I admit I am horrible with names but I am so confused by the lawyer situation this morning. Has Sanders ever been in court before today?

I just caught up too so apologies for a belated legal question about the victim impact statements:

It seems that judges are supposed to remove material from victim impact statements when it won't be "helpful" to them in deciding sentencing. But the judges have to read that material first in order to decide to strike it from the impact statements, so what's the point really of removing it? They've already read it! No offense to Justice Gates, who is my hero of the day, but that just seems nonsensical to me.

It's like even the defense lawyers have conceded DG did everything he was accused of but if he get's the consecutive sentences, well that looks bad for business for their firm so they are fighting it - not really out of any love for DG but to prevent loss of future clients.

Is there any way DG could be dictating some of this craziness? Can he direct his defense lawyers how to argue during his sentencing? I just don't understand how any capable defense lawyers would allow this $hit show to happen.
