Man arrested in connection with disappearance of Donna O’Rielly, Moncton, N.B.

54-year-old Donna O’Rielly was found alive today during the lunch hour by a person driving in the area of St. George Boulevard just west of Vaughn Harvey Boulevard in Moncton. For precautionary reasons, Mrs. O’Rielly was immediately taken to hospital to be seen by medical staff.

Codiac Regional RCMP have arrested a 62-year-old Moncton man in connection with the alleged abduction of Donna O’Rielly. The suspect was arrested without incident at around 2:00pm in Moncton.

Investigators are speaking to Donna O’Rielly to learn what has happened to her since February 26th. The family has asked that their privacy be respected and they not be disturbed as they reunite with Donna O’Rielly.

The suspect is expected to appear tomorrow in Moncton Provincial Court.

Const. Chantal Farrah said the man arrested is known to police but she wouldn't say why.

"Well, obviously, that's what investigators are working to discover. So as you can imagine she was just found over the lunch hour, it's about 4 p.m. right now, so things are unfolding very quickly and investigators are working with Mrs. O'Rielly to find out exactly what happened," Farrah said.

Police believe O'Rielly was held captive in a basement.

She is in a Moncton hospital for what police are calling precautionary reasons.

"She got away on her own when the guy went out for some reason. She got out of the house, went out on the road and flagged down a Purolator truck. And from there the guy took her right to the cop station, from there cops took it over," Lawrence said.

Funnygirl, you need to click EDIT, then click where it says GO ADVANCE, and there would be a drop-down list (PREFIX) at the left hand side of where the Title is.
Unfortunately, since it's been quite a while since your first post on this thread, I believe that you will no longer be able to EDIT and change the PREFIX, unless you have special authorization.

I believe only a MOD can do it. You can PM a mod and ask her to do it for you :)
 
Thanks Hazel - I notified a Mod in order to amend the Title of the Thread to "Found Alive".

I'm sitting on pins and needles wondering just how this happened, whether or not Donna knew this person, etc.

I have so many questions running through my head right now. So many, the same questions as you and if this guy was known to police why weren't they checking there instead of letting her find her own way out. Just simply wonderful news that she is found alive - think I will sit back and enjoy that thought for the rest of this day.

What a brave and strong woman she is, to run from her captor when she had the opportunity. I'm so happy for her and her family. I hope she will heal from this experience.

I'm thinking he probably had a criminal record. I wonder if she was acquainted with him? I'm sure we will hear soon.

When police say that the person is 'known to them' it usually means they've had contact with him on a previous occasion - which in effect could mean anything - from a parking infraction to the person having had been before the Courts on a criminal charge, etc.

I am curious to know if they knew each other - its not all that 'popular' to an abductor to keep his victim alive and by his leaving to run errands or whatever - for him to then give Donna the opportunity to escape.

If she knew who this was - she must have kept herself useful to him by 'befriending' him and personalizing herself to him.

If this is a totally random abduction - I wonder what the purpose was for such.

I am hearing unconfirmed rumours that this man was/is a neighbour to the O'Rielly's - all unconfirmed at this point.
 
The story circulating here is that he was someone that hung out at the mall where she worked, Lived just minutes from the mall. Older man 62.. long grey hair that always dressed in camo.. He will be in court tomorrow.

I think a lot of us thought it would be someone who worked or hung out at the mall. The RCMP sure threw us a curve ball, with their statement a few days ago.

I wonder if the outside video shows her getting into a vehicle with him? Perhaps he offered her a ride to her car in the bad weather, etc. Then he abducted her instead. Just a possible scenario.
 
I am thrilled and delighted that Donna O'Reilly has been found. Alive, safe and sound.
 
So wonderful to see some good news today!!! I can't imagine how happy her family is today, God bless them!! Prayers for quick healing from whatever she had to endure. :woohoo:
