I noticed that Amy is exactly the same age as my son and that she graduated from the same university that he did (Eastern Michigan) and probably at about the same time. I wonder if he knew her. (Its a big school though.) Her family lives in the Detroit area, only about 60 miles from where we live. I sure hope she is found safe. There have just been too many tragic crimes being committed against women recently. It would be great to get good news in this case. I hope and pray that a miracle will happen and she will come home safe and well.

On a White Pride forum a man is posting that Amy is his best friend's girlfriend's sister. The guy says he is from Detroit and said that Amy was/is a beautiful girl and a great person. On a google search, I pulled up a 2010 resume of Amy's listing her education, employment, and career goals if it interests anyone. It has her current address on it.

This article says:

Ahonen put an ad on Craigslist in February and March looking for a roommate, according to her close friend Kacey Wilkins.
Ahonen met two men who were potential roommates at her condo's community room, Wilkins said.

So maybe there is another Craigslist guy (or maybe two showed up at once, it's unclear).

Also says LE is looking at traffic cameras from near her condo to try to determine whether she was alone when she left in her car.

I think the odds are that whatever happened to Amy likely happened where her car is, but I also wonder if somebody could have known Amy often went to the Clear Creek area and took her car there after committing some sort of crime against her. Maybe he left the car there to throw investigators off the track. The area where Amy's car was found is relatively remote so you'd think there would have to be another vehicle involved if this happened. We have seen people abducted and cars left in out of the way places before, most notably to me was Mackenzie Cowell.

Someone, I forget who, sister or roommate or friend, said it was one of her favorite places to go. It was back upthread, I'll have to see if I can find it.

The woman's sister, Andrea Ahonen, said Highway 6 is one of Amy's favorite scenic drives. But Amy didn't show up for work Friday night at Red Lobster, and that wasn't like her, the sister said.

Might explain why she had begun looking for a roommate which led to her placing an ad on Craigslist... which led to her being contacted by the man who upset her so...

Does anyone know when the ad was placed and what date it was removed?

No one thats worried about being laid off is going to skip a busy night of the week at a job at Red Lobster, jmo. For her jeep to be tagged at 10 pm. and her shift probably started at 3 to 11pm? Thats a big head start. Too bad no one knows for sure. Fishy, especially the craigslist ad and a guy with a prior history. Too sad...I am in NE WYO and have never heard about this or seen it any papers around my area. I will post it on my FB.

Thanks! I had seen that and wanted to comment about it and then somehow forgot. I guess maybe one could argue she could have felt safe(r) out there so she didn't always lock her doors, but having something like that ingrained in you from growing up it's a hard act to break.

We went for a family reunion camping trip a few weeks ago. A 2 hour drive up into the canyon, into a second canyon, then into a side canyon and into a private campground. The only people for a mile were all family members. (And the felons were not even there.) :innocent:

Every.single.time. I went to the truck to get anything... a drink... a camera battery... a change of clothes... I locked the truck. (Partly so no kids will get locked inside it but mostly because it's what I do.)

The lights flash every time you lock it. I got teased SO much for locking the truck every single time.

I do the same thing if I just stop in the mountains to get out to take a picture.

It's a habit. I am a creature of habit. I dislike change.

Was Amy like that?
Was she the type who NEVER forgot to lock her car?
Or was she just paranoid about it in more populated areas?

I would have left all my stuff in the vehicle if I was using the little girls room on the side of the road (such emergency stops happen!). I do wonder if she fell into the water. I would leave my keys in the car out of fear of dropping them in the grass, especially if removing clothes for the pitstop. Wouldn't take my phone either.

Now of course, I would probably only venture to the other side of the car if traffic was sparse enough and not into the grass embankment.....

Do we know how far from facilities she was in either direction? Or how far from her destination she may have been?

TAYLOR: Friends, family hold on to hope as search for former resident continues in Colorado

Amy Ahonen, 38, has been missing since July 8 from Golden, Colo., just outside Denver.

Ahonen graduated from Taylor Kennedy High School and attended college at Eastern Michigan University.

Her friends and family Downriver are doing all they can to help find her, though they’re nearly 1,300 miles away.

Ahonen was scheduled to show up at her hostess job at a Denver area Red Lobster at 6 p.m. July 8. She didn’t show up, which was the first red flag.

The next day was her birthday, but none of the calls and messages to her from friends and family were answered or returned.

Just to clarify, she was laid off from her previous job as a designer, she wasn't said to be worried about being laid off from Red Lobster.

I wonder how far in actual distance the area where the casinos is? I saw from someone who lives in the area, that the casinos are about a 30 minute drive. Does that mean it's like 25 or 30 miles?

LE should broadcast this case and ask that anyone driving that road the day Amy disappeared from say 1:00 p.m. until 10:00p.m., IF they picked up someone along this road to contact them. Or, if they saw someone walking out on this road that day during the specified time, to call them.

They should find out what bus lines travel that area and contact them to check with their drivers and see if anyone picked up a pedestrian during the specified time.

Interesting,

Approximately 18-20 miles from where the car was found. The map started at downtown Golden.

Now there are also RTD bus stops in the general area. It might be good to check out where those bus stops are closest to where the car was found.

I don't see any bus stops that I would call close. There isn't an RTD route that goes up Highway 6 to Central City/Blackhawk. The closest bus stop is near Genesee, which is a pretty long way away. To get there from where Amy's car was found you'd have to continue along 6 to I-70 then, go back down I-70 towards Denver, so maybe 6-7 miles or more from where her car was found. Here is the RTD map:

http://www3.rtd-denver.com/elbert/SystemMap/

The buses that go to gambling in Central City/Blackhawk are run by private companies and leave from heavily populated areas in Denver so they don't stop anywhere near where her car was found.

I agree that more of an effort should be made to find out if anybody travelling on Highway 6 saw anything unusual that afternoon. Hopefully LE has talked to casino bus drivers about it.

Anyone know the distance between where her car was found and the Red L. where she worked? Would she have had time to get back to start her shift at 6pm?
I believe someone on the find Amy Facebook page questioned this...

Good question. The furthest Red Lobster is the one in Aurora. It's about an hour drive. There is traffic on a Friday afternoon but she would have been going against the congestion going towards Denver, then would have gotten in more traffic heading from Denver towards Aurora so it would have probably evened out at not more than an hour and a half at the most.

Red Lobster is set up so that every waitress has one table to wait on and only one table of guest at a time. If there are 25 tables in the restaurant there are 25 waitresses. It would not be hard to have "regulars" that you became familiar with, as it is a more one on one establishment, great money there as it is an upper scale dining.
