It's widely reported that the LISK stopped calling Amanda, Melissa Barthelemy's sister, using Melissa's phone shortly after a Buffalo TV station broke the story about the calls.

Does anyone know the name of the Buffalo station and the exact date they broke this story? Has anyone come across anything like this in their research?

If I were LE, I would research suspects with Petty Crimes related cell phones, some who has stolen women's phones, someone who was arrested and had a whole bunch of phones on him or has stolen burner phones. I was thinking about how often SKs start off by breaking into people's houses and stealing women's underwear. I think phones are his fetish. If I were a betting woman, I would say that in his youth he made prank calls and masturbated. I also think he gets his jollies by looking at the pictures on his victim's phones.

Definitely anyone with a whole stash of stolen burner phones should be looked at carefully. I also agree that the SK enjoys looking through the photos. That's probably what he used as reference when he talked to the victims' family/Terry - I think he got all his info on tattoos, ethnicity, relationship dynamics, etc. from digging into the photos either on or linked to the phone.

Gah! The underwear thing. Is that true? In the quiet country-ish house I grew up in someone broke in and stole only my mother's and her two daughters' underwear. A few years later someone came into the wooded backyard and stole all our underwear off the clothesline, which was completely invisible from the road. ((shiver))

Here's something I didn't know before!

I was just looking through an old New York Post article about the LISK (from 2011), and it stated that in addition to phoning Amanda Barthelemy, he had sent her text messages as well. The article states: "The killer always phoned in the evenings, spoke briefly and in a low voice — and only to Amanda. He calmly spewed taunts and allegations. He sent text messages."

I have been following this case for a few years now, but this is the first time I have heard about text messages from LISK to Amanda Barthelemy. Has anybody here heard about this before, and do we know anything about the messages themselves (how many there were, what they said, when they were sent, etc.)?

Was LE physically in possesion of Ambers card? If so, where did they get it. If not, where did they get her medicaid # that listed Davids address?

Well first off I wouldn't put stock in anything Kill says. But on the slight chance that tale is true, it doesn't sound like they had her card but instead checked out a medicaid database or file that had her address listed. How was Amber identified? Was she reported missing?

The burner phone and the min had to be bought some how...some way.
I know there isn't much we can do or anyone really but wouldn't police at least be able to narrow down where the phone or min to put on the phone were bought at. I think that'd say a lot about him.

I have wondered this myself. Burner phones are not 100% safe from trace tactics. If minutes were purchased for the cell phone, the cellular provider should be able to determine the location where the minutes were purchased (unless they were purchased via phone or internet?)

Once LE has the location information, they can request the video surveillance footage from that location to see who purchased them. That is, of course, assuming LE follows this potential trail in a timely fashion--before the footage is erased or taped over with newer footage.

That's how LE found the perp who kidnapped a physical therapist for ransom in Vallejo, CA last year. He left his burner phone behind by mistake, LE was able to trace its purchase to a nearby Target store, viewed the camera footage, and subsequently determined his identity and he was arrested. It always baffles me when people assume that burner phones can't be traced.

LE made an effort to catch MB's killer when he called Amanda from different locations in Manhattan. I hope their efforts INCLUDED obtaining video footage from the bridges that take you from the Bx. to Queens. LE should know how MB traveled to LI. Her phone would have pinged off of the towers. Including the time each ping hit one. The same thing applies to MBB. I hope the NYPD did not drop the ball.

Hawk, your right. LE knows more about phones, pings, and towers than the general public. I hope LE has video footage from the bridge. A math wiz from the FBI can narrow down which cars passed the camera during a certain time frame. This could help if the NYPD actually obtained the footage.

I also think if Le knows exactly where the calls came from, like within 50 feet, its ******** that there are "too many people on cellphones". Go through them one by one if you've got years and years mr pig! Stand on the corner outside penn and look at everyone on a cellphone....if you had enough time you could figure out who was making the calls. But if they only know the calls from penn and no idea which corner/side/part then ok

If Amber's remains were dumped along with her wallet and Medicaid card, that could be how they figured out who she was, since she was never reported missing. That is, if this Medicaid card information is true. It's only popped up on the board recently and I haven't seen anyone cite a source for it.

The NYPD and the FBI may have worked together on MB case. A missing girl + calls made to her family might have been enough to get the Feds involved.

There was at least one of the solar powered mobile cam trailers on OP by Oak Beach for almost a whole summer. I can't recall what year though. If was definitely after the girls were found but I don't know if it was before or after Natasha.

Even having a camera of all cars going onto or leaving OP from the bridges which I assume they might, they should have been able to get the tags of everyone's car the night natasha went missing from Queens.

I would wager that you (a person driving a car) is on at least one camera going over the draw bridge as well as the first bridge. Plus there have to be traffic cameras on OP somewhere. There aren't exactly a lot of ways off that piece of land. You either go up RM Causeway towards west islip or west on OP towards the meadowbrook or Wantagh. That's it.
