Police doubt man's story about girl's disappearance.
TORONTO (CP) - A U.S. man's claim that he is a serial killer possibly connected with the unsolved disappearance of a Toronto girl three years ago is being viewed skeptically by Toronto police. Lovie Rid-. i . 1 1 i claims he has f f.1 - wQarc killed up to Missing 3 years 30 people in the U.S. and Canada, was interviewed by Toronto homicide detectives two weeks ago in connection with the disappearance of eight-year-old Nicole Mo-rin. But Riddle's story "just didn't fit in with the Morin disappearance," Sgt. Russ Ruddock said Tuesday. If Riddle's claim appeared true, "it would be one of the strongest leads we've ever had in the case," said Ruddock. The Toronto detectives interviewed Riddle in South Paris, Me., where he is being held on a charge of gross sexual misconduct. "I don't think very much came of it," said Ruddock, who was not siorif earance among officers who interviewed Riddle. Police are still scrutinizing Riddle's story, however, said Sgt. Mike Duchak. "The book hasn't been closed on it." The two Toronto detectives spent a day talking to Riddle who has "talked about the children he has taken in Canada," Det. Peter Herring of Maine State Police said earlier. Morin was last seen in July 1985, heading for an outdoor pool at her family's townhouse. A picture of the little girl wearing a bathing suit and carrying a shopping bag has been distributed across the continent. 11 J AP photo Lovie Riddle, background, is under arrest in Maine
