass or understand social graces when they are not properly on their meds.

So hearing that mitrice skipped out on paying her bill. She very likely wasn't trying to cheat the restaurant, but likely believed in her own mind that she didn't have to pay and when they threatened to call police, she wasn't the least bit worried because she knew she was right and the restaurant was wrong in her own bipolar twisted logic.

I hadn't really know in what way Mitrice had been behaving oddly until watching the show; it does appear she was having some sort of a mental break, due to bi-polar or something like that, possible schizophrenia. She was talking "nonsense"(something about revenging Michael Jackson's death?) in the restaurant, but she was able to pass the sobriety test given by LE. She was apparently taken to the station due to the marijuana found in her car. Also did not know that she had recently "come out" to her family and that she was working as a dancer in a lesbian club. She had been going through a lot of changes, I guess. The day before she had been acting very strangely as well.

Police found her journals and looked at her myspace page and she had been writing almost nonstop recently, mostly gibberish, at a pace that made them wonder when she slept.

Honestly, I don't know what to make of her death or where she ended up. It seems impossible that she could have gotten there on her own, but her behavior was so unusual, i is difficult to say for sure. We've seen how far a small child can go in a short time; adults can surely go a much greater distance. I do understand her family's frustrations, but it does seem that Mitrice was the girl seen on the property of a rancher; she was alone then, sitting on a fence. Dogs picked up her scent to show it was her.

I do not think she was murdered. But I do think lots of things were mishandled and done badly by LE.

This is so informative! The Thanks button just wasn't enough :)

It is unclear if Mitrice had a field sobriety test or not as one of the officers stated that he did a test and the other officer stated that there was not field sobriety test. The valet states that he did not see a field sobriety test administered - so it is unclear if it occurred or not. The amount of marijuana that Mitrice supposedly had was less than an ounce which is a citable and does not warrant an arrest.

It is very unclear how Mitrice got to the area where he remains were found and myself and her family were hiked in with the assistance of the search and rescue team. The only way that we could get into the location was with equipment as among other issues with getting to the site we had be harnessed to get over the very large boulders. Her body was found in a creek bed adjacent to a 22 acre private property that advertises as conducting a *advertiser censored* business. There is access through that property to where her remains were found. Also, Mitrice's body was naked, and not all of her clothing were found. Due to the fact that her body was partially mummified it would have been impossible for her clothing to be washed off due to running water in the creek bed. Not to mention her pants and bra were unbuckled.

Are the pictures of the area where her body was found available on the facebook site? The previous site (findmitrice) is no longer available.

I saw Mitrice’s story on Disappeared and then watched the youtube video of the route she probably took from the police station to where she was supposedly spotted. There is NO way she traveled that distance by foot even if she was in a manic state and running fast. Also, if she didn’t know the area at all, how would she know which turns to take? The route wasn’t a straight shot, she had to make a couple of turns at a few intersections to get to where the man said he saw her sitting. Wouldn’t someone driving those roads that night notice a young woman walking alone in the dark? I can ‘t imagine pedestrians walking around there at night is a common thing. Personally, I think someone involved with the police department is responsive for her death. A young woman all alone with no means of transportation or communication, perfect scenario for a predator. I feel so badly for her family, this should’ve never happened.

I saw the Disappeared show about Mitrice. It's a shame that she was not held at the station until her mother could pick her up. I commend this family for pursuing the legal action that might hopefully make the PD change their procedures so this doesn't happen to someone else in the future. It won't being back Mitrice but I have a lot of respect for this mother for standing her ground and fighting this difficult battle while grieving the loss of her child.

Missingnotforgotten, :wagon:! Thank you for posting your input/feelings on Mitrice's case!

Just watched this case on Disappeared. Very sad. Reminds me a little of Teleka Patrick's case.

So many unanswered questions...
