I don't think it would be Ingrid Anderson.

Ingrid went missing in 1971, the UID was found in 1976 with the estimated date of death 4-6 days prior.

That asks the question, what was Ingrid doing in those 5 years?

Could she have been traveling or hitchhiking during that time?

I mean, I understand that its 5 years (a point that another Charley Project members made too), but otherwise everything seems to match....

Since there's no apparent indication she met with foul play or anything at the time she disappeared, there's no reason she couldn't have been alive for five more years.

Exactly!

Too bad that there are few details on her life - was she the kind that was travelling freely/hitchhiking often and away from home for long periods of time?

Has anyone saved a picture of Nipton Doe's teeth? The link up thread isn't working for me. Her two front teeth supposedly overlap, so that would be helpful in comparing to smiling photos of possible matches.

i want to add, it mentioned upthread that this area is very desolate and bleak. i want to expound on that, i actually drove to Vegas a few weeks ago via 58 to the 15 and passed through barstow, newberry springs, etc on the 15. i actually told my husband that I couldnt believe people in the U.S. live like that... it is just appalling out there. there isn't ANYTHING.

Or fell into a transient lifestyle after leaving. Unfortunately that would put her at increased risk of meeting a bad end.

I'm trying to work out exactly where this lady was found. My mom grew up in the antelope valley in Palmdale, Los Angeles county. I'm guessing that nipton is either in or nearby the Mojave desert. That area has always been slightly boring / desolate, but it wasn't particularly crime-ridden at the time of this jane doe being found. The Mojave desert in summer is unbearable, so I assume she was killed elsewhere and transported to the mineshaft.

It's past Barstow toward Vegas, I think.

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned that the deceased doesn't have a 'widow's peak' to the hairline. I don't know about you guys, but the middle of the forehead in the untouched post-mortem photo looks to have a slight dip in the hairline, as one would find in an extremely mild widow's peak. I have a widow's peak myself and it's extremely low-pitched (more like a widow's hill, haha), so she could have a slightly different hairline than what may be advertised. I'm gonna post a refresher link to the post-mortem and see what you guys think.

Idk if it has been discussed but is it possible she was a "niche" or fetish prostitute from Vegas? There has always been a market for softer women, even with men who won't admit it. Just an idea. Would explain why she was never reported.but then again in a domestic where she was isolated for years before that would also make sense. Since she had no kids, I see her being on the younger end of the scale.

I had wondered about the prostitution possibility ever since I read an article last year about women working in the Nevada brothels. One of the things they described was fetishes, costumes, etc. that men commonly wanted, and one of them was swimsuits, not necessarily bikinis.

since she was shot in the back I feel like she may have been fleeing her attacker.

This is kind of an out-there theory, but to bolster your prostitute point, she had a black eye in the postmortem. I took another look, and while it's just as likely that it's random pooling from however the body was sitting, or from being tossed down the shaft, it's also possible she got into an altercation before she was shot while fleeing. Sorta wish they would give more details on how she was shot, and where, since that can help determine the possible way in which she was (it'd be pretty hard to get a clear shot clean in the back of the skull if it wasn't execution-style, for example). But then, that might also be semi-useless info.

If this was more recent, I'd say we should suggest to LE to cross-reference her picture with known prostitutes in the Vegas area. But it was a long time ago, those records might not exist anymore. :\

I think there could be a connection with Susan Rae Perron she went missing walking to a swimming pool on June 13,1971.Gerri Ann Ralston was found in a pond on May 21,1975.The killer might be leaving clues linking one murder to the next with the water and swimsuits.Gerri Ann Ralston was murdered on almost the same date as Jan Doe 778UFCA a year earlier. http://www.lvmpd.com/Sections/Homicide/CasesByYear/19701979/tabid/326/Default.aspx
I'm wondering if these could of started in California desert. They finally got some DNA on this Jane Doe found in Twenty Nine Palms at a mine claim she also has red hair. https://identifyus.org/cases/24677 I was also looking at this case in Las Vegas it's "Very Graphic" is it real or a hoax. http://archive.4plebs.org/x/thread/16576951

The thing that puzzles me is the swimsuit. Aside from Whiskey Pete's and Gold Strike casinos, there wasn't a swimming pool within 100 miles of that location back in 1976.

There are currently some swimming facilities at the university campus at zzyzx Road:

During free time you may relax around the campfire ring, toss horseshoes, use the basketball hoop, or soak in our small pool (season permitting!).

I wonder if the pool was there in 1976. Since the website mentions a "small pool" I assume this was an actual pool rather than a pond.

At the lower end of the estimated age range this woman is certainly within range for a student, though I would imagine that the sudden disappearance of a student from the campus would not pass unnoticed at the time.

And in the open desert, people generally don't want to wander around in a swimsuit. The ground is rugged and dusty, the plant life is scratchy on the ankles, and there are a lot of insects and rattlesnakes.

Or had been taken out there for a "photo shoot". From memory there have been a good handful of killers, including at least one serial killer, who have lured gullible young women by posing as a photographer looking for models.

Fair enough. Maybe not "slightly obese", but i would say heavier than average. Just looking at the postmortem, she appeared to have a bit of a double chin, but I suppose some of it might be postmortem bloat.

At 5' 4" and 155lb she had a BMI of 26.6, which is not much above the official healthy range (20 - 25) and well below the threshold for obesity (30). Officially that would make her slightly overweight, though obviously women were generally slimmer 40 years ago so even being slighty overweight would have been more unusual and more noticeable then, especially in a young woman.
