Yes, I am sure that the police have already done a good deal of homework. Once they learned the man's name, it wouldn't be long before they found out when he went missing, who his "friends" were, if there was any connection between anyone he knew and the location where his body was found.

Seems his identity may’ve been known by the RCMP for quite some time if the current investigation has been ongoing within the past two years.

yes, but they’d issue a news article before the press release :)

More often than not the media publish a report copying the information contained in the press release.

If a spokesperson from the RCMP is to take questions from the media, I can’t find anywhere that’s being reported.
 
Pres releases are usually embargoed until a certain time. For example, the press release may not occur until 1:30 along with any press conference.

No announcement of any scheduled live streaming PC by CBC either, unfortunately.
