RCMP say they received a request on June 9 to locate 18-year-old Vernon woman Traci Genereaux. She was last heard from on May 29. Her family says this is unusual behaviour for Genereaux. She's described as Caucasian, 4'11" tall, about 95 lbs. with brown hair and blue eyes.

Looking more closely into the list of 5 missing women, and the information released about the circumstances of them going missing, I'd guess police suspect two of them have committed suicide, and two of them most likely have been victims of someone known to them (ie.not the same person). One case, Nicole Bell, is peculiar as virtually nothing has been released about the circumstances of her going missing.

I've been wondering if she worked as an escort. Also, police have found remains and they are still looking, so I think that means they are expecting that there are more victims.

Another interesting point is that an escort made a complaint in August, and police have been investigating since then but it seems that it took until last week for investigators to obtain a search warrant.

Ashley Simpson lived across the street from my sister Deanna Wertz who is also missing,” Alanna Wertz posted recently on Facebook, where she has begged for answers in her sister’s case.

On Monday night, Alanna Wertz said she had no information about whether the search of the farm had anything to do with her missing sister’s case. She added she would wait a few more days before asking police if they can provide her family with any details, such as when forensic testing will be done on the remains.

Mounties have not made any connection between the August incident and the search warrant executed last week.

Nothing in the RCMP releases for Genereaux and Wertz's disappearances suggested they had any connection to escorting or the sex trade.

"Mounties have been searching the property in the 2200 block of Salmon River Road since last Thursday, and a second search is underway 15 kilometres to the northeast, near Springbend Road and Highway 97B.

Investigators have not said whether they've found the remains of one person or multiple people, but they say the discovery is suspicious."

VERNON - Traci Genereaux’s parents desperately want to find their little girl.

The 18-year-old hasn’t been seen in over three months, during which all her social media accounts went quiet.
“She would never not be in contact with me or her mom for, at the most, 48 hours. She’d always let us know where she was going, what she was doing,” her dad, Darcy Genereaux says.
Traci was supposed to pick up a telescope at her mom’s place on May 29, 2017 but disappeared.
“We were going to watch the stars,” Darcy says. “She never came back that night.”
The family found out through an acquaintance that Traci was last seen a couple days later speaking to someone in a white van near the bottle depot on 24 Avenue, Darcy says.
Traci has struggled with drug use in the past, but was doing much better, Darcy says. She hasn’t lived at home for about two years, instead choosing to “go out on her own”, but they always kept in touch, according to her father.
“She was couch surfing,” he says. “We’ve contacted every person she hung out with, any friends she’s ever had. No one has seen her.”

Are you drawing attention to the fact that one of the women missing last year was probably hitch hiking at the location where there is now a search? That doesn't make a connection beyond her home and the current search location - all within a close proximity of a few miles.

Highway 16 is an eight or nine hour drive North of the search location. It is also important to point out that although some of the Highway 16 victims are aboriginal, many are not. I don't see any connection between the current search and Highway 16

I appreciate your opinion

I am familiar with the area and long hwy treks thru the mountains &/or vast nothingness...I know that if you are working in Northern BC / AB there is really only a few routes, so whether or not it takes 8 or 9 hours to get there is irrelevant to me.

It looks like the 2016 disappearances have been ruled out - most likely because the remains are not that old.

To clarify, police do not believe the disappearances of Ashley Simpson, Caitlan Potts and Deanne Wortz are related to each other, they have said repeatedly that the fact these disappearances occurred in the same geographical location is just coincidence.

RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says there is no indication of foul play in the case of Deanna Wertz, and no evidence to suggest her disappearance is related to that of Caitlin Potts or Ashley Simpson. He acknowledges it’s unusual to have this many people missing from the same area over a short period of time.

“Certainly, it’s an anomaly to have three women go missing in such a small community, but not unheard of,” Moskaluk says. He says the investigations are ongoing into each of the three women.

I believe they have strong suspects, known to the victims, in two of those cases, and are pursuing major investigations to try to make arrests. In the third case, the circumstance would indicate suicide or an accident.

