The following from the above link.

“I’d rather be here saying we made progress but we’re in the same place we were last year,” Sgt. Dean Jantzen said. “Everything that happened generated some activity, which was the desired effect. Unfortunately, no new tips or theories were put forward to investigators.”

Perhaps they should read this thread?

Delta police spokesperson Sgt. Sharlene Brooks said police believe the suspect did not know Szendrei and it appears attack was a crime of opportunity.

"Its very difficult to answer if it was random or targeted. There are two avenues in which someone could be targeted. Either specifically as a person or because an opportunity presented itself. And we believe an opportunity presented itself," said Brooks.

After three years of an investigation that's a head-scratcher to many, the focus in the Lindsay Buziak murder case is now turned to the role of the police.

The Vancouver Sun newspaper has launched a series that is raising questions about Saanich police past and present. SPD Det. Sgt. Craig Sampson, and two ex-SPD officers, Don Wiebe and Bob Wall, are part of a private company, ITV Consulting, that is examined in these articles:

Online there's more focus, too, on the investigation and investigators:

The two facebook links are to discussion that's maintained by Jeff Buziak, Lindsay's father, and a group of websleuths. They talk about Cohen Oatman, the friend of Jason Zailo, who phoned in the 911 report to police, as well as a lot of details that are missing from the Dateline show and newspaper reports elsewhere online.

p.s. I see that the facebook discussions have been noted at an earlier time. Thankfully the fighting is over there now, after a government employee, or it may be a couple of government employees, were outed by Jeff Buziak.

That stopped a lot of the nasty posting by pseudonyms. You can now follow the facebook discussion threads without all that frustration as they stick to talking about issues related to Lindsay's murder and the investigation.

Jeff Buziak, Father of Lindsay Buziak, has posted this Open Letter on his facebook forum:

Hello everyone,

Again, thank you for all the support Lindsay receives from you wonderful people trying your hardest to assist in solving her murder. I try to stay as current as I can with everything that goes on concerning Lindsay's murder, from recognized facebook sites to media, emails, messages, phone calls and meetings. Sometimes it is overwhelming, but I must endure for Lindsay, for her friends, for Lindsay's family, and for you, the most loyal, dedicated supporters one could ever wish for.

The latest topic of discussion seems to be focused directly on the Saanich Police, and I see this serious topic has garnered some new posters resulting in an increased depth of discussion, information, insight, knowledge and intelligence to back their opinions. This can only help to move things forward to where this case should be in terms of resolution and jurisdiction. Well here are my $0.02 worth:

As most of you know, my relationship with the Saanich Police has had its ups and downs since the first year passed with no resolution. I have not been alone in this feeling; in fact, I have listened and endured to make sure I am not the only one continually feeling disgruntled with the handling of Lindsay's murder investigation by the Saanich police.

I threw my full support behind them. However, my experience and interaction with the Saanich Police has always wavered from poor to okay in terms of interaction, communication, investigative results, and information. It has never been okay to very good. Don't get me wrong here, communication is poor, but at times they do communicate with me. Usually, I have to holler at them to "just talk to me", so they do.

Does that sound right to you?

I receive virtually no information from the Saanich Police, and I have come to realize that I never will. I have adjusted to this by only forwarding information to them, and now I rarely ask any questions at all. The fastest route to insanity for me is to ask the Saanich Police any questions about details or facts concerning Lindsay's murder because they WILL NOT answer them. Am I happy? NO. I have adapted to the Saanich Police and learned to live with them as they keep informing me that we don't have any options as they ARE NOT turning the case over to any other jurisdiction.

How do you feel about that friends?

Let's address investigative results. Well, I probably don't have to as they speak for themselves. NOTHING! Am I happy about that? Of course not. The situation makes me sad, mad, depressed, disappointed and more than anything, furious. I lost my daughter, and that in itself is overwhelming.

As one poster just mentioned, over 3 years and not 1 suspect. Unreal no?

I feel, and have felt since early on in this investigation, that something was amiss. Poor to no communication with the Saanich Police, poor transparency, poor response to peoples' calls to them, no information at press conferences and always excuses, fear mongering, and preparing the public for the worst.

Can you imagine being told your life was in danger by the police and that they could not protect you, yet they don't have a suspect? Think about that. Please. What the hell are they doing? No suspects, poor communication, no information being released, and no arrests.

What do we have at this point with Saanich Police? A pathetic sketch, a poor description of two people, plenty of excuses, and continued pleading to the public to help them. Added to this mess, Saanich Police’s track record of the previously posted unsolved murders, their refusal to unite policing in the Capital Region, their refusal to join VIIMCU, and their refusal to hand Lindsay's case over to another police agency.

Where are we for God's sake? Nowhere!

Am I happy? I certainly am not as my precious daughter was viciously slaughtered, executed in her home town under the noses of a police force who continue to boast about how proficient they are, yet produce nothing.

Is it time for Saanich Police to turn this case over to another police agency and plead to them for assistance instead of to us? My answer must be obvious.

Please tell me what you think. Tell the Solicitor General of B.C. what you think. Tell the mayor of Saanich how you feel.

I remain determined.

Jeff Buziak

One of the things that has always baffled me about this case is why the police waited so long to release the description of the couple and the sketch of the woman. It was stated that they wanted to wait until the one year anniversary of her death for maximum exposure. Maybe I'm thinking too hard on this, but it just always struck me as odd that they "sat" on this info for several months.

