From what I've read, she was home schooled, lived in a small town and the only job opportunities were very limited. She seems to have been a bored teen who was smitten by JB and his 'dogma'. I think she is reacting as if she is under the spell of a cult. Good luck getting her out of THAT frame of mind. Does she even consider the children or has he got that covered too??

Sadly, I don't think it will be too long before he breaks his bail conditions.

I don’t think she *wants* to be helped. If she reached out for help, then maybe someone would help.

That’s interesting that if a child’s parent is convicted of a crime the other parent can legally leave the country with the child. I was always under the impression that you need written, notarized consent.
Reports to date do indeed seem to indicate, alas, that she doesn't want to be helped. Journalists who pursued her before current injunctions reported her as being socially focused on Muslim women's home-schooling groups, which doesn't augur well for her or the children. But many weeks have passed since then, and one can hope that she and her children might yet emerge from the mental tunnel of oppression they've been living in.

He was granted bail! WTHay! I have been at work so much that I couldn't check on the decision of the bail hearing not even to watch the local news. I was hoping that he would remain in jail, I really did. I hope Caitlin has left the apartment she shared with him and the kids and has relocated. I will be going back to read the posts on this thread since Friday but before I do, big thank you to all that have posted.

You’re taking the word “household” very literally. If her parents don’t claim her and the kids as dependents on their taxes, their income has nothing to do with whether or not Caitlin and the kids would be eligible. Just because they live in the same house doesn’t mean anything. I lived with my best friend, would her income effect my ability to receive aid? No. So why would living with her parents make Caitlin ineligible?

Who’s included in your household
I worked with families in poverty. Everyone’s income is to be reported. If you did not, you were in violation if someone was receiving aid.

Posting news articles concerning conditions of bail...I noticed one article did not include all the conditions..just wanted to have them all together.

Former Afghanistan hostage Joshua Boyle granted bail
Former Afghanistan hostage Joshua Boyle granted bail

Under the release conditions, Boyle will live with his parents, Patrick and Linda, in Smiths Falls, Ont. -- effectively under house arrest -- and wear a GPS ankle bracelet that can track his movements.

Boyle and each of his parents must post a $10,000 bond. Patrick and Linda will serve as sureties and one of them must accompany their son if he leaves the property.

Boyle will be allowed to visit Ottawa with one of his parents only to see a doctor, consult his lawyers or to attend court. He must continue receiving psychiatric treatment and cannot possess a weapon or use the internet.

A trial date is slated to be set on June 15, when Boyle is due back in court.

Former hostage Joshua Boyle to be released on bail

Boyle will reside with his parents in Smiths Falls under strict conditions and will be placed under house arrest with GPS ankle bracelet monitoring.

Boyle must post $10,000 bond for bail and his parents must post $10,000 each, the judge ordered.
He must surrender his passport, must not have access to the internet and must not communicate with victims or their relatives.

That is for health insurance, not food stamps. And when someone receives TANF, including money gifts kids get for birthday gifts is required. This is taxpayer money. There is accountability.

I have my doubts about the bail conditions...no internet, how about a cellphone/smartphone? or did I miss that.
In one of the news reports it states that he cannot contact his victims or their relatives. The amount of money varies on who is reporting also.
One report states each parent must sign a $10,000 bond which makes bail $20K, doesn't it?? Then another states that JB also had to put up $10K??
Most state that his parents are his surety, so I will go with $20,000 bail.

Reading between the lines, his sexual assault vic was not his mother and AFAIK there were only two women in his life.

Bears10, I share your concerns. This is far too lenient IMO. Hope nothing else goes wrong. He didn't respect his parents help before, why would he now??

I agree , this seems too lenient...

Your link is for the health insurance marketplace. That is different than food stamps. Food stamps are the SNAP program. There is TANF which is the former welfare program. All of these are different programs.

I posted another link regarding food stamps. Parents income is only considered if they purchase and prepare meals together. I’ve said it like 3 times. I actually live in the US and not far from PA. Please refer to the multiple links I’ve posted instead of fear mongering about how terrible the US is. Thanks.

I hate to belabor the point but I posted the info about SNAP. I actually worked with people in poverty for 30 years in the US. Everyone’s income was reported.

The laws have been made even more stringent now. People cannot live with their rich relatives and collect food stamps. Think about it. If your unemployed kid with two granchildren lived in your 20 room mansion, do you think your kid would get food stamps?

I mean you’ve said many times that you live in a third world county and are a teacher so maybe things have change since you’ve lived here???

No matter what is available in the US vs Canada, I still do not think she will have the fortitude to leave JB. He has control of her, totally. IMO

Exactly

Yes. I retired to a Third World Country in 2012.There is less available in the US than when I left the US. The changes in health care availability and the rules for SNAP have changed. There is even less for people.

Oh, maybe that is why our Unemployment rates are now at record lows?

There are lots of jobs at convenience stores. Since she has no training, she would have to get one of those many types of jobs with no benefits that are available in the US.

To me, it seems highly unlikely she would leave Canada for a lesser life in the US.

you are obviously very set in your ways regarding your negative perception of the US, so it seems pointless to continue this conversation. Imo if she’s not leaving Canada, it isn’t because she will have a “lesser life” in the US. It’s because she’s brainwashed.

Are women in the Quiverfull group brainwashed? How about the Duggars? Are they brainwashed? They do what the husband says
