Is it possible that he at that moment actually couldn't remember doing it? Then later have the memory come back, when he confessed. It seems that the first murder was a lot more organized and really if he wouldn't of had his family to call him in it might of been a lot longer before they pinpointed him as a suspect. Could he of suffered even more of a "mental break" after the first murder? If he hadn't of been so unorganized and arrested within 24 of TB and HB I wonder if they would of been lead to him as a suspect of the first murder so soon.
I am just glad he had parents that seemed to be so in tune with him and recognized his behaviour after it happened. What if this guy had lived alone or didn't have people in his life that saw the need to contact the police. Or what if he had parents that tried to help cover it up. He could of killed more before he was caught.

From what we've been told, one could infer that DS confessed because the lawyer told him to. That seems problematic to me.

There has to be something to dismiss or shed doubt to the credibility of the confession because he has pled not guilty.

Not necessarily - you can confess and still plead not guilty. But I agree - the defense is going to try and discredit the confession somehow. And "he received improper advice from his attorney" sure seems like a good one.

They still haven't established a motive for any of it. The older lady I don't see a motive at all especially if nothing was taken. Then these two senseless murders. Is "because God told me she was unhappy" a motive?

Unless she told him to tell her the truth during the phone call. Or he told her that he didn't do this, he doesn't know why he was arrested for it and she told him to tell the truth then. And this was a lawyer that DS chose out of a phonebook, not a legal aid lawyer appointed to him or recommended to him by anyone in LE. I'm not up on the case enough to even know if he ever hired her on or just went with a court appointed legal aid lawyer?

Can we assume that this lawyer may end up on the witness list for the Crown? Can she disclose what was actually said between them during that phone call?

Maybe he's still trying to buy time. ;)

My nephew takes seroquel for sleep. He is not schizophrenic but I do understand that it is used to treat schizophrenia. It is an anti psychotic which slows the brain and calms it allowing sleep. You can't just stop taking it. If he was combining street drugs/alcohol and seroquel that's a recipe for disaster.

I am guessing he was seeing a psychiatrist because I cannot imagine a GP prescribing seroquel on their own. It is a powerful drug.

While they don't have to establish motive, it sure would be interesting to find out what it might have been. I know they said that nothing was taken from the woman's wallet, but was that $90,000 that she inherited ever found?

I also think I read a post that said the woman told him not to come around and help her anymore because of his drug/alcohol use? So he may have felt some kind of betrayal from this longtime "friend" because of that?

I think the motive for the TB and HD murders may centre around his "friendship" and feelings for CD.

The initial lawyer was from Legal Aid. Good points - but I would think a (good) lawyer would not tell a client to do that - who knows what they might say? And low and behold, he confessed, not something a defense attorney would want, I'd think.

True...but attorneys do not have to take cases. If this woman knew that the person she was talking to was being evasive with LE about a missing 2 year old child, does she have to stay in defence attorney mode? I don't think they have anything with regards to her if she was never retained as his attorney? His own father was telling him the same thing.

True - it all depends on whether she had been retained as counsel or not.
