Q: why did you decide to do that? Why that method?

A: I had thought about strangling her earlier... It was short-live attempt... I decided to suffocate her.

Q: what's on the video?

A: me putting her hand on her throat... Surprising fight back.

Q: video the suffocation?

A: yes...

Q: Let's get back to the issue... Does he want to be seen as a cold-blooded psychopath or someone who cares?

A: my only concern as to perception is for my wife... And the impact this will have on the Canadian Forces.

RW: I am concerned they are tearing apart my wife's brand new house.

Thank you, Wondergirl. I see this as a very important insight into RW's strategy. Let us be reminded that he was trained to become Canada's best fighter pilot; how to evade, avoid, out-maneuver, attack, destroy...

He ignores the issue in the detective's question, and plainly reveals that he doesn't care a flip for his victims or what anybody thinks:

A: my only concern as to perception is for my wife... And the impact this will have on the Canadian Forces.

My interpretation: What is Mama gonna say!!! I'm gonna catch H--- for this.

By bringing in the Canadian Forces he is really saying, Don't you know WHO I am?? I'm the commander of the biggest base in Canada! Is this a veiled threat? A reminder of his power and an attempt to intimidate the detective?

The House:

RW: I am concerned they are tearing apart my wife's brand new house.

Even before confessing he is calling it his wife's house, and implying there will be consequences for tearing it apart.

We can see that RW has considered the consequences of his ever being caught, just as fighter pilots are taught to plan strategy and each tactic thereof to ensure 'the win' and his survival.

My hat is off to Detective Smyth for his professional work in this investigation and the manner in which he interrogated RW. For all his cunning and skill, RW lost this one - Big Time!

CBC:
Amber Hildebrandt reports: "The interrogation turns to Laurie Massicotte, the second sexual assault victim. Smyth asks how Williams chose her. Again, he says it was because 'I knew she lived alone.' He admits to peering into her home a few times. '"I looked around to see if there were any permanent signs of her boyfriend,' he says."

CBC:
Amber Hildebrandt reports: "He estimates being in her home for roughly 2.5 hours. 'I told her I wasn't going to hurt her, that there were other guys in the house robbing her and that my job was just to control her,' he tells police."

CBC:
Amber Hildebrant reports: "As he describes the assault, Williams says, 'She was worried she was going to be killed. I said, I'm not going to kill you.'"

Sorry I won't be able to post for a while as I have to go! See you later!

Det. Insp. Chris Nicholas, the lead OPP investigator on the case, has praised Det. Sgt. Jim Smyth's work conducting the interview.

"It was an excellent piece of police work," he told CBC News before the proceedings got underway today. "It's one of the best interviews I've ever seen. It's a smart man being outsmarted by a smarter man."

BBM: Here's to that, Det. Nicholas, I couldn't agree more.

One of the most striking things about the interview is how different the questions are than what your average person on the street would ask.

If you sat down with someone like this at a coffee shop, and he started explaining how he had done all of this, most folks would become consumed with the issue of why.

Why did you do this? What is wrong with you?

But Det. Sgt. Smyth is like a robot -- in a good way. He just keeps amassing more and more evidence.

The question of why can be saved for the psychiatrists.

2009 Fall - Col Russell Williams (Svoka) and Cpl. Marie-France Comeau are on the same VIP flight to Germany.

Greg McArthur:
When did you pick Marie-France's house? October. Why? "Well, she said she lived alone the one time I met her."

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news...f-col-williamss-hearing-day-3/article1759108/

Cpl. Marie-France Comeau, 38, a flight attendant who was under Williams' command, had caught his eye during a military flight. He used his authority as commander of Canada's busiest air base to learn the schedule and address of one of his murder victims, court heard Tuesday.

RW had thousands under his chain of command. He was an extremely busy man. I find it plausible that he didn't know everyone, or remember everyone he crossed paths with.

I see no point in his lying about how many times he met her. He is admitting that he had, that he had broken into her home previously, and that he assaulted and killed her. What difference does it make? But even if he had been lying ... if only that lying were the worst of his sins! :(

R.I.P.

Smyth is now asking about William's two sexual assaults.

The second, of a neighbour, was targeted because he knew she lived alone.

"I looked in her window and she was alone."

He broke in night before, looking for signs of a boyfriend and to steal her underwear.

He returned another night, wearing headband and cap, dark clothing, and saw she was asleep on the couch watching TV.

He hit her with his flashlight trying to knock her out, stayed for a while and then left.

Q: That's a pretty short description for two and a half hours.

A: we talked, I told her I wasn't going to hurt her. I told there was other people in the house robbing it but it was just to control her.

He then detailed cutting off her clothes, taking his sexual photos and then told her to count to give him time to escape before she called police.

Q: what did you do when you got home?

A: went to sleep.

Q: next day?

A: went to work.
