I haven't been on Websleuths in a long time, but knew to come here for info about this missing child. I've read the whole thread, but am wondering if the neighborhood where David lives is in town? If he were able you'd think if any houses or people were around that he would have been spotted at some point. It's not common to see six year olds out wandering around alone, and surely he would have eventually realized he were lost. Do they think he could be in the woods or in town?
This area is definitely what I would call "in town" and open spaces nearby would also not be considered "woods" like we think of it. Trees are fewer and spaced further apart and have lost their leaves by now. What we do have are creeks, crevices, underbrush and limbs that never decay because it's so dry.... places a child could duck under for warmth.

I understand your reasoning but struggle with agreeing. Amber alerts are rare because it is rare for children to be abducted. In the majority of cases, it is someone close to the child and often unrelated to an abduction when a child goes missing. If amber alerts are issued immediately for every missing child report, they will risk losing the urgency factor and risk increasing community fear unnecessarily.

In this case, I'm wondering if the have additional info that points to possible abduction they aren't releasing. I also still wonder if there is more to the story in regards to family history.

Maybe they need to put in place a "David Alert" (in the future) in the area the child goes missing but not feared abducted so neighbors will go outside and look around, pronto. The area can then be expanded if not found.

Where I am, west of Aurora, it is snowing like crazy this morning and COLD. This wasn't supposed to happen today. :(

This is not really here nor there, but from talking with a close friend who is a member of the APD last night, I learned that the CBI's definition of an "abducted" child (in relation to the criteria required to be met for an AA) is different than most states and rather vague.

CBI criteria:
Once law enforcement has been notified about an abducted child, they must first determine if the case meets the AMBER Plan criteria:
  1. The abducted child must be 17 years of age or younger;
  2. The abducted child must be in immediate danger of serious bodily harm or death;
  3. There must be enough descriptive information available to believe a broadcast will assist or aid in the recovery;
  4. The activation must be requested by a local law enforcement agency or AMBER Designee from another state.

CBI definition of an "abducted" child
“Abducted Child” - means a child whose whereabouts are unknown, whose domicile at the time he or she was reported missing was Colorado, whose age at the time he or she was first reported missing was seventeen years of age or younger, and whose disappearance poses a credible threat as determined bylocal law enforcement to the safety and health of the child.

According to this definition, David does qualify as being labeled an abducted child (as no where does it say the child has to have been "taken" by a person, known or unknown.)

Learned of this little guy a few hours ago and just caught up. My first thought was if he received any $$ of gift cards for the holidays and was eager to spend them. Would LE have asked those questions and maybe looked at surveillance from his favorite stores?

The weather and length of time he's been missing are so concerning.

"Vehicles leaving the south Aurora neighborhood at the center of the search were stopped at checkpoints, while bloodhounds were working and federal agents canvassed the area."
...
"A command center has been set up at David's school, Dartmouth Elementary. On Tuesday morning, officers were stopping vehicles in front of the school, looking in trunks and asking if anyone has seen the boy."

I really don't have a good feeling about this :( If he wandered off of his own accord and was still alive he would have been found by now, and if he had crawled in to a small space I would have thought blood hounds would have found him. I can only hope for a good outcome

""We are obviously very concerned it's very cold," McCoy said.
Doctors said with overnight temperature hitting as low as 12 degrees, hypothermia can set in as quickly as 15 to 20 minutes."**
...
"Despite a continued lack of new leads law enforcement says it has not expanded its search area.
However, they did begin looking more in depth at the Cherry Creek Reservoir and other waterways in the area.
"At this time we're still following up on leads to verify them," McCoy said."
...
"Even though police say there is no danger to other families the Aurora Public Schools District will have extra security Wednesday morning as a precaution as kids go back to school after the break."

This reminds me of when those 3 young boys were thought to have wandered off, they were missing for days and they were searching in a huge radius. Turns out they were playing and locked themselves in the trunk of their parents cars and did not survive the extreme heat wave they were having at the time.

They need to be looking EVERYWHERE for this little guy. It's very possible that he is close by. Have they checked trunks, rvs, and sheds? Crawl spaces? The attic? He could be stuck somewhere IN the house. I don't know but I'm thinking my theory is more plausible than a kidnapping at this point.

A fight with an older sibling could have ended with David deceased. I guess it's too late for this to be considered.

The bloodhounds found no trail, at all?

Do they have a septic system, or wells on their land?

Also from your link:

"David Puckett disappeared from his home in the 15700 block of Amherst Avenue around 5:30 p.m. New Year’s Eve. Some family members were home, McCoy said. She did not disclose who was there."

Those last 2 sentences really make me wonder what they know that isn't being disclosed. It's been said that mom was home. It's been said that grandma was there watching the kids while mom was at work. It's been said dad is in prison. It's been sad info about dad is unknown. So what is it?!? Who was there? Clear as mud to me! I wonder why that info isn't being clarified.

It was reported that he had a fight with a sibling and climbed out the window. If that's true, I don't think he went shopping. I think it was more of a temper tantrum and he just took off because he was mad. I'd like to know the circumstances surrounding the other times he wandered away from home.

Lots of places to go. Lots of parks, sheds, hides holes in the neighborhood.
