Christie Blatchford: Neutrality of Crown witness questioned at start of Joshua Boyle trial

Christie Blatchford: Neutrality of Crown witness questioned at start of Joshua Boyle trial

..
Deborah Sinclair, a social worker-*advertiser censored*-feminist-activist Crown prosecutors want to have qualified as an expert in domestic violence and trauma.

A tidbit from Sinclair’s 19-page report prepared for the Crown notes that among the materials prosecutors gave her to use in her report is a “list of Rules and Script for the Media” that was discovered during a search of the couples apartment and which allegedly was written by Joshua Boyle.

I’m back at the Elgin Street courthouse where we will hear more of Caitlan Coleman’s testimony in the Joshua Boyle assault trial. On Wednesday, Coleman described her relationship with Boyle leading up to their capture in 2012. Listen to @1310NEWS for updates #ottnews

"Coleman says that the last two years of captivity Boyle became very physically abusive. She also added he was also physical before captivity. If she argued or didn’t do what Boyle said, Coleman says he would hit her #ottnews"

I hope CC and her lawyers case can emphasize to the Judge how JB's character and treatment of her, BEFORE they went to Central Asia was later kidnapped, was already abusive.
I think JB's side will say he only acted this way because of the captivity.

I haven't heard when CC's mother and sisters, the neighbour, and the Global Affairs Canada member who was on the flight back with them will testify.

Coleman is describing an incident where her and Boyle got into an argument and she claims he hit her and pushed her on the the sofa while she was carrying her baby in a holder #ottnews

She says she noticed blood on the child’s head and when she cleaned it up Coleman says she realized the blood was from her lip #ottnews

Coleman testifies that a week after the shower incident described in her Wednesday testimony, they had another argument about something. "He became very angry at me for disagreeing and started to hit me on the face."

"He had made it clear to me for years that I was never to disagree with him on anything, even small things."

There has been twitter silence for about 1- 2 hours from the 3 reporters covering the trial. Curious, 2 of the reporters tweets that I posted earlier are no longer available. Unsure why, other than they may have been deleted?

That's really weird. Were reporters forced to delete tweets that involved a child?

yes, weird.
Since cameras are not allowed in Canadian courts according to the Justice Act we can only rely on the journalists to report.
The earlier tweets had only to do with CC recounting how JB abused her.
There hasn't been any mention, thus far, about the charges against the 2nd victim.

UPDATE: Tweets from 1 reporter has been posted
CC has been recounting details of her sexual assault

At least 1 local station, CBC Ottawa, is on live with one of its reporters ( David Therton) at the court house.
Reporter is saying:
CC has testified that JB wanted to do a sexual act, that she wasn't comfortable with, told him this, JB got upset, knocked her to the ground and told her to go into the bedroom and take off her clothes.

This afternoon: expecting that CC will continue to testify, not expecting cross examination today
Belief is that Defense intends to poke holes into CC's and other witness testimony next week

Joshua Boyle trial: Caitlan Coleman testifies about forced sex, bondage

Joshua Boyle trial: Caitlan Coleman testifies about forced sex, bondage March 29, 2019

Coleman testified that on the night of Nov. 27, 2017, Boyle became angry when she told him she didn’t want to have anal sex.
“It was something he expressed to me he wanted and that he had a right to have with me,” she told court Friday.

“I wasn’t resisting him,” said Coleman. “I was very scared of him so I was just doing what he was telling me to do.”

Boyle kept ropes and other BDSM paraphernalia in a bag beside the bed. He bound Coleman’s wrists behind her back and tied her ankles together — she’s not sure if she was blindfolded — but after intercourse, he refused to untie her restraints.

“I think I might have asked him, ‘Why?’ He explained that he couldn’t trust me; that I would leave if he untied me. I started crying and I think I was pleading with him to untie me.”

On Nov. 27, Coleman says she argued with Boyle when he demanded anal sex then threatened to take the children and leave him. Boyle, she said, hit her and sent her to the ground when she walked towards the door.

Coleman says her husband left her tied up after a BDSM session; she had to escape from her restraints after he fell asleep.

In mid-December, Coleman said, after she again refused anal sex, Boyle struck her in the face with what she thinks was a closed fist. " you," he said, according to Coleman.

"It hurt, but it wasn't the hardest he ever hit me," Coleman told court.

They were released from captivity in October 0f 2017, so this crime occurred on Canadian soil. Lock him up.

I read on WS where women actually choose to be kept in a cage, for instance. They wear dog collars and are on a leash.

I look at a male that would treat a woman like that as abusive.

Some women choose that . My point is that it is too bad that he did not find someone who agreed with that lifestyle even though I find it sad

Yes, there are men and women who chose that lifestyle, but it revolves around consent. There are BDSM clubs in Ottawa.

If one researches such clubs they state they are an open, inclusive and safe environment. one club I read about offers workshops to make sure that the members are safe, sane, consensual and informed about the lifestyle.

IMO
Reading the reports of her testimony, JB is abusive.
Consent and individual freedom/equal rights seems to mean nothing to him where his wife is concerned.
Even in Dom/Sub and BDSM relationships consent is extremely important.

JB wants his wife to be subservient to him in all aspects of life because it is her duty to obey him.
If he wants to perform a sexual act it is her duty to obey him and do as she is told.

IMHO
