Was is a late-model Mercedes SUV, that maybe someone would want to steal? :( Really hope he is found safe and well, with only the vehicle being lost... if that.

It's a 2008 silver Mercedes GL 550

Does LE or Piseth's family have any reason at all to suspect the friend?
If they did, we'd be the last to know.

If so, s/he needs to be looked into. In the meantime, the route he would have taken to get there definitely needs to be searched, if not already (I haven't seen anything to suggest this has been done, other than "Chhay's nephews searched a San Francisco parking lot hoping to find his silver Mercedes SUV dumped inside but they didn't have any luck").

I was reading the facebook page and saw different search efforts all going on.

I have the same question: Was the passenger ever actually there at Piseth's home?

If so, it would have to be a different passenger or a different event in the past. I speculate that this reference to a passenger stopping at the house must be a completely separate event, presumably, that passenger at the house would have gotten their phone. Obviously a previous passenger showing up at your house would be a distressing event.

I don't know. So don't put too much credence to this.

The person who "tracked Piseth down at his home" was a passenger from the day before.

If he was en-route to a friend's but never made it, why on earth would that not be the first place they start looking?

RSABBM for focus.

I'm sorry I wasn't very clear. I thought maybe the "passenger who left his phone in Chhay's car Saturday" showed up at Piseth's home, but Piseth wasn't home at the time/he had left with the customer's phone, and he was unable to retrieve it.

Which leads me to believe if the passenger did go to Piseth's, it was completely unexpected and unannounced. Besides, surely they would have arranged to meet at a certain time, at a certain location away from either's home.

It really is unclear from the article, but for the time-being, I'm leaning towards the customer just calling or texting Piseth, rather than showing up at his home.

So now I'm wondering: Where is the passenger's phone now? Did Piseth have it with him when he went missing? Maybe once he was no longer able to get hold of Piseth, the customer contacted Uber, and if so, hopefully, he agreed to have her phone pinged, just in case it's still with Piseth.

By the way, the admin. of the "Missing Piseth Chhay" FB page posted earlier today they have been searching and looking for clues in his friend's neighborhood in the Portola area (where Piseth was last known to be headed - surely, they mean the Portola district within SF, rather than Portola, CA, right?), and that they have also searched parking garages and anywhere a vehicle could be sitting for multiple days.

Also, from another article:
"We also reached out to Uber. The company tells KRON4 that the last time Chhay logged into the app was late Saturday into Sunday morning, so they aren’t able to track his whereabouts after that.

However, they say they’ve given police everything they’ve asked for to help with the investigation." (BBM)

Late Saturday into Sunday morning is fine. WHO did he give rides to?

I'm still hinky with him leaving on Mothers Day to visit with a friend. I'm not saying I am hinky of the friend...just seems that day would be a family day. Moo

Reading more articles and I find •additional details that I havent read before-

•Chhay went on a Mother’s Day hike with his loved ones on Sunday. That afternoon, he left the house in his Mercedes SUV to help a friend.
(Did he leave the boys home alone when he went to the friend's house?)

•His wife came home from her night job as a nurse and was shocked to see he wasn’t home.

While still reading I found the boys are 11 and 8.

Can you request a driver by name?

"Requesting a specific driver

The Uber app cannot match you with a specific driver.

When you request a ride, your app sends your request to nearby drivers to pick you up at your pickup location."
https://help.uber.com/h/1aaf0913-484f-4695-9042-e61fc7613f24

And having used the app, I can attest to this as well. The amount and type of information you enter when "hailing" an Uber is very limited.

Thank You. I was wondering. I guess I should have looked it up.
Again, Thanks!

Missing Uber driver's car found stripped in San Francisco Bayview

Piseth's family stood speechless in the spot where his Mercedes was dumped on Davidson Avenue.

The car was stripped of everything, including its wheels when police on patrol found it and impounded it.

Investigators paid their first visit to Chhay's house Saturday. They took his laptop, iPad, toothbrush, and razor. And, they admit they haven't ruled anything out. "We just have to keep the hope that he is in a good place and that he is ok.
-->There is nothing that I can see at this point that would indicate that he is in trouble," SFPD Lieutenant Ed Santos said.
(I hope the above was an earlier post because why take his personal items if he is not believed to be in trouble)

That's not what Chhay's wife of 20 years thinks. She's sure he is in trouble.

I feel so terrible for Piseth's wife and their children ... :(.

By the way, where his car was found, Davidson AVE, is about two miles from Portola district, where his family said his friend -the one Piseth told his family he was going to go help- lives, or possibly closer, depending on exactly where within the neighborhood s/he lives. So it does look like Piseth did make it to the general area where his friend lives:

So this hard working family man, who waited about 8 years after his marriage to finally have kids - probably so they could afford to provide them a nice, stable life - gets hijacked for his car so a couple of punks could make a dollar?

These criminals have zero regard for this man's family or happiness. No consideration for human life whatsoever unless it provides them income. If that passenger was somehow involved in this, I hope they bust him and his ring of car thieves and DESTROY everything they ever held dear.

I'm just sick inside right now, thinking about the selfish, petty car thieves and what they took from this world to get a wheel. That poor family. So unfair!

Nothing that would indicate he's in trouble? Oh you mean besides the fact that his phone is off, his car was stripped, and no one knows where he is? Sure. No sign of trouble. Grrrrrr.

Yes, this is for sure the "best" part of this report! Makes no sense at all this statement!

Family Desperate to Find Missing SF Husband and Father

A San Francisco family is desperate for word about a missing husband and father who vanished on Mother's Day.

Piseth Chhay, a 48-year-old Uber driver has been missing for more than a week. His car was found Friday night, police said, but not his keys. And his wife said his phone is turned off.

Even as police have little to go on in their search for Chhay, his wife, Rattana Kim, keeps telling her two boys their dad is coming home.

"Especially when your sons ask you in the morning, at bedtime, when you pick them up at school," Kim said, "you have to find a way to answer them without hurting them."

Police found Chhay's Mercedes Benz parked in the city's Bayview neighborhood, stripped.

"It means my husband didn't leave on his own," Kim said. "My husband wouldn't abandon his car in that area."

Workers on Ingalls Street said the SUV was parked there for several days.

"I know he's out there," Kim said. "He wants to come home, but he can't."

While the family holds on to hope, police are processing the vehicle, looking for evidence that might tell them what happened.
