Not really sure why the case keeps getting put over to a later date. The defense lawyers may still be reviewing the evidence and trying to decide on the pleas to be put forward could be one reason.

The defense lawyers may also have other case loads and conflicts with the timing as well.

Really I am only guessing here.

Defense lawyers always delay as long as possible. It's to the advantage of the accused. People's memories of the event start to fade, some witnesses die ... maybe the Lord will return. :/

BL's lawyer has his own case to think of too. I wonder if the family hired him as a stalling tactic as if he is found guilty and sentenced to jail time then obviously BL would need a new lawyer and so be able to stall again.
" A Halifax criminal lawyer’s trial on sex-related charges has been adjourned until May to give his new counsel time to prepare a defence.
Lyle Howe, 28, was scheduled to go on trial Tuesday in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Halifax on charges of sexual assault and administering a stupefying drug.
The trial is now set for 14 days beginning May 5 and will be before a judge and jury, as originally elected."

I am sure that the Loretta Saunders - Case Discussion group is a mix of fact and hearsay, but I wonder if anyone has had the opportunity to look at what's going on in it--I requested to join but it seems that I have blocked from the group . . .

https://www.facebook.com/groups/426850997447231/

I am a member of that group, I haven't been in it to look in awhile.I just took a look, I don't see anything current that is strange. I know that i afew weeks ago, there was a mother who's daughter was murdered in the group, and they were all having a facebook argument, vouching for each other and only try to help, etc etc etc

Was there something specific to the case that you wanted to flag?

Thanks for the reply LoyalSleuth,

This is the first case that I've followed, and so I have been (perhaps necessarily) following it quite closely. I thought that some new discussion may arisen in the group due to recent activity in the case. I was simply looking to glean insights from all possible sources, and am confused about being blocked from the group, although it may be for the better factually :p.

I noticed today that BL's lawyer- LH , is also representing one of the two from Preston recently charged with human trafficking.

Yes he was suspended from practising today. So that will effect Loretta's case as he represents the male - BL.
It made me wonder why they went with him as their lawyer in the first place knowing he had this to deal with and that if found guilty it would cause an issue. Unless that is what you wanted to begin with.

Leggette’s other lawyer, Terry Sheppard, says Howe’s suspension won’t have an impact on the case.

“It’s not going to have any effect on it,” says Sheppard. “I’ve been on board in this case for a bit of time now and I’ve got all the disclosure. I’ve gone over it, I’ve met with the client. The client is comfortable with me proceeding as his counsel”...

The Crown and defence are now waiting for the autopsy report. Sheppard says, if the report is received in a timely manner, it shouldn’t hold up proceedings.

A preliminary inquiry in a high-profile Halifax murder case will start July 21 as scheduled...

When the case was last in court June 9, the judge was told that the only potential holdup was the autopsy report from New Brunswick, where Saunders’s body was found along a highway.

But Crown attorney Christine Driscoll confirmed Wednesday that the report is in and has been disclosed to the defence lawyers.

It’s been a hard road for Loretta Saunders’ family and it will only get harder when the preliminary inquiry for the two people charged with her murder takes place in Halifax July 21-24.

“My wife (Miriam, Loretta’s mother) has to testify, as well as my son and daughter, at the preliminary hearing,” Clayton Saunders, Loretta’s soft-spoken father, said in an interview this week.

“This will be the first time we will see (the accused). It’s going to be very stressful …”

The sister of murder victim Loretta Saunders is looking for funds to travel to next week’s preliminary hearing in Halifax. Loretta’s older sister, Audrey Saunders, wants to go to the July 21 hearing with her daughter, Mariah, but can’t afford transportation from St. John’s.

“I really want to go. I feel like I need to do this,” said Audrey. “There’s a lot of reasons why I want to go and face these people. I think it will help me just to know what happened to her — closure I guess...

“When I turned 13 and I was old enough to babysit her, she was three. I took her everywhere with me. She was like my own,” said Audrey. “I feel like my sister would want me to be there. I don’t know how she died. There’s just a lot of things I don’t want to be told over the phone. I’d love to be with my family.”

A publication ban has been ordered on evidence presented at the preliminary hearing in Halifax for two people charged in the death of Loretta Saunders.

The preliminary inquiry got underway today for 26-year-old Blake Leggette and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Victoria Henneberry, who were charged with first-degree murder two weeks after Saunders disappeared from her Halifax apartment in February.
