I live in this area, have all my life. This is so close to home that I haven't posted until now. There is a creep out there and IMO this wasn't his first abduction...going to post a link to another attempt just a few miles away...
well ok, I can't post the link - sorry, kinda embarassing, but if you google search "attempted abduction willow glen" you will find the article. Same description of car - dude used a stun gun. This is very close to Sierra's home - about 30 min or less travel time...there are more attempts in the area...will find and post.

The color of the car was RED. But do you know how many RED cars there are in this area? My sons G/F has one. I dont think the two are related IMHO

Back in early April I made the following post on Thread #9 Post #99

This could be important

Sorry if someone has already posted this:

I hope this is being checked out as a serious lead! Presumably there is more information about the guy, the car and the direction he took off in.

There was an attempted abduction of a 16 year old girl at 5;30 PM in San Jose on Fri March 23; exactly one week after Sierra's Abduction. This occurred about 12 miles north of Morgan Hill. The local was different (It happened in a middle class neighborhood of 1950's track style houses surrounded by urban developed land.) There would have been a much greater chance of being seen here. This was only one guy driving a car.

The location of Sierra's phone and purse suggest her perp was going in the general direction of that location but, at 7:15 AM, there would have been heavy, stop and go traffic into San Jose. All main thoroughfares near the San Jose site would have been very crowded at 5:30 PM. I would consider heavy rush hour traffic to be a poor time to carry out an abduction because the perp wouldn't be able to move fast while LE, using sirens could, and there would be plenty of other drives to notice any struggle going on in the car or other unusual activity. Still, I think there is a good chance this is the same guy and I bet he lives somewhere in the South San Jose area.

At the time I posted this, I though it was just a "long shot" that needed checking out. Now that the vehicle that was used in this attempted abduction (a small red vehicle) turns out to be consistant with the vehicle implicated in Sierra's abduction (a 1990's red Jetta with a black hood), the two investigations need to be linked. We really don't know how seriously the San Jose case was investigated. Were video cameras checked?

The driver in the San Jose case was described as: " a Hispanic man in his 30s weighing about 200 pounds". If he was driving a 15 year old car with a mis-matched hood, I would suspect that he lives in a lower income immigrant neighborhood. There are many such enclaves in the Southern San Jose area. Many of the residents do not speak English but such a vehicle would stand out pretty well. A little publicity and the owner should turn up quickly.

Remember the neighbor who said she knew for sure the family wasn't involved, but wasn't allowed to say anything else ("take my word for it")?

I bet the car is long gone from this area, but could possibly be in the Central Valley or LA region.

BTW, different news outlets are saying black top; I just saw Cardoza on the noon news who stated "black hood," just in case anyone reads that the car has a black top.

I am alos thinking that the windows might have been tinted . Which would explain no one seeing Sierra in the car. If the car is a teenagers or early 20s it is now a days hip to have th IMHOe windows tinted.

Wouldn't be surprised. If they haven't done so already, I hope LE is checking with all local body shops to see if they did any work on a car like this. It's great they put it out in the news, but I would also go to these shops just in case the owners/employees don't see the news story.

Kemo, looks like you are on to something! I'm sure LE is on top of this. In the article, the LE said no more information would be released re the Willow Glen attempted abduction. JDB, the mother stated the red car had tinted windows in the attempted abduction.

And junk yards just in case the hood is a replacement.

I really think the reason they said not related is because the LE found something on eeither her phone or laptop. To make them think the two are not related . It could be the have a idea who took her and have not released that info yet IMHO

And a quote from that article:

It's a minor detail but it always feels good to me when my gut instinct is correct (I never thought they were connected to the case).

Me, either!

Wonder if someone just recently gave them this tip, or has it taken this long to make the connection to Sierra's case? Strange, either way.

:seeya: Thank You for this latest update with respect to this RED vehicle ...

:waitasec: I know there are lots and lots of cars in California ... But can LE search the Motor Vehicles Records for any red Volkswagen Jettas ... and go from there ?

I know it would be tedious ... but ya never know ...

I don't think the color of a vehicle is listed on motor vehicle registrations, at least they aren't here. From the news articles, they don't even know the tag numbers at this point.

Anyone in that area who is driving around can glance at wrecking yards if they're near the highways, and if they spot a red Jetta with a black hood, call it in. Or even used car lots.

In Wyoming fwiw our vehicle registration does require the vehicle color.

I remember a case in the SF Bay Area where a kid was killed by a hit and run driver. The evening news gave a description of the vehicle (that was not as specific as this one) and multiple calls were made to the local police that night that fingered the driver. Think of how many people know the general type/description of the car you drive: friends, neighbors, co-workers etc. People know the cars their neighbors drive, even when they don't know the neighbors themselves.

I'm betting that this car will be identified in 24 hours. It may not be located, the owner may not be id'ed and it might even turn out to be unrelated to either crime, but vehicles are hard to hide.

I suspect that the perp, once the story broke and no description of the abductor or the vehicle was given, figured that he was in the clear and would have no reason to "get out of Dodge". Now, he may take off. The vehicle might turn up burned and the guy might take of to another state opr county. It is really important to act fast.

I had the same thought. I agree, they need to move fast on this one.

I am *kinda* surprised that they didn't release this car picture in a press conference to get more attention... also: has anyone noticed if any of the Sierra fliers have been updated to include the picture of the car?

It's possible the two cases aren't related. There are probably hundreds of small red cars in that area of CA. It's also possible that there could be two (or more) kidnappers running around who drive small red cars. I wouldn't know a Jetta from anything else, I'm not good with makes of cars.
I'm curious... what, in your opinion, could they have found on her phone or laptop that made them believe the two cases were not related? Maybe a friend or someone she knows from school has an older red Jetta and she mentioned it?

Wow! That's good to know, I guess.

On Find Sierra's FB page, there is a link to a reported abduction attempt on March 14. I believe it was also posted here, but on the FB there is a sketch of the man, who was said to be driving a late model, red compact sedan..interesting
