"This is unthinkable torture," is how Dayna Herroz, the woman's mother, described living through the past year.
It was one year ago Thursday that her daughter and grandson were found murdered in their Southcrest apartment. Tori Vienneau, 22, and her 10-month-old son, Dean, were found strangled in 2006. Police at the scene said that the baby was found hanging by a noose from his crib.

No one was ever arrested in connection with the killings, and police said Thursday the investigation is still open.

Surrounded by family and friends on Thursday, Herroz pleaded for someone to come forward with information about the case.

Police have not said if there are any suspects, but family members of the victims told NBC 7/39 that they think they know who is responsible.

"I'm absolutely sure, in my opinion, absolutely, absolutely," said Herroz.

Herroz told NBC 7/39 that she believes the baby's biological father is the murderer. She said that at the time of the killings, the two were battling over child support. Herroz said her daughter planned to meet with the father the night of the murder and tell him she was taking the matter to court.

NBC 7/39 went to the home of the child's father on Thursday, but people in the residence refused to comment on the case.

Police would not confirm that there was a suspect in the case, but they did say that they believe that there are now other people with information about the crime in addition to the killer.

"We believe this is the kind of case that someone has communicated with others, and we're just asking those people to come forward," said San Diego Police Sgt. Dave Johnson.

A candlelight vigil is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at Bonita Vista High School, which Vienneau attended.

Anybody with information about the case is being urged to call San Diego police at 619-531-2276 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-TIPS.

A family is pleading for help to solve the horrific murders of a Mountain View mother and her baby.

Tori Vienneau and her 10-month-old son Dean Springstube were killed at their apartment a year ago today. Vienneau was brutally beaten and strangled to death. Her baby was found hanging in his crib with a cord around his neck.

"Tori and Dean did not deserve to die this way. Nobody deserves to die this way. Certainly not an infant who could not get away, who couldn't speak. He was a baby," Vienneau's mother Dayna Herroz said.

Anyone with information about this case can call Crimestoppers at (888) 850-TIPS.

A candlelight vigil for the victims will be held Thursday night in Chula Vista.

Tori Vienneau, who was 22, and her baby Dean Springstube, who was 10 months old when both were strangled July 26, 2006.

SAN DIEGO – A tearful mother appealed to the public Thursday to come forward with information about who killed her 22-year-old daughter and 10-month-old grandson a year ago.
Dayna Herroz, flanked by her husband and a family friend, stood in front of San Diego police headquarters and asked that anyone with information about the July 26, 2006 slaying contact police. Tori Vienneau and her infant son, Dean Springstube, were strangled in their Southcrest apartment, the baby still in his crib. Police said both had been strangled with a cord.

So I would have to say that was pretty good coverage.

It's a darn shame that the media waited for the 1 yr anniversary to bring this case to the public.

All I can hope for is that someone is more than ready to talk about what they know.

I also hope that LE has an idea who may know some information about DP and what he did. Honestly, if I were someone who knew DP, and what he had done, I would be arrested for breaking every traffic law ever written as I raced down to the police sation to tell them the information. DP will realize at some point that these people are a threat to him. Anyone who is willing to hang a baby by a noose is willing to take out a so called friend who might be a threat. Come on people....if you are out there, and you are reading this, do the right thing. If not for Tori and Dean, do it for yourself, because Dennis knows who you are.

I live north of San Diego, and this is the first I've heard of this. So it isn't like the story has had blanket coverage. It hasn't.

First of you can't harras a suspect or his friends. It could back fire when the suspect goes to trial( Ie the police were out to frame me). Who knows, there might be a grand jury in place to decide weather the evidence had merit. But this is just my 2 cents.

Thank you thank you thank you!
It finally made the news! Yesterday was amongst the hardest to date but we made it through with the support of so many people here & all of you. We saw many of Tori's friends at the vigil last night at her high school that we had not seen in a very long time, some we hadn't met face to face until then. (thank you to xxxx for taking time to talk with me and for getting that info to a friend of Tori's who is away on very important matters)
Sorry for the code but I don't want this person to get any heat from DP. She will know who I am talking to, & again thank you..call me if you ever need to talk.
We feel that after yesterday this case can't go underground any longer. To the friends we have made here on this site, a million thanks for all your work on your ends.

