It might have been discussed copiously (most things here are lol) I'm just catching up, but surely this is not a foul sewer with a drain cover like that? IMO it's a storm sewer to drain surface water from the street.

They are storm drains, not sanitary sewers, you are correct.

I can’t see him as a womaniser or even appealing to women. <modsnip>

I wasn’t really thinking he was a womanizer with my original comment. But there are men who have been removed from their positions recently for being inappropriate in word and/or touch in the past. Garrison Keillor comes to mind and Barry could have been caught up in something like that. He’s the same age and seems similarly awkward and potentially clueless. I’m not saying it happened, but I don’t think Barry would take kindly to those consequences. And I’m not defending Keillor or trying to start a debate on that subject.

I'm pretty sure getting a permit for anything in Toronto takes forever. I lived there for many years. Many layers of bureaucracy, especially somewhere like Forest Hill. Amazing they got the former house torn down that quickly. I know someone in Rosedale who built a fence. She had to have city inspectors she paid there all the time and the post holes had to be drilled with water pressure. UGH. It's so extreme to me.

I thought I read the Sherman children didn't live in Toronto. Except maybe the son. It's unlikely they lived were planning to live with their parents anyway in the bigger house not ever to be built now.

Do you know how to go online and access the building permit?

Does anyone know the address of the proposed building lot on Old Forest Hill Road, Toronto? Used to be a home of "Al Green" of Greenwin company fame.
About a year ago, on Nov. 30, 2016, Ms. Sherman became the registered owner of a house in Forest Hill that used to belong to the late Al Green, a philanthropist and founder of Greenrock Property Management Ltd.

"They wanted the house. Mrs. Sherman had approached me, expressing interest and we made an arrangement, it worked out very well … they were going to build a new home," Mr. Green's son Barry said in an interview on Wednesday.

Earlier this fall, the Shermans obtained building permits to demolish Mr. Green's house and construct a new two-storey detached dwelling with an integral garage.

They also listed their North York house for sale.

Demolition at the Forest Hill site began a few weeks ago but has been halted, leaving a barren site surrounded by a plywood-boarded fence in the posh neighbourhood.

Shoot, This is perfect. But I figured name would be a choice. Does anyone know the address? Former owner Al Green
Try 91 Old Forest Hill Rd - it came up when I did a Google search.

Go to City of Toronto, Building Permits and there are instructions on how to search. You may need to know the address, the neighbourhood is called Forest Hill.

Edit: I see you have a link just above.

It seems interesting when you look at:
1. Trudeau's push to legalize cannabis
2. Sherman's fundraising for Trudeau
3. Sherman's (unethical?) lobbying of the Liberals
3. Apotex's partnership to CannTrust (a federally regulated licensed producer of Medical Cannabis )
I haven't looked into it in any detail, but it seemed interesting and It sure would make for a lot of enemies MOO
At CannTrust™ we are committed to research and innovation, as well as contributing to the growing body of evidence-based research regarding the use and efficacy of cannabis. Our product development teams along with our exclusive Pharma partner Apotex are diligently innovating and developing products that will make it easier for patients to use Medical Cannabis today and in the future.

I’m trying to recall Barry Sherman’s good points. Maybe we aren’t meant to speak ill of the dead, but I think he comes across as a bully and totally arrogant.
He corrects peoples grammar, is rude to visitors in his home, sues anyone he feels like, whether he is right or wrong. I wonder how many people actually liked him. I can’t imagine women liking him or enjoying his company.

I’d love someone to list his good points, apart from his philanthropy.

Someone who is considered rude and arrogant by some, may simply be honest and to the point. Rather than sucking up to people, or pretending to be something they are not to get people to like them, or make fake small talk, or be loud and attention seek, they simply present themselves and their thoughts.

Sometimes, it's actually a demonstration of respect for your intellect by not treating you like you are dumb or can be fooled by fake social relations. Some people prefer communication without having to constantly validate or hold emotional hands. Some people are truly self confident, and don't require external validation. Therefore, they don't seek it.

There have been articles about him giving a helping hand to various family members. He seemed to be the type to help people help themselves. If they couldn't take that step, then that was on them.

It's also been written that he acted when he felt it was the "right thing" to do. For every nasty lawsuit, many Apotex Employees were able to feed their families and lead productive lives. When deciding what is the "right thing to do", not everyone considers the same criteria.

One of the things I’ve noticed rude and arrogant people say when they’re being rude and arrogant? “I’m just being honest!!”

I tried and you have to have the permit number. Seriously. In this case I'm SURE corners were cut as the Shermans had friends in high places. The Mayor, the Premier, the PM. All those "charitable" donations and fundraising dinners paid off. Demolishing a house in perfect condition is frowned on and would take years for an average person with no connections to get permission.ALSO slightly off topic but there is no way to access home value. No Zillow, no Realtor.com. Everything is a secret and controlled by vested interests. You can't find out how much your neighbor is paying in property taxes or how much your house is really worth. Peace order and way too much government

Take the Best and Leave the Rest❤️😎❤️

Personally, I prefer to be fully informed and challenged, rather than pick and choose posts that only make me feel warm and comfy.

Sometimes, "condescending" is the reader's sensitivity, rather than the writer's intention.

I'm not sure why anyone would want to block what could be pertinent information.

***ETA: Specifically see page 112 of the pdf - that's the info regarding this property. It appears it was all signed but I kinda stink at interpreting some info

Actually when googling the address I saw two more permits for demolition. One to extend the yard of the adjacent property and one to demolish and buld a different house.

I also saw the taxes that were paid. And obviously I am not a good googler because I never found any of the info others are posting.

I think the info is there if one knows how to look. Unlike me

No way. If there were something like that, do you really think that many of his obviously grieving female employees would have attended the service? If you lived in Toronto and knew the Shermans' reputation, you wouldn't even imagine this could be a reason. (And yes, there is a #Metoo movement in Canada. See recent news about Charles Dutoit the conductor.)

Some sort of SA claim, whether legitimate or fraudulent, is one of many plausible scenarios.

Not every female employee knows every time another female employee is harassed, particularly if it's a large company, or the victim and victimizer work closely, for long hours together.

Perhaps if you polled how many female employees didn't show up at the service, it might be considered and indicator of something if the numbers were up over half. Because females were there isn't really an indication of anything.

As for the Shermans' reputation, as with most reputations, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and bias is king.
