Yes - it is in Japanese language but it includes an interview (in English) with someone from the same hometown as the accused who provides some insights into his past; also, an interview with a Japanese-speaker who indicated the accused was a regular at the Waves Cafe and seemed to confirm that was where the accused & the victim initially met.

"According to court documents obtained by CTV News, the crime of indignity is believed to have taken place on or around the day he was filmed with the victim."

Am I mistaken or is the take away that NK was on the "grounds" at Gabriola Mansion for almost 20 days before she was found? An autopsy will be able to pin this down with a fair bit of precision. Not to take anything away from LE, they carefully put the whole thing together as quickly as possible. Schneider isn't the brightest penny in the stack, he must have hidden the body extremely well and did it without the whole neighborhood seeing anything. And then he was simply lucky and manged to get pretty far away (5-6 hrs) up into the interior in Vernon. JMO

So the old classmate said that WS was a bully and got into drugs. When they found out he was arrested in this case he said that he and his friends weren't surprised.

Sounds like one of our finer citizens. :maddening:

WHERE ELSE has WVS been??? Is he homeless???

Was he in YVR until they discovered her body???

Or is it just a coinkydink that they found him in Vernon in nearly the same amout of time it takes to drive there from YVR?!?!?!

:thud:

How did he get to Vernon??? Hitch a ride???

What a dirty dirty rotter!!!!!!

Could he be responsible for others who are missing???

RIP Natsumi!!!! Rest knowing they got him!!!

:rose:

Highlights:

- the Missing Persons investigation led police to search the grounds of the Davie Street mansion. (when later asked for specifics, not willing to give details)

Here's a photo of the police search.

I think the 6' fence goes all around the house, whereas the grounds are fairly accessible and landscaped with shrubs. I don't picture NK climbing over that fence, in the middle of the afternoon, in her sandals. I imagine the house would have a good security alarm system, and be regularly checked, to prevent squatters moving in. The grounds would also be checked, since it would also be a great place for the homeless to set up camp.

So if WVS spoke Japanese, perhaps he joined the casual conversation group meet ups at the coffee shop. Maybe he convinced Natsumi that he owned the mansion, but it was being renovated so he was just going to camp there rather than continuing to stay at a hotel. Did he invite her to see it?

She looked so cute and so excited to be conversing with WVS. This just breaks my heart.

FWIW, there's a Wave's Cafe @ 211 Robson Street --- only 47m from the Catholic Charity Mens Hostel https://goo.gl/maps/f8Sr16EFxd62

According to a TV news story released by Japanese Asahi Television yesterday (2016/10/02 11:46), some time after the time the CCTV cameras captured the two walking in the Harbour Centre mall, they indicate that the two entered a liquor shop where the female victim, not Schneider, made a purchase (the article below indicates a high-proof alcohol but the same station is indicating right now that it was specifically a bottle of vodka). Friends of the victim, according to the news report, indicated that she was not known to drink alcohol and at the same time, they indicated that the accused has had a history of alcohol addiction.

Just in case it gets brought up ... there is a "publication ban" referenced by the RCMP spokesman Acting SGT Brian Montague during the press conference however it was in reference to why the police were unable to share further details of the case. If there were a publication ban that was to be directed toward members of the press, one would expect Acting SGT Montague to indicate that as well as a corresponding order issued from the Court. And, even if there were a publication ban issued by the Court as in the 1993 trial of Paul Bernardo ( and Karla Homolka), even back then, it was clear that the Internet and American journalists with their 1st Amendment Rights weren't going to be automatically cowed into compliance.

VANCOUVER, CANADA (TR) – Vancouver police are seeking to apply murder charges to a 48-year-old Canadian male in custody after the body of a missing Japanese woman was found last week, reports TBS News (Oct. 2).
As a part of the investigation, Vancouver police are attempting to determine whether a cafe where foreign exchange students practice English conversation is where Kogawa got to know Schneider, according to Fuji News Network (Oct. 2).

According to the report, Kogawa practiced English at the cafe while the suspect often utilized it as a chance to hit on Japanese women. A regular said that Schneider “was often hitting on girls. He seemed to have no interest in men.”
“I can’t believe it,” Kogawa’s father is quoted by TV Asahi (Oct. 2). “She was a gentle daughter who cared about her family.”

This all so sad. It seems he flirted with her and lured her to the mansion somehow. She was too trusting. :(

From the Tokyo Reporter article Gardener1850 found us:

May sound a minor point in the scope of things, but just wanted to point out the TokyoReporter news erred in writing "Kogawa's father". Going to the TV Asahi link the publication itself refers to, it translates to "Kogawa's mother", not father.

The reason reading "father" struck me was because just prior I had read another article at JapanToday, and (we'll have to consider this rumor, since I only saw it in the comment section under the article about Natsumi), someone claimed to know her family and said NK's father died a couple of years ago.

So, I looked at that TV Asahi link. It's in Japanese, but putting it into Bing Translator, the characters 母親 means "mother". Gee, if it is true poor NK's mother lost her husband not too long ago, and now her daughter. What she must be going through.

Poor lady. I hope Natsumi's friends give her mother whatever is left from the money they raised for her search. I don't know if she will be able to travel to Canada, but bringing her daughter's body back to Japan for funeral could be really expensive.

A wonderful, quiet and very kind person whom I was happy to have met. Really.

Natsumi did nothing to contribute to her death, she was not a foolish woman.

I am also confident Police have the right suspect, WILLIAM VICTOR SCHNEIDER (48) a local unemployed loser drifter with a life long history of criminal behavior and convictions.

I am sad for her close friends and family.

She will be remembered and I will be in court to observe WILLIAM VICTOR SCHNEIDER. Next in court Nov 17th @14:00. Vancouver Criminal Court - 222 Main St.

I try to understand it all but it is hard.

I know that it may be tough, but, if you are up to it, if you would be willing to share your observations at the court appearance it would be appreciated.
Of course, if it doesn't feel right, that's o.k.

This case really bothers me because Natsumi (pardon my familial use of Ms Kogawa's name, but I feel that she was such a lovely friendly soul) was open and kind with strangers. Why can't the world be filled with Natsumis?

It is disturbing what happened especially there are indications he was around other students at the coffee shop, hanging around the food courts of various malls and many knew of him by name. He was also seen and known in the downtown.
My heart is very heavy for her.
I encourage people to attend court on Nov 17th - 2016 @ 222 Main St at 14:00. - Courtroom 101. Bring a picture of Natsumi and sit in the viewing area. Suspects are brought in and see all persons. Mr.******** will there at 14:00 so come early 13:30.

Wiiliam Victor Schneider has also been charged with Attempted Sexual Assault in an unrelated case. This incident occurred in Vernon.BC after he is alleged to have murdered Natsumi. This Sexual Assault Attempt occurred on Sept. 28th, the same day he was originally charged with Indignity to a Body and arrested in Vernon for that. Charges of Attempted Sexual Assault were sworn in court on Jan.31st. He appeared in Vernon court on Feb.16th and will return for this charge again on March 2nd.

He will be next in court for the murder charge related to Natsumi on March 27th.