Police could possibly be going along the wrong track on one of the cases, but it is the circumstances of each specific case that leads them to be ruled out of the search, not anything to do with the remains.

Sure, the area is not well populated, but I'm looking at it from the perspective of a predator and what the person will do after abducting a young woman. My opinion is that the victim will be attacked close to the time of abduction, and that the victim rarely survives more than an hour after the time of abduction. On that basis, I doubt that a victim will be driven eight or nine hours to the suspect's home.

An awful lot of women disappeared over a number of years at the hands of Robert Pickton before investigators were able to make a connection between victims.

An awful lot of women disappeared over a number of years at the hands of Robert Pickton before investigators were able to make a connection between victims.

This may well expand to a review of missing women throughout the province, especially if the suspect's movements can be traced to dates when women disappeared. For now, it seems like a massive search of two properties. Coincidentally two of this man's neighbours disappeared in the last year.

He is charged with covering his face, threatening with a gun, and drugs. The woman who filed complaint met the suspect online and knew where he lived, so I'm guessing he hunted close to home and preferred to lure women to him.

Police say it's unclear whether the remains belong to one person or several persons.

"The area where the search is underway is rural countryside, which is why Deanna Wertz loved living there. On the morning of July 19, 2016, Deanna’s husband left for work and she told a relative over the phone that she was going for a hike. The artistic, outdoorsy woman left her wallet and identification in the house.

“It was just like ‘poof!’ — she was gone,” recalled Alanna, who lives in Summerland and last spoke with her sister about a week before she went missing.

“She was in great spirits … We were trying to plan to get together. We were very excited, it was a very amazing talk. We’ve had literally zero clues to where she is.”
...

"Caitlin’s sister Codi Potts posted on Facebook Tuesday that she was worried her sister, who worked in the sex trade, could be connected to this farm because of the August incident involving the threat against an escort.
...

Her father Darcy begged for answers on his Facebook page, noting she was last seen “getting into a white Chevy van by the old bottle depot in Vernon. She always keeps in touch with her mother or myself every couple days.”

“It’s five women within the immediate area — within a half-hour drive radius — of where the main search site is.”

[h=1]'1 young lady was running away': Suspicious activity alleged near site of B.C. search[/h]
[h=3]RCMP issued public warning after August incident where woman said she was threatened with a gun[/h]
Sex workers made frequent visits to the rural area surrounding a north Okanagan property where investigators uncovered human remains this weekend, a neighbour has revealed.

The man, whom CBC News has agreed not to name, said he called police last month after noticing the footprints of a woman who appeared to be in distress.

"One young lady was running away," he said. "We saw her tracks. First, she drove and went in the ditch and then we saw that she ran up the hill — really, really hard, barefooted ... We reported that right away, because we knew something was happening."
Police have not confirmed the neighbour's story.

The six-day search of a Salmon Arm-area farm where human remains have been found is expected to intensify, as police plan to bring in more equipment and resources to help look for evidence on the rural property.

“There will be a visible increase at the site in the next couple of days,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, spokesman for the RCMP Southeast District.

On Tuesday, three investigators donned latex gloves to search in and around a horse trailer near the entrance of the property at 2290 Salmon River Rd. in Silver Creek, where last Friday RCMP made the grim discovery while executing a search warrant. Six police vehicles, including a mobile command unit, were parked at the site
One neighbour, who spoke on the condition they not be identified, said their family only recently met Curtis Sagmoen, after living near his family for many years.

“I didn’t even know he existed ’til the last week or two,” the neighbour said.

“We didn’t even know who he was.”

I think this body was found months ago , I remember this obscure blurb in the vancouver sun ( online edition) about human remains found on rural property in a bc town then I never heard any more about it. Im almost certain this is the same body. Maybe it took this long to get search warrants ?

That doesn't sound right. Police can obtain a search warrant immediately if human remains are found on someone's property.

Police were first alerted to a problem at this property in August when a sex worker reported that she was threatened with a gun. The search started last week and human remains were found last Friday.
