Toronto police have now dismantled a command post set up to search for a 37-year-old man with Down syndrome who disappeared nearly a week ago and remains missing.

The man, whose first name is Nathan, disappeared from the area of Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue last Friday and has not yet been found.

A Level Three search, which is the highest level of search for any missing person, was conducted in the North York neighbourhood where he was last seen.

A command post was also set up outside a community centre on Grand Ravine Drive on Tuesday as police scoured a 500-metre area in the surrounding neighbourhood. Police confirmed Thursday that they have now shut down the command post.

“At this time there are no further updates,” Toronto police said in an email to CP24. “It is an ongoing investigation and police are still looking for Nathan.”

''Investigators said Thursday they have expanded their efforts to encompass a 500-metre search radius of the area, up from 300. The “all hands on deck” approach includes Toronto police mounted units and police dogs.

“(We are) checking all backyards, laneways, cars, and forest areas,” says Forde. “This area is very green.”

Nathan is new to Toronto and previously lived in the Kitchener-Waterloo area. His family reported his disappearance after finding out he was not under supervision when they thought he was.

Waterloo Regional Police have been contacted but say the extent of their involvement is only to share information on social media.

He is described as four feet six inches tall and 170 pounds, and has a full beard and mustache.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.''

He’s obviously special needs based on his appearance. It looks like he has Down syndrome. His face structure and height are consistent with it. He’s 4’6” (137 cm) and 170 pounds (77 kg). That’s short and beefy, the typical build.

It seems like a family member or caretaker took their eye off him and he went out by himself. That’s disturbing. I wonder how much support he actually needs. He’s described as not being able to care for himself, so I can infer he was living with a guardian. Has the guardian ever said anything?

Hoping he is found soon.
Edit: It appears he does have Downs. Surely someone. SOMEONE has to know him and come forward to claim him, bring him home.

Huh. Did anyone say they saw someone they believed was him?
The guy who was working there said a number of people saw him. It's far from where he was but there is a GO station in Guildwood so he could have taken it and then walked south. We were all perplexed when we found out the reason police were looking for him there.

That’s odd. Did he find himself lost? Was he kidnapped? Probably not the latter but could be a possibility since it’s far from his home. I find it odd he’d go that far from home. His family must be worried sick about him.

How would he have got to Guelph? Does he have money. How special needs are we talking here? To get from Jane and Shepherd in Toronto to Guelph would require transportation somehow.

If he was seen in Guelph, he may be trying to get back to Kitchener Waterloo. He’s pretty close.

He has Down syndrome. Most individuals with Down syndrome have an IQ of about 50. Adults are usually at the mental age of about 6-10.
