If the military has no control over whether or not he receives his pension in prison, then who does? Why would a confessed murderer still receive a military pension. Can't he be dishonourably discharged and stripped of both rank and pension?

Lianne Elliott:
The military acknowledged it cannot do anything about Williams's pension and that he is entitled to it unless the government takes steps to strip him of it. It would be up to federal government to enact legislation, for example, said Brig.-Gen. Neville Russell, director general of air personal. The military would not play a roll in the pension issue and has no way of removing the pension, he said.

Criminal defence lawyer Russell Silverstein discusses the case of Col. Russell Williams with the CBC's Carole MacNeil: http://www.cbc.ca/video/#/News/1221258968/ID=1618543905

Silverstein also (if I heard him correctly) say that since RW is pleading guilty to the B & E he will also be sentenced for those. So how much more time would he be expected to get on top of 25 years?

Also, dumb question, but is it 25 years per murder? = 50 years?

I hope that in the future people who are compulsive *advertiser censored*-kissers and Schmoozers no-longer get promoted for their behavior but rather suspected of ulterior motives. Not only in DND but in all aspects of our society.

To me this seems like that common sense lost somewhere that has led to an increasing abundance of incompetence everywhere in our society.

From the article:

"Ennis said Carson’s sexual arousal is closely linked with feeling powerful “by creating real or imagined circumstances in which he can feel sexually potent without fear of rejection or criticism.”

Stealing and ejaculating in women’s underwear allows him a “sense of non-consenting sexual access.” His preference for conventional, non-coercive sex means he surrounds himself with non-threatening sexual partners such as young girls and fetish objects.

Ennis said Carson was at moderate risk for breaking-and-entering and accessing child *advertiser censored* in the future. (Since he is going to gaol and has lost his career and has been publicly exposed as a disgraced RCMP member and a sexual deviant his anxiety level must be higher than ever. That should increase his chances of wanting to reoffend.)

But until he resolves his feelings of inadequacy and associated anger towards women, Ennis said, Carson would be inclined to “engage in maladaptive behaviours.” "

Also from the article:

"Carson was arrested last year after his DNA from a coffee cup matched stains on the women’s underwear. A subsequent search of his home computer also found more than 32,000 pictures and videos of *advertiser censored*, including 24 videos involving children."

There might be some lessons learned from the B.C. case, if the OPP were willing to look a little further. Meanwhile, it seems the media is promoting the view that RW's behavior is unique in human history.

Greg McArthur - Crown Attorney Lee Burgess: Col. Williams kept a "deeply nested and complex series of subfolders" of his fetish photos on his computer so that his wife would never discover them.

Greg McArthur - In his police confession, Col. Williams told his interrogator that he didn't know the sexual assault victim -- who can't be named because of a publication ban -- but that he once saw her from his boat and "thought she was cute."

Spectators horrified at testimony

Local News

By Luke Hendry

They described the experience in a single word: "sick."

Sitting next to Smith and Anderson was another friend who declined to give her name.

The reason: her grandfather is a retired Canadian Forces officer and one of Williams' predecessors as commander of CFB Trenton.

"It was really crazy to think someone with that power and authority could do that," said the young woman.

She added her grandparents didn't believe her when she first told them of Williams' arrest

Williams Videotaped Murder

The Crown confirmed in court Monday that both murder victims, Marie-France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd, were videotaped by Williams.

In Comeau’s case, her actual murder is on tape.

What is not clear is how the court will handle this when the videotapes are presented as evidence, likely on Tuesday.

In the case of schoolgirl killer Paul Bernardo, convicted in 1995, Justice Patrick LeSage ruled videotaped evidence of teen victims being attacked and tortured would be heard by the public, but not seen.

They were later destroyed, and transcripts of the tapes kept in the file.

This must be one of the saddest days in Canada, what a disgrace this monster is.

Here is the CFB Trenton Newspaper, showing RW saluting Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth, when he flew her and Prince Phillip in 2005.

Further on in the paper, there is a picture of him with his flight crew. I do not believe his murder victim, Marie France Comeau ever flew with him, but, that detail may emerge yet.

There were five break-ins in November. One of them was at the Brighton residence of Cpl. Marie-France Comeau, 38, an air force flight attendant who once flew with Williams on an assignment to Europe.

Some Twitter users find disturbing details of Williams' crimes too much to take

"As sick and twisted as it all is, can't help but be glued to the Russ Williams feeds from the courtroom," said UniquelyCedra.

There are obvious benefits to using Twitter and other web tools as means of distributing information, but journalists shouldn't forget old-fashioned ethics when they're racing to spread news, said Christopher Waddell, director of Carleton University's journalism school.

"Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you necessarily should. I think what we need to be very careful about, as we all use these new tools of technology, is there are still ethical decisions that need to be applied to what you report and how you report it," Waddell said.

"Simply because you can report something instantaneously doesn't mean you necessarily should, and it doesn't necessarily mean that the audience is actually interested in knowing all those sorts of things.

"You need to think ethically what is the purpose you're actually serving by doing that."

Ryerson University Prof. Charles Zamaria said the trial will be an interesting case study in how technology will change the way information is filtered out to the masses.
