While looking at Raymond Carey and Corey White, I noticed something about our UID that probably doesn't have much significance, but I hadn't noticed it before: he parts his hair on the left. Nothing terribly unusual about that, but Carey and White and most of the other possibles with similar hairstyles brush their hair forward from the back, without a part. This is not something a guy usually changes.

Also, those coated lenses? Very popular with people who work in the computer industry. It cuts down screen glare when you're working under fluorescent lights.

One person mentioned way back in this thread who went missing worked in computer security, I believe. I wonder if his company ever sent him to do contract work at military bases in Canada, such as Petawawa.

A former defence contractor, Jerald Gelb went missing in the weeks before 9/11. I looked up defence contractors in MA. These two came up first:

Here's a longer list:

BTW, Those lens coatings are popular with people who work on computers, which is just about everyone these days!

Gelb was my leading candidate, but looking at the hair, now I'm not so sure. Gelb has thick curly hair; I don't think you could get it to come out like that short sparse cut the dead man wears.

No, probably not. Those hair straightening products in the news lately probably can't do that.

The question of a defence contractor is one that begs an answer.

I can't tell from the post-mortem photos where this UID parted his hair. It just looks mussed to me, with no obvious part.

Hm, okay, I thought it was obvious. Maybe it's not as obvious as I thought.

Here is someone who does not match the height, but has some similarity in other details.

http://www.nampn.org/cases/carey_raymond.html
ITA dotr, good find and IMO, this guy Raymond Carey could be a match.
He was a bar manager or bartender in that strip club in Montreal. If that is him, then someone drove his car back to Montreal, could explain why no car was found in Deep River.
The weight loss could be explained by those dieting and caffeine pills.
Also he went missing Jan. 10th and was found 7 months later on Sept. 05, 2001.
HEIGHT differs by 5 inches :(

Hazel,

Good eye, and I think your definitly correct there with the fellows identity. look at the shape of his forhead down his nose. Now if you take the photo of the missing fellow in white and tilt yourself as if you were looking at the same angle I belive its a hit. The nose is straight on both parties, as well the face shape is correct, as is the glasses. Have you forwarded this to the LE?

Hopefully we can give him a name, not just John Doe.

It sure looks like the same guy to me. The height discrepancy could easily be the result of an error on one side or the other.

Their chins are identical. Their right ears are shaped very similarly, and any differences that I see could be attributed to camera angle differences.

And I don't think that the UID had jowels like that when he was alive.

I wish Raymond's photo was a little clearer. I see a mole just above the UID's left eyebrow, at the vertical plane of the iris of his eye, and Raymond might have a similar mole in the same location. His photo is not focused enough to be sure though.

I don't think the glasses in the two photos are the same pair. The bridges don't look quite the same, although they are certainly the same style.

I too think it is a match! The eyebrows are the same shape, the protruding upper jaw lines match, the noses are the same, 2 deep wrinkles in the forehead, and the glasses are the same shape and colour, as well as the hair is the same style, colour and texture. The height difference is a little off, but not by much, and the timing is also good.
Definitely send this one in!!!!Fingers crossed for a match!!!!

Yeah, this looks like the guy. Wow.

I agree, not the same pair of glasses. The UID's are more rounded and I think they're gold while Carey's look silver. But that's hardly significant. Clearly they favored the same style.

I noticed that the UID's face gets a little narrower just above the cheekbones, then widens again at the eyes. Carey's does the same thing. Also the very very similar ear.

Ding, ding, ding! Dotr, it's a match! Thanks to Hazel, too, for the different perspectives.

Um, how about that bar where he worked?

According to a Montreal tourist website, that club specializes in "full contact lap dances." Cheap. Though not a cheap club, apparently.

The only thing I really don't like about Raymond Carey as a match is the 7-month time lag between January and September. That would also be a lot of weight to lose in the interim, but not impossible. The height difference is weird, too, considering that the UID must have been found just hours after his death. The slight difference in jowls and face shape could be explained by the weight loss.

So what might have happened? He disappears from the club, someone drives him to the Laurentian Hills area or at least drives his vehicle back to Montreal. And then what? I doubt he lived outside in a tent for 7 months. So why didn't he leave an empty apartment/room behind (for a landlord to complain about) or if he was staying with someone else, why weren't they looking for him?

Maybe he found another job in Renfrew County, one that provided accommodations, perhaps. If he was on the run from something or someone, he might have sought employment in the underground economy. The area where he was found has had a major drug bust in recent years. There is also a former associate of one of those organizations mentioned in the link above living in the area. So, remote as the area seems, it is not immune to the influences of the outside world. It's on the Trans-Canada Highway, after all.

"BS" could have staged his own disappearance, as it appears he was travelling a lot prior to his death. RC's car had been abandoned in Montreal. Here's the location on Google Maps:

http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&q=...&panoid=jmIkQDFTrliYezKVm4IaGg&cbp=12,45,,0,5

What do you know: there's a Pepe Jeans Boutique on Peel: http://www.411.ca/business/Quebec/Montreal/Boutique-Pepe-Jeans-Inc/6455972.html

And how about this optical shop, just down the street from where he worked on Ste-Catherine: http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&ie...d=mppxQ6cRSWgbAvxPmVxG3A&cbp=12,72.25,,0,5.65

A shoe store in the area of Ste-Catherine, with an online division and Replay brand: http://www.tonyshoes.com/store_hours.php?osCsid=0355ab3e53e361796c321ab33a0eb120

Strangely enough, that Temptation club and Chateau du sexe are at the same address: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sour...id=cvtfW3NXVI8pp4Bhtb3FkA&cbp=12,135,,0,-17.5

"BS" could have lost a lot of weight quickly, with those diet and caffeine pills. Maybe it was more important to alter his appearance quickly than to follow the instructions on the pill bottles.

As for the height difference, I think it's important to learn who gave that information. Some men don't tell the truth about their height.

If they got it off his driver's license, height and weight could be way off.

The seven-month gap doesn't bother me. Carey seems to have left Montreal just ahead of those big spring 2001 drug busts, which might well mean he was lying low for a while. And if he was lying low at a gang member's place, or something like that, the owner might well have been afraid to go to the police when he turned up missing.

For that matter, if they were walking together, that would give the other guy motivation to just leave and take the car and the UID's wallet.

Actually it is 8-months gap between January and September (made a mistake in my previous post). Hopefully it's a match.

I e-mailed the OPP Missing Persons Unidentified Remains Unit and they answered back:
Thank you for your email.

This information will be passed on to the investigating officers.

Once again, thank you for your time and your interest in this case.

True, only if they provides the smiling photo of RC. Then, we'll know whether it's match teeth between living RC & UID BS. From Hazel's 6th photo, I see 3 moles on left side of his face unlike from what Carl saw.

I never seen anybody shrinking 5 inches so quickly in 8 months at young age. It only applies to old age people as they lose their original height & weight as the age progressed. It's hard to tell if it's same person that most of you agreed with.

I hope that DNA is the only way to answer it. It could be Raymond Carey.