This is obliquely on topic. I thought perhaps Dayna might find the first video on this page "MacCrimmon's Lament" restful and restorative, with its babbling mountain brook. (ETA: It's not mournful, wistful perhaps, but not maudlin.) I pray for all who loved Tori and Dean daily, and pray that the murderer's day in court will be soon.

Reannan::clap:

Let's hope the RIGHT person sees your message and DOES THE RIGHT THING! After all, like you said in other words, THEY COULD BE NEXT!

I hope that the media coverage brought some attention to Dennis Potts also.
He knows that people know what he did to that beautiful baby boy. Hard to believe that he can hold his head up in public. I hope the media has made that a little harder for him and also for his parents for covering for him.

Your day is coming Dennis. You are on borrowed time as I type this.

I find it harder to believe a young man hasn't gotten drunk and spilled it. So who exactly heard him spill it one night and isn't going to have the gigaudee's to speak up and do the right thing. Silence is another noose... Now or later......... and who do you choose to answer to?

a little more than my .02

Dennis probably has told someone. Killers usually just have to tell someone what they have done drunk or not. They tend to brag about it. I hope that that someone does go to LE. I would hate to be carrying a secret like that around. It would haunt me night and day.

I hope that LE is planning to do more then wait for someone to spill the beans though to solve these murders. The person or people may never come forward out of fear of Dennis. It is hard for me to believe that there was no DNA left at the murder scene. There had to be something left behind. I'll never believe that there wasn't. So far it has seemed to me that the people who could have solved these murders might have been covering some butts.
Money does talk and especially if you are buddies with people in high places.
I think it is time for LE to forget who has money and who is able to pull strings in that town and get this case resolved and the killer put in jail. If LE isn't aware of who the killer is then they are playing deaf, blind, and dumb.

There is at least 1 but probably more that know what Dennis Potts did. One of those I'm sure is his pathetic fiance. She stuck with him all the years he screwed around on her, while knowing. What kind of sorry pathetic person is she? What do her parents think as she makes wedding plans to a murderer? Maybe that's why she is living at the Potts' home. Perhaps they have nothing to do with her. Anyone out there that knows anything better step up now 'cause for one reason, if they know something, the police probably know that they have info which makes them an accomplise to murder and will be charged. Save your *advertiser censored* now because Dennis is going down. It's just a matter of time. Second reason is that if this sick *advertiser censored* can kill two beautiful people, one of which is his son, would not think twice of taking you out too! Let's face it, he is a self absorbed psycho that is out for #1. Wise up Nicole you can be next.

Dennis Potts has a girlfriend that has stuck with him throughout all of this? She must be desperate for a man. Maybe she should talk to someone who knows exactly what happened in that apartment if she is in denial that he is a killer. Potts is such a liar that he probably has her snowed into believing that he is innocent. Wonder where she thinks he was that horrible night? Wonder what she thinks about his website? She must not be much if she is with that creep. She's living with the whole family??? Good grief, that really is pitiful. Evidentally that cord attached to Dennis from his mother never did get cut and doesn't stretch far enough for him to have his own place. What a mama's boy he is. She is crazy to go ahead with a marriage to him. Wonder if she will live with mama and daddy while she waits for Dennis to get out of prison? Gonna be a long wait Nicole.

I hope someone has gutts enough to go to LE put I'm not betting money on it after all of this time.

Did you get to tune in to the radio today with Dayna, etc. That website she listed took me to MySpace so I missed it.

Anyone else listen to Dayna and Roy's interview on the radio the other night? I listened through the archieves and it was excellant. They got a lot of info out over the airwaves and I sure hope that the right person was listening and will make that call.

I've handled the problem let's get back on topic now please. We ask that when something like this happends that you hit the alert button otherwise we don't know that there is a problem the only reason I found it was I was doing some late night reading on the forums. AGAIN PLEASE HIT THE ALERT BUTTON WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH A MEMBER.

Sorry Windchime!! I guess I better go back and read the rules. I do not post often but that one really HIT me as you could tell. I promise to behave in the future. have a great day :-)
