Someone may have posted these thoughts - I don't have a chance to read every post but read many on here.

I've read over and over that this is how serial killers start - they let their first captives go. If they are not caught at that point, then they do it again and kill the next time because they didn't like all the attention brought on by the first abduction.

And they can't let them out! They'll do it again!!!

I have to wonder, especially considering the gang activity in the area, if her abduction was part of a gang initiation in which the potential gang member abducts someone, rapes that person, then shares that person with the rest of the gang. Yah, totally. apparently the gang unit was called into the investigation, and with 2 suspects (and maybe more) gang makes sense. 18 seems old for initiation, but possible.
Also, human/sex trafficking is a gang activity, depending on the organization. So she may have been taken to be trafficked, and one of the gang members let her go. He's not gonna live long if that's the case.

From what I've read - yes! The mixture of multiple people's sperm from a DNA swab makes it hard for identification of the perp/s...however these dumbazzes don't realize that DNA gene matching can be pulled from the DNA to determine race. The more heinous, notorious gangs are mostly singular regarding race.

walking after rape is certainly possible, depending on the extent of the injuries. I think the shock and survival instinct to get home would help her walk. Maybe whatever was happening was interrupted by someone and she didn't sustain a full (gang-)rape. There was a report that she was sexually assaulted. what that means exactly is unclear.

As hard as it is to say, this poor girl is lucky. someone showed her mercy. otherwise she'd have ended up dead or drugged out as a prostitute. I wonder if, following the gang theory, a gang member knew her or one of her siblings and recognized her.

While it's obviously possible, I think she's really young to have been raped as part of a gang initiation. While I've heard of "kids" being involved in such things, it's usually post-puberty teens... not pre-puberty 10 year olds. If a gang was involved at all, I would think it was more likely that it was retribution against an older sibling or, possibly, parent. Maybe they were supposed to scare her/rough her up and someone thought it went too far (maybe because of a sexual element on some individual gang member's part) and released her?

I agree with everything in general, but there are certainly kids as young as 8 being trafficked for sex, and used for prostitution. Also, a young child is an easier target than an older one, so this may just be an inexperienced or not confident offender. Maybe that's why she was let go. But retribution is def possible. She was obviously targeted and is still in danger (and her family too maybe).
