Interesting. Shotgun or air rifle death during the commission of murder - is that premeditated murder or escalating emotions?
Basically it depends on the level of premeditation, you can still get a 2nd degree murder charge with a weapon, even if you walked away to grab it. You would get slapped with 2nd degree murder, unsafe weapon storage, transporting a weapon with criminal intent, illegal weapon posession, use of a firearm causing death, etc.

Sure. First they were accused of being men who thought they were women, then they were gay, now they're neo-nazis. It's all ridiculous. They are teens who became unable to separate digital shooter game mentality from reality. They went on a road trip, lied to everyone about what they were doing, and started a shooting rampage across the second largest country in the world. They are thrill kill teens who made a huge mess of their lives.
Dead straight Otto! Thank you.

I disagree. I think that money and possessions was a motive throughout. First, they chose the easy targets of hippies stranded on the side of the road. The victims' ID was missing, and we know that the couple had a credit card.I have no doubt that they said take the card, here's the PIN.

We heard about a grey car at the scene, and a grey and red truck during RCMP press release. They switched cars by murdering a man 50km South of Dease Lake and burning their red/grey camper truck. He was most likely identified because his car was found burning in Manitoba and the teens truck was found burning where he was found dead.

They probably stole money, then money and a vehicle ...

But as has been pointed out by others, why rob and murder a travelling young couple in a 33 year old van when you could rob an older person in a $150,000 RV?

And why kill LD who was likely travelling locally in an older vehicle? Likely wouldn't have had any significant amount of cash or savings on him and his vehicle was worth nothing to them really. (I mean absolutely no disrespect by that).

The profile of the victims just does not align with a "for profit" murder.

I completely agree. With the exception of a sexual aspect.

These two, BS for sure, seem(s) to have the hallmarks of many incel killers we've seen before. And with that hurt and hate comes an extremely deeply seated resentment of women which would and often does provide greater satisfaction in maximizing the suffering of targeted women than it does in the sexual satisfaction of assaulting them.

I'm short, incel types seem to derive more pleasure in ending a woman's life with suffering than they do in degrading her with sexual acts. They see a woman's sexuality and lust as below themselves.

And what better way to scratch their fevered egos than to end it with a shootout wherein they're killed and live forever as heroes in their own minds and those who share a similar illness.

Incel = involuntary celibate. Alek Minnassian was one. His problem was that he wasn't getting any. These two haven't been linked to that movement in any way. I don't see the connection at all.

I believe that these two were driven by the urge to kill.

It's actually 500km between the two murder sites.

Matt Logan, the forensic psychologist interviewed on CBC-TV today, said this was thrill killing, in his opinion. He said Bryer's father had good insights into his son. He touched on psychopathy. He also said that thrill killers are driven by an urge to kill someone. And he said that these people have a feeling of powerlessness at an early age and want revenge.

I wish CBC would post the interview on their website.

Thrill kill. There's no other way to explain the decision to finance their trip across Canada with murder and theft.

Father said this ?? "Powerlessness at an early age and wanting revenge"?
Revenge against whom?

It is reasonable to assume that murder was the motivator, the side benefits of murder being a bit of larceny, robbery, perhaps some sexual aspect, re Miss Deese, voyeur-related, ( the incel aspect perhaps a profound part of that ) firesetting, ( this is very much a part of the trademark of serial killings, and it wont be a surprise if it comes to light they both were bedwetters up till an advanced age, 10 - 12 , another signifier ) .

The yarn about work was nifty, who can object to two young men going off to find work? . One can hardly say one is off to kill folks.

Is their own death part of the plan? I don't think they have saved the last two bullets for each other. I believe as long as the maximum amount of carnage , damage, wreck , ruin , destruction , death and despair can be activated, that's the plan.

I agree, the yarn about the work was nifty. I’m picturing the two....irresponsible, unmotivated teens announcing one day to their families they had come across a really lucrative job opportunity up north. All they needed was money and transportation to get them there. Everyone was elated, thinking this was a good thing. :(

I think they are motivated by the thrill of it. They aren't stealing for transportation to get somewhere specific - and they had a vehicle already. They aren't stealing to acquire possessions - they burned the vehicle they stole. They burned their computer. They are purchasing gas $20 at a time, which is a clue they didn't steal much money. They stopped at a place for free coffee.

Yes, they are robbing, but the motivation, imo, is a sick fantasy road trip.

They left their hometown to wreck havoc, imo.

jmo

So maybe the only objective was to shoot and catch people off guard, nothing about needing money to travel or a better vehicle, - did the Rav4 have GPS? Guessing the camper truck did not.

I think they will not give up without a fight, hopefully they are not in Ontario and heading to the Maritime Provinces.

My guess would be second degree because they. ran him down as he was trying to stop them from taking his vehicle? I feel if he was shot like the first victims it would be first degree. Again I am only guessing as I do not know the cause of death.

I'm not sure about BC but there may be an opportunity to upgrade the charges once individuals are apprehended. Perhaps authorities will release arrest warrants and we will learn more about the charges at that time. MOO

My husband, who has worked up north before, said if they don't have some super strong bug spray or protection, they will be in trouble for sure.

That's a fact. I'm in N. Ontario and went for a hike today that extended into sundown. I ran practically the last half hour to get out of the bush and away from the insects. They were beginning to buzz with what sounded like a train coming in. I can't imagine that the fugitives could survive for one hour in the bush.

On the other hand, if police are able to keep the suspects in the bush, there might not any rush... ;)

The interviewer talked about the father's most recent statement. The psychologist said the father has good insights into his son.

The psychologist said thrill killers feel a sense of powerlessness at an early age and want revenge. They are angry.

And we didn’t hear about a red and grey camper associated to the murder of the couple. During the press release LE was seeking a bearded man driving an older model Jeep Cherokee with a black stripe on the hood.

Whether the grey car mentioned by the female road worker in the media was actually a grey SUV remains unknown. Or maybe she later changed her statement. But a RAV4 is generally not mistaken for a car.
