Yes I get that it would be cool seeing your own town and the family connection. Do you or Mum know any of the people featured retired campus police etc
I kept thinking I would but no. The accents were a nice slice of home though. We used to go to field trips to Kendall Hall to see plays and I went to summer camp there. Trenton State College is The College of New Jersey now but I noticed they didn’t say that at any point. Probably a condition of being allowed to film on campus!

Something we have to keep in mind is that there are three timeline points to consider:
  1. where exactly was the piggy bank located, and how was it positioned, before the accident,
  2. where were the chair and phone located at the time of the accident, and
  3. where were the chair and phone located 44 hours later when Amanda's body was discovered?
We know where and how the piggy bank is positioned after the accident. We don't know what that looked like beforehand. Nothing can be concluded about how she hit the piggy bank based on how it was found afterward.

There was a dog of unknown age, and one or more cats, in the house. Did they knock over the chair? They must have been upset with the smell of blood. Did the animals move the phone across the floor from one position to another during those 44 hours?

Her pants were not pulled down to her knees. Per Netflix, the waist of her pants was down a few inches. Was she wearing jeans, or pyjamas?

Just saw the Netflix UM episode focusing on this AA case, "Body in the Basement". It sounds like I'm in the minority here, but I 100% believe that this was a tragic, horrific accident. And, I don't believe foul play/a stranger in the house were involved at all. Here is my take on this. Obviously, this is all IMHO only:

It was proven that the husband had nothing to do with this, given that he had an alibi - i.e., he was out of town @ the time AA died.

I believe that AA was either impaired/disoriented due to the migraine & the drugs she took (for the migraine) & that this led to her tripping/falling down the basement steps....or, it's also possible she tripped on her dog. Her severe injuries were probably caused by her falling down the steep flight of steps. I have known of at least one case where someone did die from falling down their steps (resulting in a head injury), so this is absolutely possible.

Her clothes being in disarray could have been something she did herself due to her disorientation. I.e., the clothes being this way doesn't mean that someone else did this to her.

IMHO the dog not going down the steps to check up on AA is inconsequential. I agree it may have been spooked/scared due to the noise(s) caused by the fall; the smell of blood, etc. - i.e., apparently dogs have a far better sense of smell than humans.

There is one strangeness here. If someone invades and interrupts the phone call, the instinct would be to scream. Even if someone grabs your phone, you scream. She was not hit on the head upstairs, and I doubt she was speaking in the basement as the signal would be poorer there, or so I think. Strange that it got disconnected quietly.
Her husband said he heard the dog yelp and a crunch sound.

Might be no time to scream when caught off guard and shocked.

Last night I saw "Medical Detectives" and the murder of Kristine Fitzhugh in May 2000. She was "found" at the end of the stairs to her basement, when her hubby came home. First I thought, Amanda's case was shown; even a laundry basket was in the play.

It was interesting to see the investigation unfolding, from a dramatically fall because of "wrong shoes" (husband said so and shoes were staged by him) to murder, which in a brutally way occurred already in the kitchen or near to the kitchen, not at all at the end of stairs.

This link contains a comment from the husband. It's interesting just how many times he shared the gofu.ndme. Didn't drum up much interest, funnily enough.
Husband's short text strongly reminds me of a video of the husband in the Suzanne Morphew case (WS thread!). Even justgiveme-account followed. MOO

Amanda's pants were "down around her knees." Bleeding out is associated with hypothermia. As she was dying, did she feel hot and want to remove her clothing?

"Hypothermia in trauma patients is a common condition. It is aggravated by traumatic hemorrhage, which leads to hypovolemic shock. This hypovolemic shock results in a lethal triad of hypothermia, coagulopathy, and acidosis, leading to ongoing bleeding."

SBM. I'm just catching up with this case and may be reading this incorrectly, so hopefully this question hasn't been asked and I am not being repetitive. Are you inferring that perhaps Amanda may have been trying to remove her clothing and subsequently became hypothermic? Or that she was removing her clothing because she was hot (which would be hyperthermic)? TIA. :)

The links I added connect blood loss with hypothermia. Her pants were pulled down somewhat, and I do wonder whether she tried to remove her clothes because the blood loss caused her to feel unwell. It's hard to say.

I am not ready to make conclusions about the husband, but if they are on the phone, then the dog yelps, then there is some strange sounds and then the call disconnects and the rest go to vm. Now, given that the wife is a severe migraineur, the response is strange. If he is away, why not call the police and ask for a welfare check?

Maybe he doesn't want to tell all the details. Amanda was looking for something to ease her pain. Maybe certain details are not to be known for the public. But the situation is not too straightforward. JMO.

He said that he did not think the worst when the phone was disconnected. He thought her phone battery needed to be recharged, and that she was spending time with siblings the following day. He returned to Calgary early, so he did change his schedule based on not being able to reach her.

He said that..... she was spending time with siblings the following day. He returned to Calgary early, so he did change his schedule based on not being able to reach her.
Well, he SAID she was spending time with siblings the following day, but that obviously wasn't true, as the siblings didn't come to her house and discover her dead, and nor did they report that she didn't show.

He was cleared himself, although I do wonder if he had someone arrange to kill her? Someone was seen running away from their property.....

Amanda's husband has been officially cleared by police. He had nothing to do with her death; neither directly nor indirectly. At this time, police have determined that her death was accidental, although they are interested in any information that may shed new light on her death.

I wish we had more than the husband's narrative (as mentioned upthread by someone) about everything. That's all we've heard and we don't even know if true (the dog yelp, her plans the next day).

Police have access to the text conversations and call logs so would cross reference to see if what's being told by husband, friends, family, associates, etc. align.

Curious if any discrepancies (we wouldn't hear about it as would be kept to police only).

To me, the scene alone says that this was some sort of weird accident and not murder.

You have a bloody mess in the basement, but no footprints from a killer, and no other trace of a third party whatsoever.

You'd expect a killer to make sure she was dead, and not give her the opportunity to apparently stand up at the bottom of the stairs.

You'd expect more severe internal injuries, and for that to be the cause of death as opposed to external blood loss.

I think she was maybe having balance issues, struck her face, tumbled to the bottom of the stairs, and as a result, wasn't thinking clearly (like climbing the stairs for help).

I remember the Peter Porco murder case, where after being attacked in bed with an axe, he woke up and went through his morning routine, making lunch, writing a check, and doing the dishes when he finally succumbed.

His injuries were much more severe, and included massive brain trauma, but it wouldn't surprise me if her blood loss caused her to act irrationally.

That case was wild! His head was split open and he had no conscious awareness, yet he did all those things.
