Another day, another mass shooting in America. This one hits close to home and makes me nervous; I work the door/cashier at an LGBTQ-friendly club that has a College Night, and the thought of someone coming in and shooting young people who are just there to dance and have fun...for what?!?

I'm working tonight, and I'm pretty anti-gun, but I admit that it makes me feel better that one of my co-workers has a concealed carry permit, and after shootings like this she always brings her weapon. It's pretty clear that nothing will ever change or stop these guys, so...

Also, not an immigrant. Not a terrorist. Not surprised.

That article says he was cleared by mental health professionals after an incident in April... So maybe he has issues after service and the system has questions to answer..

Either way it's so tragic and somehow we need to work out how to make this stop

Same exact thing happened with the nearby Isla Vista shooter. Mental health call and cleared.

It's so hard to hear and read about these shootings. It's happening more and more and it's beyond sad and scary. IMO Mental illness is at an all time high and that needs to change. I feel so bad for you and for everyone who's scared to go places out of fear someone might show up and start killing innocent people.:(

I feel the same way about my church. Though I am familiar with fire arms and a pretty good shot, I can’t see myself carrying a weapon. I also don’t like the idea of weapons in a church.

Yet, I know someone who carries a weapon to church. Ironically, I can get weary at times of his constant ‘gun talk’. But like you, I know that the threat is not going to go away. As a result, he is somewhat comforting.

It's down right disgusting that everyday people find comfort knowing someone in close proximity carries a gun and could protect you in case of a threat. :(
It shouldn't have to be like this.

I'm just devastated. This makes the 307th mass shooting this year. I think these people need to start being called terrorists. That's exactly what they are doing. And anyone found to have encouraged or aided them needs to be outed publicly and investigated. You have to break up terrorist rings and punish whoever is radicalizing them.

We had mentally ill people since the beginning of time. Heck, in the old days they didn't even have medication to control the symptoms.

I don't know. Maybe the medication is part of the problem.

But the real question is why so many crazy or angry people feel mass murder is a resolution for them.

Bingo. My thoughts exactly.

We did have vets returning home with mental health issues in the past, and my guess is if they were violent, it was confined to being violent in their own homes. Of course, that is also horrible, but my point is that I think the problem is not new. What is "new" is using weapons against the public in mass shootings. (And by "new," I mean in the past generation or so.)

I also wonder about the medications and if the "cures" are worse than the illness for some people.

I've been saying for years that we need to face the fact we have an angry culture and to roll up our sleeves to fix that. I think we don't do that because....it's hard and it means making changes.

Medications could be it? I do know that when I try to quit smoking I took two different kinds. One was Chantix, the other was Wellbutrin. The Wellbutrin made me have a trigger temper for sure! I got off that stuff very quickly.

ETA.. Wellbutrin is given out for anxiety, but it is the same thing as the anti-smoking thing which is prescribed under a different name.( or vice versa, I can't remember of which is which)

I take Wellbutrin and Celexa but I'm not about to go shoot up a local bar...

Anyway, I'm devastated for these people, particularly the witnesses who have now survived two mass attacks. Having never been in this situation, I can't imagine going out in public again after one, but now two?

I went for a walk last night with my mom and I noticed I was more alert than usual, more wary of people passing us. I hate that I live this way now.
