Feeling really nauseated and sickened by the acts of that depraved lunatic tonight.

Found a couple of really nice pictures of Nathan, Kathy and Alvin to share. I've got nuthin else.

May God give their family strength to see this trial through and try to somehow "move on".

Together the pair had a family of six children and thirteen grandchildren.

“The children were the centre of their world everything they did revolved around their children,” adds Hodgins.

Alvin and Kathy put family first, something evident in a video taken on their last day.

“We were doing the garage sale and two of the grandchildren came over. Alvin very quickly closed the doors to the garage. It was more important for him to go play in the playground than do the garage sale and that’s who Alvin was with the grandchildren… When those grand-babies came over the both of them just lit up." Mohrbutter says DNA of this earring found in the side entrance of Liknes home matched DNA of Kathy Liknes #garland

FYI I just went back and looked at the jewelry found in the burn barrel to see if there was a match to this earring and I couldn't see one.

Actually ... not exactly. Dangerous offender status can be removed, or lifted.

"Lisa Neve, 26, was designated a dangerous offender in 1994, which meant she could be jailed indefinitely. She became one of only two women in Canada to be labelled a dangerous offender.

But on Thursday Neve walked out of the door of a Saskatchewan jail as a free woman. CBC reporter Cathy Tomlinson spent most of the day with Neve as she prepared for life on the outside. Tomlinson said the former inmate was "ecstatic" but also "in shock" and "nervous" about what to expect.

Chief Justice Catherine Fraser headed a three-member panel that took 15 months to examine Neve's case. Earlier this week the panel said in a statement that it was "not reasonable" for Neve to be ruled a dangerous offender.'"

Here is a good article regarding dangerous offenders that helps to explain it a lot better than trying to decipher the criminal code. Lisa Neve is mentioned in it. You may be surprised how many people are actually designated as dangerous offenders in this country. It does not just apply to people who rape and/or murder.

Regarding the mop, if it wasn't blood DNA, then DNA from the home owners on the mop doesn't really tell us anything we wouldn't expect.

Blood from mop was Alvin Liknes' DNA. Wall & bedroom swab was Nathan O'Brien's DNA #Garland

Dustin Paxton was declared a dangerous offender from his role in starving & savagely beating his business partner and roommate. I think a judge has to determine that they are dangerous to the public at large.

Thanks! I see that case as different as well because the torture was over a long period of time.

I am still curious as to whose teeth were located at the Liknes home. They touched base about the earring found, but nothing about the teeth...unless I missed something.

Trying to stay caught up, but I have a lot of cases I am following that have also been aflutter with new info happening.

This HuffPo article has a few bits I missed, from jan. 18, 2017. http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/01/18/douglas-garland-trial_n_14253840.html

any bold is by me for emphasis, or identification:

Const. Trevor Matthes was one of the first officers to arrive after police received a 911 call from Jennifer O'Brien, Nathan's mother and daughter of Kathy Liknes. He said he immediately noticed a partial bloody footprint when he entered the home.

As I proceeded back through the hallway to attend to what we call the main floor I noted what I would consider to be a tooth — it was laying in that back hallway where it exited out to the east side of the house.''

Afternoon testimony revealed officers eventually found a second tooth and an earring, belonging to Kathy Liknes, on a floor in the house. [does this mean the second tooth belong to KL?]

another article with more " new to me" info:

In the burn pit ashes, Oxton also found a charred circuit board that was later found to be a keyless car-starter for a Toyota Tundra, the same vehicle parked in the Liknes driveway.

[there are three pictures of DG included. At least someone struggled and left marks! ] A photo collage shows bruises on Douglas Garland's head and face, hand and knee, as photographed by Calgary police after his arrest. (Court exhibit)

Inside the Liknes home, bloody footprints matched the shape and size of a pair of shoes missing from Garland's home, an expert testified last week. [If the shoes are missing, how are they certain the footprints are his? Oh... because they found a shoe box at the farm property for a shoe that matched the print ]

Many more photos of items found in burn pit, bone fragments, jewelry and clothing bits, handcuffs; duffle bag contents: handcuffs, knives, leather baton; over 200 pair of shoes from house; contents of outbuilding; and a straight-jacket.

This pic gave me goosebumps because of the broken shovel and hammer inside the burn barrel: [there are several more pics from today's testimony in the comments section]

Still catching up, but wanted to jump in here and say "wow! You guys are on top of things!" The newspaper is just now reporting about the survey plane capturing the bodies in DG's yard...not really new news around the forum!

An honorable and respectable legacy to leave behind. I hope some day this is the focus of who these people were, than what we're all reading about right now.

I hate to be a downer for those who suggested releasing balloons in honour of the victims. It is something that is innocently done to show true caring and remembrance, without realizing the ensuing harm. Can anyone think of another way to show our support and how to honour Alvin, Kathy and Nathan? I certainly would like to do something.

Oh my goodness ... I had never seen that painting of Nathan before and it was like a punch to the gut.

I was going to say the same thing and bit my tongue. Balloons can and do cause terrible harm to other creatures of our planet. I believe sky lanterns are 100% biodegradable. They are lit, released and self-extinguish at a certain height then gently float back down to earth. One can write special remembrances on them. Rather beautiful.

The Crown would need to make a dangerous offender application.

The Crown would need to make a dangerous offender application.

True. Dangerous offender designation predates consecutive sentencing, and the recent addition of consecutive sentencing may have the same result ... although consecutive sentencing must still allow for parole after a certain number of years.

Re balloons - do what you think is right. Personally, there is something full circle about releasing green balloons again when the verdict comes in. I would do it out of love and in support of the O family. I think it was very meaningful the first time it was done in memory of NO. IMO

Yes I agree it is an almost spiritual experience to see balloons released. The problem is with the "full circle" effect. Just saying.

I am still curious as to whose teeth were located at the Liknes home. They touched base about the earring found, but nothing about the teeth...unless I missed something.

I think they said when the dental person was talking about teeth that it was AL. I could be wrong but that was my understanding. I know they did mention the tooth from the house.

Garland committed three murders at one time. I think dangerous offenders have to commit more than one murder at more than one time, so I don't think he's can be declared a dangerous offender. Russell Williams pled guilty, so his circumstances were different.

Crown lawyer Lee Burgess said he would not seek to have Williams declared a dangerous offender because it would have just prolonged the hearing. He called it "superfluous" because he believes the facts he outlined during the week will prevent a parole board from ever allowing Williams out on parole.

It is my belief he drilled the lock in advance. It's just a guess. I could be wrong. From the pictures it's not really all that noticeable and if it wasn't a main entrance, it could go unnoticed for weeks. I imagine drilling the lock is something that would take a bit of time.

I wish that could be proven. As if there wasn't enough evidence to prove premeditation...
