Search on Rubicon Trail for missing man

Warren Elliott, 70, was last seen Friday afternoon on the trail in the El Dorado National Forest.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office reports about 100 searchers from nine Northern California agencies are searching the Rubicon Trail on Sunday for Warren Elliott, described as both a hiker and a Jeeper.

Elliott, 70, was last seen Friday afternoon on the trail in the El Dorado National Forest. He was wearing a blue denim short-sleeve shirt and blue denim shorts, the sheriff’s office said.

The California National Guard is supporting the effort with a Blackhawk helicopter.

Elliott was last seen on the trail Friday July 19, in the afternoon, wearing a blue denim short sleeve shirt and blue denim shorts.

There are approximately 100 searchers representing nine Northern California agencies and organizations out today, as well as the support of the National Guard with a Blackhawk Helicopter.

Search continues for missing "jeeper" last seen on popular trail in Placer County

A search is continuing for a person who went missing on the Rubicon Trail in Placer County on Friday.

Deputies said he is a "Jeeper, not a hiker." However, Elliot is believed to have gone missing while on foot.

Monday, the Placer County Sheriff's Office announced that search efforts were still ongoing. Search crews are focusing on the Rubicon Springs area.

The Rubicon Trail is a popular off-roading trail near Homewood, though there are multiple areas for someone to enter the trail. The trail features granite slabs, sharp rocks and large boulders.

Warren was with a group of people doing a trail ‘rehab’ in prep for an upcoming Jeep Jamboree. Warren was a passenger in his son’s Jeep.
As work was being done, Warren walked away.

Warren Elliott was last seen on the Rubicon Trail on Friday afternoon, before he walked away and did not return. He was with a group of people who were working on the trail.

On Monday, Black Hawk helicopters from both California and Nevada’s National Guard transported approximately 100 trained volunteers to the region where Elliott was last seen, near Rubicon Springs.

How many people were in the group doing work on the trail? How far away was Warren from the rest of the group? If he fell or was otherwise injured, could others have heard him calling out for help?

As a hiker with many Jeeper friends, I’d guess he went to heed nature’s call and fell? Usually you tell a nearby buddy, though, and don’t just wander off. I hope he’s okay, but 3 days is way too long. Imo

Great News!
Warren Elliott was “found safe and uninjured” at Hell Hole Reservoir.

Elliott made his way to Hell Hole Reservoir where he was able to “flag down a person” that had a satellite phone and texted 911, allowing rescuers to locate him.
