Mary Louise McCullar fits the "possibly looked Latina" description. She has the high rounded forehead, rounded end of nose, full lips, wide spacing between nose and upper lip, and the somewhat hooded eyes. Cheekbones and jaw are close, though the chin appears quite a lot squarer. She's from the area. And there's some phonetic resemblance from "McCullar" to "Carla."

Wish we could see her ears.

As is often the case, I was browsing through possibles for a particular UID, and see someone who reminds me of a different UID. This woman reminds me of Pacheco Jane Doe.

Frances Morales

She has the look of a Caucasian/Hispanic mix. Her height is right. Her weight is right (within 5 lbs), and like Pacheco JD, her teeth appear to be in poor condition. The Circumstances of Disappearance seem to leave open the possibility of a voluntary disappearance. And there is no mention of children (PJD has never given birth).

She is a little bit young, but we've seen plenty of instances where the ME messed up on age estimates.

As for negatives, there is not a matchup on scars. Frances has a scar on her knee (No mention of it on PJD). PJD has a gallbladder surgery scar (No mention of it on Frances), and there is no mention that Frances has family in California. No mention of IV drug addiction, and FWIW, her name is not Carla.

But just because something is not mentioned, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and information provided by the killer may or may not be reliable.

This possible is not rock-solid, but they have very similar facial structures and I think it's close enough to put up on the board, so that if Anonymouse returns, he and his boss can decide for themselves whether this is worth a closer look (if they have not yet filed the case away for good as he indicated that he would).

(BTW, Anonymouse works for Detective Ron Breuss of the Santa Clara County Sheriffs Department.)

Just a heads up for those of you who receive the Investigation Discovery (ID) channel.

Monday (30-Aug-10) on Unusual Suspects, they will be featuring the story of the "Happy Face Killer", Keith H. Jesperson. (i.e., the killer of eight women, including Pacheco Jane Doe).

was checking this one out and I noticed a detail missing in her description - hair color.

are we to assume it's brown?

I went back through the Charley archive, looking for anyone who disappeared from California at any time prior to 1993, whose age would be consistent with Pacheco JD (after taking the time lapse into account).

After eliminating anyone who didn't meet the height specifications, had children, had inconsistent scars or tattoos, or circumstances that suggested that they were probably murdered at the time that they disappeared, I narrowed it down to eight profiles.

Marian Mancia
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/m/mancia_mirian.html
Hispanic (although Charlie says caucasion), few details to confirm or contradict.

Christina Smith
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/s/smith_christina.html
Few details to confirm or contradict.

Sally Schneider
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/s/schneider_sally.html
Few details to confirm or contradict.

Debra Kidwell
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/k/kidwell_debra.html
Has scar on abdomen

Rose Cole
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/c/cole_rose.html
Circumstances support drifter theory.

Stephanie Praszker
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/p/praszker_stephanie.html
Intravenous drug addict with needle tracks on arms

Anna Anderson
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/a/anderson_anna.html
has scar from gall bladder surgery, but also has tattoo.

Diane Dye
http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/d/dye_diane.html
Circumstances support drifter theory.

None of these have enough commonality to get excited about. Of course, she could be from somewhere other than California (although she allegedly told Jasperson that her family was from Sacramento), or she may simply has not been reported missing (which I suspect is the case).

Rose Cole apparently had a drug problem although I know there are conflicting opinion on that about how serious it is. She would have been around 36. Listed between 5'3 and 5'6. Very well could have been living a transiet lifestyle based on her last letters. Also one of the letters stated she had a kidney infection, could that have resulted in a five inch scar on her abdomen. Read someone she may have had family in CA, where I can't remember.

I came across this thread on page 51 of 57 in the UID forum, and decided to bump it up to the front, and run a search again for missing girls named Carla (or Karla), missing before June 1993.

:bump:

I found four Carlas (and no Karlas).

Carla Corley: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/c/corley_carla.html
Carla Owens: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/o/owens_carla.html
Carla Robertson: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/r/roberson_carla.html
Carla Anderson: http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/a/anderson_carla.html

Corley, Owens, and Anderson are extremely unlikely for various reasons.

Carla Robertson is a long-shot too, but if you go on the premise that she staged her disappearance to escape an undesirable home life in favor of life on the road, she could be.

Her height, weight, age (in 1993), and overall appearance are pretty close.

CarlK, Why do you think Carla Anderson is a long shot?

Diane Dye sounds promising. But the whole "Friend seeing her last" reminds me of Heidi Balch.

And I feel like Rose Cole probably died of her kidney infection. But there's no proof so who knows?

CarlK, Why do you think Carla Anderson is a long shot?

The circumstances all point to her being taken advantage of by a predator at the time of her disappearance.

As a mentally challenged person who appeared to be close to her supportive family and proudly living a stable and somewhat independent life, I just don't see her running off on her own to cruise around the country with truckers.

She also doesn't look remotely Hispanic, and bears no resemblance to the recon. And she is too short, too young, and her hair is too light.

There is an article at the site above from 2007 about the detective on Pacheco Pass Doe's case. (Maybe it's already here somewhere, sorry if I'm double posting.) The picture on the wall behind the detective looks slightly different to me. For one thing, she looks younger in it. It says they found a jacket and other piece of clothing, that info doesn't seem to be listed anywhere what kind, size, color or type it was, that I could find anywhere. Every little bit of info helps.! (I have been in the exact locations where this doe was and this one really gives me the creeps! In the 80's used to travel on business up and down I-5 and also Pacheco Pass (152), which has a nickname of something like the highway of death, two-lane road, lots of head-ons. Stopped at Casa de Fruta for rest stop many times. (This ain't no deserted highway!) To think this kind of thing could be happening right under people's noses, at rest stops, etc.......Yikes it gives me the creeps!

you know its funny.. i grew up in madera but my mom was from the bay area and i have driven that highway pretty much monthly my entire life until i moved to san jose in 2006. it is pretty quiet at night. im betting he dumped her then.

I was just looking in the Charley Project updates, and saw this woman listed. It occurred to me that she looks very strongly like Pacheco Pass Jane Doe.

The vital stats aren't that close. Her height doesn't match, the scars don't match, her name isn't Carla and she's older than the estimate. But as for age, we just had a solved case last week in Utah where the Jane Doe was estimated to be between 18-22, and turned out to be 33.

The circumstances appear to be consistent, and she was last known to be in California.

She's still not in Namus.

Julia Moranda's Charley page is still available, so I guess she wasn't a match.

Does anyone know who the killer was or how they came up with the name 'Carla'? I was looking at Christine Lee Boggio but the visual clues arent there. But she went missing a couple of days before in San Francisco, but she worked for the Northern California Renaissance Pleasure Faire, which is just a couple of miles from where this Doe was found. I also considered Christine was another doe found within the same few days only a few miles from where she went missing. Wondering if there are any dots to connect here.

According to Unidentified Wiki:

Carla (or Karla) was a victim of the Happy Face Killer, later identified as Keith Hunter Jesperson. Her name may have also been Cindy.

ETA: Doe Network has a lot more info on her case and some different sketches:
