@RHandaNBC
Volunteers of #SierraLaMar search team say they will conduct new search Saturday May 20th in section of west hills of #MorganHill.

The man convicted of kidnapping and murdering Sierra LaMar will be back in court today. The process of deciding whether he will be given the death penalty begins.

"This is going to be a difficult balancing act for the defense because at the same time they said Sierra is still out there and could still be alive, the jury rejected that and now the jury believes that Garcia-Torres knows where LaMar is. It's a difficult showing of remorse if you don't come forward with that information," said Steven Clark, legal analyst.

“It really affected me in a way that I felt like I lost a sister I never really had,” said Sierra LaMar’s best friend Channah Foreman. “I was really close to her in that aspect. We supported each other emotionally.”

Foreman carries a key chain of Sierra’s favorite shoe with her at all times. While she doesn't necessarily support the death penalty, she said the pain of not knowing Serra’s whereabouts is indescribable.

“He hasn't spoken for over five years about anything and what happened to her that's literally all we want now,” said Foreman.

"Defense atty Brian Matthews seeking to tell jury about Antolin Garcia-Torres growing up in poverty, abuse & neglect to explain who he is."

Just another attempt of the defense throwing whatever they hope will stick. AGTs father sexually abused his sister, not AGT. AGT was the little golden boy, according to what his family was telling everyone when he was first arrested. The fact that they were poor means nothing- lots of people are poor, but don't grow up to kidnap and murder. If I were a juror, the only piece of 'who he is' that I need to know is that he is capable of doing the unthinkable, and that makes him unsuitable for society. I fully support DP for those who commit these types of crimes.

This is all the defense has. I am sure some of the jurors have their own life experiences or knows others who may not have had a ideal childhood. I detest it when the defense uses this lame excuse defense.

It is a slap in the face to many millions of people who have had abusive childhoods and were neglected. The vast majority of them never harm another living soul in their entire lives but went/go on to be productive law abiding citizens in society. And even those who had a background of childhood abuse didn't go on to kidnap, murder, rape or violently attack others because they were abused years ago. That is just a cop out excuse so they can blame someone or something else instead of themselves. And of course many psychologists or psychiatrists must find something or someone to blame for someone's wicked evil behavior. If not they will all be out of a job.

This monster is not mentally ill. He may be a full blown sociopath for he certainly does seem to exhibit those traits but that is not considered a viable mental illness under the criminal judicial standards.

As I mentioned earlier it has been a law for several years now that the jury must be unanimous when voting for death. What I hope doesn't happen is there will be one bleeding heart holdout like there was in the Jodi Arias case when 11 voted for death and one who was enamored with JA.... did not. :mad:

ITA!

I believe the DA will use his unwillingness to tell her family where he placed her murdered remains against him. This is a huge aggravating factor and it would be to me if I was one of the jurors on the case.

The DA will hammer that home, imo, and Lopez would be committing judicial suicide if he got up in the face of the jurors and told them they got the verdict wrong.

The mitigating factors will not begin to compare to the aggravating factors.

This is a death penalty case and he deserves no less. IMO
