It says the car is still missing. At least one friend thinks it was an accident. Accident was also a thought of mine... the coast roads can be crazy twisty with drop offs into the ocean.

His body was found near Gualala which is about 60 miles down the coast from where he was last seen in Ft Bragg. He could have gone off the road into the ocean and his body could have drifted a considerable way from the car.
If they find the car they may be able to tell if it was an accident.

Hmmmm just read this thread. So sorry for his friends, and loved ones.
This business partner of his makes me feel... hmmm... hinky meter?!?! Why close the business that others have reported was doing wonderful? Why default on the loan payment? Why skip payment to employees? He was there, he could have cut the checks. But instead, he closed up shop. WHY? How did he know his partner wasn't going to return in a few days? Did he know more? No statement to media at all about his missing business partner, not even to shed light on his demeanor in the days before, or state how the business was doing, or what the plans for the other resturant to open were, etc.

Here are a couple of articles local to where Stephen Pease was found. The first was written when his body was found and the second was in the paper that came out today. It's a weekly newspaper and not available to read online without a subscription.
This article appeared in the Independent Coast Observer Jan 31, 2014. this is the newspaper local to where Stephen Pease was found. I did not look online to see if there might be another article, maybe from the area where he lived, that has more information.

Abalone divers swimming off Gualala found Stephen Pease floating about 125 yards offshore, vicinity of mile marker 3.89 on CA Route 1. He was identified by the serial number on his replacement hips. Authorities have had no luck with GPS tracking of Pease's rental silver 2014 Chevy Captiva SUV. It may be in a dead cell phone zone; we have 'em in abundance up here. Still no answers to why Stephen would have felt all the financial and other pressures when he had a partner in the business! And again I ask WHY was the business immediately closed the day he went missing? Who knew he wouldn't be coming back? Why wouldn't the partner have opened the business and maybe hired someone temporarily to help out until Stephen was back? IMO, SOMEONE knew Stephen wasn't ever coming back, the loans weren't going to be paid, the employees weren't going to be paid, and was OK with Stephen taking the fall for it all.
Whether Stephen committed suicide, had an accident or really had taken off to clear his mind....NO ONE would have known for certain on the day he left!! It still makes no sense to me!
Who benefited from his death? Will the loans still have to be paid? Will the city absorb those costs? And if money was the main reason for Stephen getting away to clear his mind....then why wasn't anything he owned of value sold? It wasn't like he had nothing else to rely on for money! Besides, most businesses it takes up to 5 years to really see if it's going to make it or not.
Even the IRS realizes that and gives businesses breaks the first few years when they don't break even or make a profit!

In November, 2013, its owner, Steve Pease, went missing. He later turned up dead of undetermined causes.
It was later revealed that he was in default on a $1.5 million redevelopment loan he'd gotten to open the place.
"He did a great job, and the place did really well. And then you find out he just had a whole lot of other problems he didn't share with people. I don't blame him, but I wish I'd known. I would've tried to help the guy," Hagar said.
Roseville's Mayor Susan Rohan was all smiles today, as the City anticipates a return of Sammy's customers downtown, and repayment of that nonprofit's redevelopment loan.
"That was always intended to be a long-term thing," Rohan said. "so there was really no blip. Just that downtime in the amount of energy that was happening. But now it's back."
BBM.....and yet he 'disappeared' over that default loan? When it was really a non issue? When the city's mayor says there was really no blip?

As for Sammy, he says he's still more about having fun and being a button-down businessman type. So he's giving the restaurant to his children to run.
About 3,500 people were on-hand for the grand reopening concert he threw in downtown Roseville Saturday night. Proceeds from that concert will go to the Placer County Food Bank.

Feb 16, 2015, the bar had closed once again!
As my fans and customers know, when our restaurants are successful we donate our profits back to local charities — that's always been our overall goal with The Island restaurant but regretfully after almost two years we have not been able to achieve that in Roseville.
I'm very grateful to our staff, family and friends who have supported us. It's been a great ride.

As noted in a clip accompanying an earlier post, both Pease and Yip's signatures were needed to make payments. Yip could not singlehandedly sign checks.

As noted much earlier in the thread (in a clip), Stephen was responsible for writing the checks needed to keep the restaurant running. The restaurant obviously closed that time when its suppliers could not be paid.
The $1.5 million loan was sunk into contracting work during the restaurant renovation, and was not available for pilferage. A single repayment of $9,100 was missed; this was either the first or second payment due (sources differ).
Pease had recently sold his Jaguar, and put his house up for sale. These acts may signal Stephen's financial retrenchment. However, he still had a $70,000 Rolls Royce in his garage, and a quarter million dollars equity in the house. He also owned four or five businesses other than the restaurant. However, it was also noted that Stephen had invested a considerable amount of his own money in the restaurant.
As for Pease's partner, he seems to have been royally shafted. First he was caught up in a scandal and burdened with a broke restaurant he couldn't run. Then it seems the Redevelopment Agency reclaimed the restaurant. No news of what the partner got out of the deal, but I doubt it was much, if anything.
As for the decision to finally close for good.... Well, Sammy Hagar had dedicated any profits to charity, but with no profits, how long was Sammy expected to lose money in his attempt to be a nice guy?
