Toronto police are searching for a 14-year-old boy who they say was abducted early Wednesday morning.

Police say Shammah Jolayemi was last seen in the area of Jane Street and Driftwood Avenue at around 8:25 a.m.

Jolayemi is described as five-foot-11 to six-feet with a slim build and short dark brown hair. He was last seen wearing a grey hoody and grey track pants with a thin orange stripe, a shinny black coat and black and yellow Air Jordans.

Police say a vehicle of interest was spotted when the boy was last seen. It is described as a black Jeep Wrangler with oversized front tires and a front brush bar with round fog lights.

Police say they would also like to speak with Jolayemi’s stepbrother, Olalekan Osikoya.

“Police are extremely concerned for his safety and urge anyone who recognizes him, or has any information about his whereabouts, to contact officers,” investigators said in a release late Wednesday night without elaborating on why it took so long to release the news about the missing teen.''

New details: Amber Alert issued for 14-year-old boy last seen in Toronto

<snipped from article>

Toronto Police Insp. Jim Gotell told reporters Shammah Jolayemi was reported missing to officers by one of his parents at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. He said they believed Jolayemi was on his way to school and were unaware he didn’t make it there.

“They came to the conclusion he had been abducted and they had reason to believe he had been abducted,” Gotell said early Thursday.

“We were able to confirm that earlier [in the] day at about 8:26 on Wednesday morning that a 14-year-old boy was observed to be screaming, ‘Help me, help me.'”

Gotell said Jolayemi was abducted by two male suspects wearing black jackets and bandanas on their heads. They are believed to be between 18 and 22 years old.

“We’re fairly confident that [Jolayemi] was abducted by strangers,” he said.

“We wouldn’t [request an Amber Alert] if we didn’t think that the 14-year-old was in danger. We are very concerned for his safety.”

The motive for the kidnapping was unclear.

Gotell said investigators at 31 Division are looking to speak with Jolayemi’s step-brother, Olalekan Osikoya. He said Osikoya is not believed to be a suspect, but added that Osikoya may have information that might help the investigation.

Did no one report anything when he was forced into the vehicle? It wasn't until he didn't come home from school that anyone noticed things were amiss?

If the neighbourhood is as bad as other articles about its gang activity make it out to be, might be the kind of neighbourhood where people don't necessarily report a kid being forced into a car until the police come around and start asking the right questions.

I wonder what his school's protocol is for unexcused absences. Did they try to call the parents?

830-530 is a lot of lead time before anyone started looking for Shammah. Took ~16 hours to get an Amber Alert out. He could be anywhere. :(

Sounds like it might be revenge against the stepbrother. Hopefully they let him go unharmed

Sort of where my mind went as well. Not a suspect, but wanted for questioning... Kidnappers strangers to Shammah... Article about OO fraud charges...

Hope the step brother steps up here. Really hope he has some answers and Shammah is just being held somewhere unharmed. Must be such a terrifying experience.