CarolAnn, I have to agree, you're thinking reasonably on that! There is no good reason for police to have with-held a sketch or description of any suspects in the case as they did.

There are too many elements like that which point to problems with the investigation. Why did the Saanich police stop the family from putting up a reward for two years!? The police explanation was that they have enough information on the murder and didn't want to be "overwhelmed".

Yes, this is the SPD police force investigating Lindsay Buziak's murder.

Here's another article in the Vancouver Sun series, published today, that highlights some of the problems associated with the SPD (and, in hiring context, BC Corrections). Lead investigator in the Buziak case is Det. Sgt. Craig Sampson:

http://www.vancouversun.com/Saanich+police+stop+using+controversial+detector+d evice/4566060/story.html

Saanich police to stop using controversial lie detector device

UVic security also reconsidering its use of ‘voice stress analyzer’ to screen prospective employees, but B.C. Corrections stays course

"CVSA tests are offered in B.C. by ITV Consulting Inc., a Victoria firm run by two former Saanich police detectives, Don Wiebe and Bob Wall.

ITV also contracts Craig Sampson, current head of Saanich’s major crimes section, to conduct tests on an as-needed basis.

ITV states on its website that clinical studies show the device is 98-per-cent accurate 'with no inconclusives.'

However, when I asked Wiebe to show me these studies, he said he has never seen any.

He said he is simply taking the word of the U.S. company that developed the CVSA device and licenses the marketing rights to ITV.

That company is called the National Institute of Truth Verification. It is based in West Palm Beach in Florida and was founded by “Dr.” Charles Humble, who obtained his doctorate from a diploma mill in Indiana after six hours of bible study."

Thank you, cometso, for that article.

This really raises the "hinky meter" for me, in that the Saanich Police would rely on this method of testing. That's just ludicrous.

I've followed this case since I saw it on Dateline as well as kept up with the father's FB pages and I just have so many questions.

I don't understand the phone call that SB (boyfriend's mother) made to Lindsay's friend,NB, using a fake accent telling her not to talk. This really raises my "hinky meter" and I believe she made a second call to another friend that could not be confirmed?? Quite odd, imo.

I wish I had some news to report, but I'm just trying to bump this up. Glad to see some of you have been keeping up with the Facebook discussions. I attended Lindsay's walk on February 2, it was a nice, but solemn event.

I was thinking that anyone who could be so cruel and violent, probably did this sort of thing before and likely to do it again. They may have gotten away with it for now-but sooner or later they will slip up.I hope they are caught very soon and that this young lady's family get the answers that they need and deserve.

So many stab wounds, so little evidence left behind - it seems like the killers knew what they were doing and have done it before, and likely will again....

We need answers & justice!

Bumping for Lindsay and hoping that her devoted family get the answers they need to help solve this horrific crime.

Bumping up. May there be justice for Lindsay and her family.

Bumping for Lindsay , her family and friends and hoping that answers will be found soon and her family can finally get some measure of peace.

VICTORIA -- One brutal murder, four years, thousands of tips, no suspects and dozens of shattered loved ones waiting for answers and arrests.

The killing of 24-year-old real estate agent Lindsay Buziak on Feb. 2, 2008, remains unsolved and on the eve of the four-year anniversary of her death, her father says that fact becomes no less frustrating as the years drag on.

Jeff Buziak is organizing a memorial walk on Thursday to remind people of the unsolved killing in an upscale Saanich home, the second year he's done that. He hopes he won't have to do it again next year, that by then, those responsible will be in police custody

From an older link..
"Saanich police spokesman Sgt. John Price released a sketch yesterday, a year and a day after Buziak's death, of a Caucasian woman, 35 to 45 years old, with short blond hair. Police said the male suspect is believed to be Caucasian, six feet tall with dark hair.

Both were described as well-dressed, the man wearing a light- to medium-coloured jacket, and the woman possibly wearing a black designer skirt or dress patterned with thick white and red swirls"

"Buziak is hoping the fourth anniversary of Lindsay's death will bring forth new details in the case. "It can be totally anonymous. Please get ahold of myself or Saanich Police. No little bit of information is not serious enough, we welcome everything somebody has to say about it. Hopefully there's somebody out there who can push us just a little further down the road."

Tomorrow's trek is a long one, touring much of the Municipality of Saanich. At 10 a.m. walk participants will leave the Royal Oak Burial Park, pass through Mount Douglas Park and past the murder site, to later end up at Saanich Municipal Hall.

Thursday night a fundraiser and silent auction with a $15 entry fee will be held at 6 p.m. at Glo Restaurant and Lounge on Jutland Road in Victoria. Attendees are asked to "Dress for Lindsay."

Four years on, the brutal murder of real estate agent Lindsay Buziak still brings the same emotions to the surface - among them anger and frustration.

Anger because the killing seems so senseless. She was a 24-year-old just doing her job, showing a house to two people who had told her they wanted to see it. After luring her to the house, they attacked her in an upstairs bedroom. A promising young life was ended by multiple stab wounds.

Frustration because after four years, we still don't know why Buziak died. Why did she become the victim of what appears to have been a targeted hit? Who did this to her?
