"Ontario Provincial Police are asking for the public's help to identify the body of a man investigators believe had travelled throughout Canada, the U.S., and possibly Costa Rica.

The body was found on Sept. 5, 2001, at a rest area of a remote cross-country ski trail near Deep River, Ont., west of Ottawa, OPP said in a media release issued Friday.

The cause of his death isn't suspicious and foul play isn't suspected, OPP said.

Investigators have not been able to identify him."

"The male wore eye glasses that are for near-sighted individuals. Information obtained through the investigation leads investigators to believe that the deceased traveled throughout Canada, specifically western Canada, the United States and possibly Costa Rica.

Post mortem results indicate that his cause of death is not suspicious, foul play is not suspected.

The Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of Detective Inspector Rob Hagerman, CIB, is continuing the investigation.

I don't think there was foul play involved with his death, but that doesn't mean that there wasn't foul play involved in some way in his life. Why was he dressed the way he was in the forest, with no hiking supplies? This simply doesn't make sense.

Someone knows the answer.

This case has haunted me for years and I just re-read the thread and was thinking of the fact that he was circumcised, in Europe circumcision is only done for medical problems. But in the States circumsion is fairly common, how is it in Canada?
I dont think he is European, but perhaps an american whom has lived in Europe and travelled alot. Therefore he is not missed, since he lived a life where he really did not have rooted....

The police don't suspect foul play, but the circumstances surrounding the case are weird. There is so much identifying information, and this man must have had some form of transportation into that remote area, unless he walked for days on end.

Back then (men of his age) I think circumcision was fairly common, and was likely the norm.

Not in Europe, circumcision has never been done on males unless they are jewish or muslim.
I am inclined to think he is american, perhaps living abroad for a large part of his life, but probably born in the States.
Is/was circumcision as prevalent in Canada as in the States?

Having seen the ring at one of the earlier links, the stone is not an aquamarine but an opal, possibly the sort generally known as a fire opal.

That may not help at all but I thought it worth pointing out for reasons of accuracy.

IMO, it still looks more like aquamarine than an opal. Hopefully LE had a gemologist determine what it is.
