I have not stepped in retail since the day before T-Giving. I have so much avoidance - I lost my flip flops , and am waiting until Jan 4, 2016 to step foot (ha)anywhere!!

I wonder if this would be making headlines if there hadn't been the other two stabbings. It's not like they're all that uncommon but how often do we hear about them?

Sword fights, however, are always timely.

Maybe Star Wars and those saber things or whatever are bringing out the sword fighters? Hey its possible !!!

The security footage shows the suspect slashing at the victim four or five times with a foot-long machete.

The victim was able to stand and run away after the initial assault, but the suspect pursued him into the Atrium building. It is not clear if they made contact again.


The footage shows the suspect reappearing by the doors. He was taken down soon after stepping back outside.


Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack and the Criminal Investigation Bureau has video to review. Police could not confirm whether the incident was racially motivated. Corra said mental health issues could be a factor.

This non-fatal attack with a machete, is not related at all to the recent and tragically fatal, attack on a woman in a drugstore, imo.
The attacks were apparently random in each case, imo.

A man has been charged with attempted murder following what police call an unprovoked attack on another man near Toronto's Eaton Centre Wednesday afternoon.

Arlington Thompson, 35, also faces charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. Police say the man had a 30-centimetre machete, which he allegedly used in the attack. Police say the man also had a 20-centimetre hunting knife. Police now have both weapons.

The attack left a 30-year-old man with several injuries. Police say he is in stable condition in hospital.

Toronto Police Sgt. Gale Corra said the two men had no previous contact and no history with each other.

"They may have just been crossing each other on the street," said Corra

I don't think the two incidents are related either, and I don't think either attacker knew their victims. Although it wouldn't surprise me if RB had previously seen Rosemarie even though they didn't know each other.

A 35-year old man from New York City was scheduled to appear in a Toronto court this morning after a machete attack near the Eaton Centre last night.

Police said the victim, a 30-year-old man, was standing at the corner of Bay and Dundas Sts. just after 4:30 p.m. when he was attacked by a machete-wielding man in what’s believed to have been an unprovoked attack.

Security footage viewed by the Star shows a security guard tackling the suspect from behind. Armed with only handcuffs, the guard grabbed the suspect’s arm before tossing him on the ground. He and another guard restrained and handcuffed the suspect.

Glad to know that security and LE executed a quick, effective take down of the suspect before anyone else got hurt.
Kudos to everyone involved, including the bystander who stepped in to help the victim!
