Too young for AG's case, but noting - young and close, fwiw.
Imo, when you spot one alleged creepy-crawly, there are plenty more nearby, speculation.

''York Regional Police have laid murder and sexual assault charges against a suspect in connection with the death of an elderly woman who was found dead following a fire in Georgina nearly a year ago.

Emergency crews responded to a fire at a home on Miami Drive around 5 a.m. on Jan. 15.

After the blaze was extinguished, the 85-year-old woman who owns the home was found dead inside, police said.''

''Bradley Strickler, 21, of the Town of Georgina, has now been charged with first-degree murder, sexual assault, and arson with disregard for human life.

Police told CP24.com that there is no known connection between the victim and the suspect.

Strickler is currently being held in custody and is set to make a court appearance in Newmarket on December 6.''

This is horrific. Crimes against the elderly really upset me. I hope this monster gets what he deserves.

I've been watching the 3-part Dr Phil shows about serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer (NOT the Netflix one). I was reminded that Dahmer, who mainly killed males, also killed one (at least) female in Germany. That caused me to think of the PERHAPS connection between Bruce McArthur and Sonia and Shelley.
Anything is possible.

"Young and close". This man is being held in Newmarket, 26 minutes away from where this murder took place. Sonia Varaschin had worked at the hospital in Newmarket. Sonia lived in an Orangeville townhouse complex where a bunch of "young and close" men who held rowdy parties also lived. You don't suppose that there is a circle of "young and close" men who circulate from town to town?

''Safarik says:

(The killer) has knowledge that an elderly female lives there by herself, said Mark Safarik, a retired FBI profiler with expertise in violent crime against the elderly.

Safarik said those who kill the elderly are not opportunistic offenders. They are not breaking into a place and stumbling upon the victim. He knows shes there, know shes by herself, and he goes there with intent to sexually assault and murder her. This is different than prior research suggesting women were opportunistic victims of non-violent offenders who become violent at the scene.

These are angry young men with pent-up rage toward women and likely live with a female authority figure, he said. They are socially incompetent men who perceive little control in their lives, are typically undereducated, have substance abuse problems and are unemployed or in a menial job.

For these guys, there is not a lot of planning, and they dont stay at the scene long. They leave evidence, dont clean up. They dont think that far ahead.

They use far more violence than necessary to kill. Overkill is indicative of their anger. This had been the case on Indian Trail.

They attack elderly women because they are easy targets a child does not present as ready a victim because he is seen as having guardianship, whereas an elderly woman on her own has none. These killers also tend to live relatively close to their victim.''

So, by CLOSE he means geographically rather than relationship wise.

Started thread..

FWIW, this could also apply to Shelley and Sonia cases.

I am hoping that with today's announcement in the Susan Tice and Erin Gilmour murders, answers are on the way in Audrey's case. Both these women were sexually assaulted and murdered in their homes in vicious stabbings. Their killer flew under the radar for 39 years. Erin Gilmour was killed days before Christmas. Audrey was murdered during the holiday season, too.

Toronto police are investigating possible links to other crimes. Fingers crossed not just for Audrey, but for so many other women attacked and murdered in their homes over the past four decades in Ontario, including Sonia Varaschin. This man might have committed many other crimes, emboldened by getting away with it. No longer!

^^^^^ My hopes are sky high for Audrey now. Thanks for posting because I missed the news conference. Let me summarize regarding likenesses to Audrey’s case:

- stabbings
- sexual assaults
- stayed out of LE sights for 39 years
- same times of the year

''Jon Wells Series: Audrey Gleave - Darkness on Indian Trail

Even in daylight the house seems hidden, set well back from the country road called Indian Trail, the property cloistered among tall trees and next to a small cemetery.
Her home sits on the outskirts of the hamlet of Lynden, between Ancaster and Brantford, the nearest gas station 15 kilometres away.

FWIW I watched Dr Phil yesterday about the Idaho student murders. Killing by knife takes energy. It’s personal. The killer will be covered in blood. I couldn’t help but think of Audrey and Sonia as well.
The killer in these circumstances will often show up at the funeral and be front and centre. A « look at me » persona at the funerals. It’s all about the killer, not the victim.
