Here's a long article with a lot of information. I can't cut and paste from it for some reason but it's worth reading:

https://paherald.sk.ca/2018/05/17/over-160-km-of-river-searched-still-no-sign-of-sweetgrass-kennedy/

Sweetgrass was last seen by his family at 4 p.m. last Thursday, May 10. They noticed he was missing at 4:30 p.m. Police became involved at 9.

Later in the article, it refers to these events on Friday:

While that process was coming together, the police investigation continued. By midday, the police had received a tip from a witness that several small children had been playing along the riverbank in the 800 block of River Street East Thursday – only a few blocks from where Sweetgrass was last seen.

Police were able to determine Sweetgrass was among that group of children.

So the family waited over 4 hours to contact LE, and they were not the ones to tell the police where he was playing.

May 23, A search team claimed they located Sweetgrass but LE hasn't confirmed. Two days and no news so I'm inclined to believe it's a false alarm:
'It's not for everyone, recovering bodies': Volunteer Grandmother's Bay recovery team helps find the missing | CBC News
Northern Sask. team uses remote-operated vehicle with sonar technology to aid in river searches
...
The remote-operated vehicle they use is less than a metre long, and about a half metre deep. "Probably the size of a suitcase, a small suitcase," said recovery team leader Thompson McKenzie.
...
McKenzie said they were able to locate what he believed was the body of Sweetgrass Kennedy in the North Saskatchewan River using sonar.

"Once that's done, we call in the divers and the Stanley Mission team to recover it," he said. "But the divers weren't able to recover it."

Prince Albert police confirmed sonar technology had seen an object in the water. However, divers were unable to locate it and could not confirm it was Sweetgrass Kennedy.

Police are still combing the river for any signs of the boy, the spokesperson said, and have no plans to stop until they are successful. The number of officers assigned to the case varies from day to day, the spokesperson noted, but efforts have been ongoing since Kennedy was first reported missing. More than 160 kilometres of the river have been searched.
