Just throwing this out there as an FYI to the non Canucks, but next weekend is a long weekend in Canada, with tens of thousands hitting the highways, going to cottages, camping, etc.

If these two manage to still be out there by then and did get out of northern Manitoba, things can get complicated for LE.

They have been charged with second degree murder of LD. Isn’t that usually a death that’s a result of spur of the moment? They also haven’t released how LD died. There’s rumours it was not a result of being shot.

It is sometimes the case to lay lower charges and raise them later.

Early on, I heard that he was possibly run down by a car, but after that, MSM dropped the story. I think when his body was found, whoever reported it may have thought so. Anyway, I don't think we know how he died. If he wasn't shot, then there can be no ballistics linking the two crime scenes, the linkage lies elsewhere.

my personal feeling is that they never left BC and whatever happened to their truck was caused by other parties. I know my theory isn't exactly inline with what most are saying, but that's just my sense of how the timelines and evidence stacks up (or doesn't).
While not impossible, I find it highly improbable that a couple teenage guys who were spotted leaving Dease Lake Super A in the afternoon would’ve fallen victim to foul play less than one hour south of there. Unless the truck broke down (I doubt it), they wouldn’t have much reason to stop at that point.

There’s also surveillance video released of them in other provinces, so I think we’re beyond questioning whether they left BC.

Just googled that. Thanks for the info. They certainly don't look like they're trying to conceal themselves. I looked at google maps view of the Co-op Hardware store, I don't see any ground level cameras at the entrance. Am I to understand they were under surveillance then?

I would think it would be very hard to see Cameras on google maps. It looks to me like they have a camera set up inside the door to record people entering / leaving which would be a pretty standard set up. Usually the cameras are up higher but maybe its a space issue

you know the message from the person going to the funeral today for Chynna it made me think, we sometimes forget family members are lurking here or are members
if iv said anything offensive to you over the last many threads i am sorry, its easy to forget and get caught up in trying to break down facts within the case that real people in the real world are affected by this

BBM - I would like to believe this, but I'm not sure. Not everyone watches the news, not everyone has FB, not everyone comes to WS's lol

I have noticed on my own FB there were a lot of shares the first day or 2, but that has slowed down as well. Then the media doesn't help when they release a video yesterday and all the headlines don't make it clear that the video from Meadow Lake wasn't from yesterday, it was from the 21st. Talking to my sister in law last night from Alberta, she thought it was recent too, I had to correct her.

I don't know about anyone else, but when I go away to the lake or on vacation, I feel disconnected from the outside world, I don't watch the news, I'm not on my phone 24/7 (sometimes because the signal isn't great lol). I am in Canada, and I rarely watch local news, we no longer have a local paper here. I am a bit concerned that some people are not aware to be on the lookout, and honestly, these 2 look like average kids.
Yes my husband sent it to me thinking the same thing. They really should have made it more clear it was old footage.

There's free wifi all over the place in BC. Here's an interactive map from just 1 provider, Telus. In addition, many businesses and municipalities provide free wifi.

TELUS Wi-Fi Finder App

Also, I just randomly chose one campsite, and sure enough, "Free Wi-Fi" is listed. It's fairly common because it's something customers look for.

RV & Camping « Moosehaven Resort, Hathaway Lake, 100 Mile House, Cariboo, British Columbia, Canada

Obviously they were not expecting to be gaming the whole time, but they certainly could have got some gaming in from time to time. And maybe it wasn't about gaming. Maybe they just wanted to go online.

People I know with RVs take a laptop with them when travelling. If you don't own a laptop, then I guess you have to take your rig if you want some computer time.

Did you actually look at the map beyond Vancouver? There's no more "free Telus Wifi" than there would be McDonald's WiFi. I live in this area and travel North pretty often. There is no public WiFi outside the odd town/city and even more rare once you get into the more Northern regions.

It's common to charge people with second degree murder and upgrade it to first degree once a degree of planning is proven. Laying the charge allows LE to issue a Canada-wide warrant, and it is easier to get grounds for that if a second-degree charge is issued. The burden of proof for a first degree is higher.

If he was run down, they can also match the tire marks with the murder vehicle, whether it was a Rav4, the pickup truck, or something else. I've seen photos of the crime scene, there are deep tire tracks in the mud near the body.

Exactly. I've never been a ready adrenalin producer, myself, and I have never become "addicted" to adrenalin, but it's really common. Many people manage it well (in fact, many professions depend on managing it well). But the crash is real. The Great Plan that was formed when high on adrenalin now comes crashing down and seems impossible.

That's why I think their cognitive skills (map reading, route finding, wifi finding, planning next crime) are probably very lacking right now. They need to take turns pumping each other up, and they need to do things (and perhaps they are) that produce that adrenalin. Like breaking into cabins or a huge long list of other things. The car-burning probably has many "reasons" behind it, but one would be to get the big rush. It would be interesting to know from family members what their overall activity and sleep patterns were like, before they left.
I'd also like to know if either were ever prescribed ritalin or Adderal considering their
poor performance in school.
I know a middle class family near me that their
son's HS has many, many students prescribed
these drugs- for poor performance in school.
And the kids WANT the drugs, supposedly to
improve their scholastic standing.
And many parents go along with it and all it
takes is testing by a professional and Voila,
a prescription for the student.
then some students end up selling their pills at school.

If McLeod and Schmegelsky are in the Gillam area and alive, I think that they have to be in a cabin that they came across quite accidentally and that for whatever reason hasn’t been searched yet, or somewhere along the Nelson River. I believe that other scenarios, without a topo map and orienteering skills, mean that they are dead or close to it, quite possibly from hypothermia.

If they got out of Gillam, they could be anywhere in Canada. The scenario that the RCMP has raised - someone giving them a lift and not coming forward - is entirely possible. There are many reasons why someone would prefer to say nothing - suspended driver’s license, outstanding criminal charge, a certain empathy for McLeod and Schmegelsky, even interest in watching this play out.

This weekend’s canvass of local homeowners, if it comes up blank, will exclude one more scenario.

Police have confirmed that LD was shot too.

I've never played it.

My experience with games in general is that they are not very realistic. The only exception would be simulations - think of a flight simulator like X-Plane. Or perhaps something like Kerbal Space Program, where one of the selling points of the game is getting orbital mechanics mostly right.

Put it this way: there was a very popular western-themed game released last year, Red Dead Redemption 2. You can hunt and skin animals, and people were complaining about the skinning animation taking a while (seconds), even though skinning an animal like a deer in real life would take about an hour.

Ok thanks. I wasn't sure how much expert design input/educational value there might be in this game, not that it would necessarily help a teenager in real life. They would have had to make smart survival decisions from the get go to survive this long. MOO
