Te mall in question is the rideau centre, and the shooting was "near" it according to police reports, which seems to have been dropped by media. My guess would be either on Mackenzie King bridge(which is attached to the mall and also attached to a military building). It is the hub station of downtown transit as well. There is often at least 50 or so people standing On said bridge, at 9-10 am likely quite a bit more.

The other side of the mall is rideau street, which connects to where parliament hill is, and is also quite close to the US embassy and many other federal buildings so who knows.

This is very surreal and heartbreaking seeing our Parliament buildings on CNN due to what is likely a terrorist attack. Especially after the attack on Monday in which another Canadian soldier succumbed to his injuries.

Rideau Mall is also attached to a hotel, I believe it's a Westin. That whole area is very busy. They could have shot many people but clearly they were targeting soldiers or government officials.

Received this alert:

KFIAM640: Ottawa police say shots fired at three places in theCanadian capital. www.kfiam640.com

The above link just replayed the audio of the shooting in the Parliament building. Incredible.

I am also watching live coverage on CNN, with Ashleigh Banfield.

This is horrible. I feel like Canada is my second home as I have many friends and family there. Thoughts and prays for all of you.

From CBC TV live coverage (link above) — per Peter Mansbridge (anchor):

Two soldiers (both reservists) were shot at the War Memorial, 1 is okay and the condition of the other is unknown. Both are from Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders Regiment of Hamilton, Ontario.

"Conservative MP Maurice Vellacott says his staff was told by Commons security there were as many as three gunmen and one was dead. Police haven’t confirmed that.

Vellacott was escorting a group of parents and children through security one floor below main entrance when he heard a gunshot.

Security staff quickly hustled the group out of the building through a tunnel to East Block. He said several of the group remain under lockdown in East Block.

The incident comes just two days after two Canadian soldiers were run over — and one of them killed — in Quebec by a man with jihadist sympathies.

The incident on Parliament Hill was an unprecedented breach of security, according to eyewitnesses."

"CNN) -- A Canadian soldier was shot as he and another soldier stood guard at Canada's Parliament war memorial Wednesday. Details are emerging as authorities try to secure the government building in Ottawa.

The violence is not confined to Parliament. Police say that there could be multiple shooters and shooting incidents in the capital"

On CNN they are implying these are ISIS attacks? Are they jumping to conclusions or is this the future we all feared?
