I followed this case when it first broke over two years ago and have been reading the tweets from the courtroom daily. Found some times and just thought I would pop in and give my opinion FWIW. DS is nothing but pure evil and likely murdered Hanne and H because he is a sadistic, sexual, deviant who perhaps had grudges or hate against Hanne, C and/or T.
I have no doubt all this BS he fed LE from their first meeting is simply that...BS. I believe he planned and staged everything to appear as though he is insane prior to the murders. He knew there was a chance he was going to get caught so he set it all up to sound and appear as though he is suffering some sort of insanity. From the items found in his apartment to the answers he provided to LE it was planned. Once he got caught he had to play the role, and the fact he asked the officer, "Think I'll have a better chance if I plead insanity? I think I may try." That to me is very telling. He's a coward and knows exactly what could happen to him if he ends up in prison...it's the end of the road for him. He's hoping to spend some time in a mental ward and then possibly end up back out on the streets some day. This has gone through at least a couple professionals to analyze his mental state and I suspect his defense has tried to plea deal claiming he's NCR. Obviously the Crown isn't biting because they know he does not fit the NCR category and they want him to have the maximum sentence possible....and so do I regardless of his mental state.
Myself and many people would like to know his motive. From day one I suspected it was a lover's triangle or paternity issues. Now with the trial I am sensing that DS is nothing but a sexual, sadistic, deviant. Although a rape test was done on Hanne that doesn't mean he didn't rape or sexually violate her. My theory is he chose H as his next victim because the elderly lady did not satisfy him as he hoped, perhaps she put up too much of a struggle or not enough.
To get at H he had to do away with her daddy T. Remember he said T was in bed but still awake when he entered the house. Did he plan on sneaking into the house and leaving with little H but then found T awake in bed and couldn't pull it off so he murdered him to get to H? He could have murdered H right there in the house but he didn't because in my opinion he had plans of raping her before murdering and incinerating her. He took her on dark secluded roads to his family's acreage. How long was it from the time he took her from her crib until he arrived at the acreage? I hope LE can put a timeline on that because it might answer the motive question that DS was asked when taken into police custody...if the devil made him have sex with ?. IMO I believe he did and that is why he burned her body, to cover up the evidence. IMO he is not delusional, schizoid or insane but I'm not a psychiatrist and didn't interview him obviously and I am looking forward to hearing from that professional. The fact that on one hand he said the devil was talking to him and then it was God and they were both telling him to do bad things. At one point he says the devil made him turn H into ashes and then later he said God guided his path telling him where to burn H's remains. So which was it? Where did he murder H? A liar can never keep his story straight. Then he said he can't remember certain details but then comes out with those details. Example: DS said he didn't remember anything about killing T but then goes into detail of how he hit him with the crowbar, choked him with a rope and slit his throat. Then the biggie trying to convince the officer he's NCR...Derek tells McCauley he doesn't want to be put in a straight jacket. And to throw a real doozy into his story trying to be convincing, DS mentions cannibalism....staged with the book found in his apartment.
To me he's nothing but a liar trying to role play insanity, he's pure evil and I think the two female murders were sexually motivated. I don't even know if the Crown will bring such a theory into this trial because in actuality what they have for evidence is suffice, a slam dunk in locking this up for the rest of his life. I guess the facts will come out when a psychiatrist takes the stand on whether DS is insane but at this point I'm not buying it. Again JMO.
Praying for justice for the three victims of this senseless act of evil and may they rest in peace. My heartfelt condolences goes out to the loved one of Hanne, Terry and Hailey. Justice will be served. May the rest of your life be filled with shame, sorrow, regret and pain in prison Derek. You deserve nothing better. ALL MOO.
