"Right now, the OPP is holding him on the grounds of the Amber Alert that was issued from the Sûreté du Québec," Carolle Dionne, spokesperson for Ontario provincial police told CBC.

Dionne said that the bail hearing will determine if the father will be kept in custody or released. She said he would likely be remanded for another bail hearing, in person. It could be in Ontario or Quebec.

If his case is to be handled by the Quebec justice system, he will likely be transported back to the province Monday or Tuesday.

"I'm aware that the Sûreté du Québec may have charges that will be a higher priority than ours," Dionne said.

[h=2]Boy with Quebec's youth protection services[/h] The six-year-old at the centre of the Amber Alert was transferred to youth protection services in Quebec around midnight Friday.

Dionne said the boy was in the care of child services in Ontario before being transferred back to Quebec by the Sûreté du Québec and the province's youth protection services, the Directeur de la protection de la jeunesse (DPJ).

She said the DPJ will determine what will happen to the boy next.

Following court appearance in Ontario, UF will be transported back to Quebec some time today or tonight to face charges.

Both his & L's name are now being withheld.

      Stéphan Parent, a filmmaker who worked with the man arrested in Ontario for the kidnapping of a six-year-old boy, and who knew the man and his wife well, said no one could have predicted the tragic events even if everyone in their entourage hoped their unhealthy relationship would end.

      The day before the boy’s mother was killed, Parent spoke to the father whose actions sparked an Amber Alert that had police in two provinces on his trail.
      “He was going to couples therapy. The next day, I didn’t hear from him. When the Amber Alert appeared, I tried to reach him, but to no avail,” said Parent, adding he would never have imagined his friend capable of such a thing.
      “I never saw him hit his son or his wife. Yes, he could be impulsive and yell. He could hit the counter, but to commit a murder? Never!” he said, in total shock and disbelief."

      What Parent can’t understand is how the person who sparked a search that ended in Ontario could be a nice, helpful person but also a manipulator. Parent had even begun to distance himself from his long-time friend after having seen changes in his behaviour.

      “When I see the timeline of events, to see everything he put his son through instead of leaving him somewhere. He’s only thinking of himself, he’s only thinking of his own welfare. He was always trying to force people into doing something for his own benefit,” he said.

The article also mentions that the family are receiving updates, & discussing what's best to be done once he gets back to Qc. They don't yet know details/what decisions will have to be made. For the moment they are just impatient to see and hug him.

Barb Friske and her husband John watched the chase from their home. She said they heard someone burst into their backyard and when they went outside they saw helicopters overhead and police coming up the street.

Officers yelled at them to get back inside and they watched the rest unfold from their window.

"He had the young lad, dragging him. That's when I got scared," Friske told Radio-Canada. "Because I didn't care what they did to him, like, don't hurt the young lad."

She said officers used a stun gun on Fredette then brought the boy, who was distressed and crying, into her home. She offered him some sweets to make him feel better, which he accepted.

Ugo Fredette, suspect in Quebec Amber Alert, accused of second-degree murder in woman's death
Fredette, also arrested in connection with abducted 6-year-old, remains in hospital after suicide attempt

The charge was filed by Quebec prosecutors in Saint-Jérôme court Monday while Fredette remains in an Ottawa hospital after sustaining injuries in custody. He is expected to be arraigned Wednesday if his condition permits transfer into Quebec custody.

Police said Monday Fredette was injured as the result of a suicide attempt. His condition has stabilized and he could be transferred over to the Sûreté du Québec as early as this afternoon.
