I finally got to listen to the judge's sentencing. Truly amazing! Just mic drop after mic drop.
When my partner woke up (trial has been middle of the night my local time), I found it on YouTube and loaded it up on our telly so we could watch it together. It was more obvious to me the second time around just how deeply emotional he was. His voice sounds tight, and breaks a few times. I think at one point he might have wiped his eyes. I honestly think he had a little cry outside the courtroom while he was composing himself after the witness statements before sentencing. He just looked wrecked (comparative to his calm and composure throughout the most appalling evidence and testimony over the weeks of trial).

MOO

Judge was definitely emotionally exhausted for sure. He wiped his eyes multiple times during LH and Al's victim impact statements and then needed that 10 mins to compose himself before speaking directly to Letecia. His humanity is probably what makes him so good at his job.

Letecia had no reaction, as expected. Although, I did catch her scoffing at Al when he spoke of HH and how Letecia had treated her. She is completely devoid of empathy, and as the judge so excellently put it, has showed zero remorse.

During the victim impact statements I watched the defense. They generally sat back and seemed unmoved. While I expect them to keep a 'stiff upper lip' for their defendant, and I absolutely respect the importance of a strong defense for a fair judicial system, I wondered if I might catch a trembling lip. Instead I saw them often leaning way back in their chairs with their hands/thumbs intertwined. I guess I thought they would generally be sitting up, with hands clasped on the table, showing respect and recognizing the gravity of the victims' statements. But maybe that's just me.

I haven't had time to follow the trial in detail, but I did watch the judge's sentencing comments. He seemed like a real human being and he called Leticia out for using 'mental health' as an excuse. He defended people struggling with mental health issues and he cut her no slack. Good on him!

I have been appalled at Mr Cooks behaviour especially throughout this trial, but I did notice his face during the victim impact statements and he looked devastated, and I'm sure at one point he was crying. This doesn't redeem him for me, but I did see it.
Mr Tolini looked uncomfortable, and when Gannons great uncle talked about the use of the insanity plea, he looked ashamed, as i believe he should have. All JMO.

I'm wondering if any of the prosecution's witnesses were present for sentencing today. Can anyone prove the rumor true that Jonny Grusing was sited in the house today?

I can't tell, but I did take a screenshot of the gallery (I was looking for Harley). Could Mr Grusing be seated right at the back on the prosecution side?

WOW! That was the most powerful impact statements that I have heard & Judge Werner - just the greatest judge in delivering a sentence!! :D

And I hope you all do not mind if I post this one last time...

5/8/23 Monday, Trial Day 21/Jury Deliberations Day 2: Verdict Reached!
The jury had 2 questions. 1) Can we have an index list of all exhibits.
They have two lists, one of all exhibits, one of admitted exhibits.
2) Can we have both a preliminary & final report from Dr. Lewis.
Judge's proposed response is expert reports are not introduce as evidence in a trial. Allen said they were not admitted as evidence.
Jury started deliberations at ~9am & reached a verdict at ~1pm.
Murder-1st degree - after deliberation - Guilty
Murder-1st degree - child under 12 position of trust - Guilty
Tampering w/ a deceased human body - Guilty
Tampering w/ physical evidence - Guilty
Impact statements by Nicole Mobley, former neighbor of Stauch & community member who helped coordinate searches & other things. Gannon's great uncle Jeff Davenport, Gannon's great aunt Veronica Birkenstock. Bob Rogers, Gannon's Grandfather. Debra Pierce, Gannon's grandmother. Landon Hiott Bullard, Gannon's mother. Al Stauch, Gannon's father. Al asked the judge that Letecia Stauch be stripped of his last name, saying it has been “infuriating” to hear her referred to as “Ms. Stauch.” DA Michael Allen & asked Judge Werner to dismiss the outstanding escape charge case against the Murderer in order to get her sentenced & serving time ASAP.
Letecia is not going to make a statement, on the advice of counsel, according to Tolini. Defense attorney Tolini is requesting LS be sentenced to Women's DOC located in Pueblo & Judge refused to make a recommendation -- this is the determination by DOC & not the Court.
Judge Werner sentenced her to life in prison with no parole plus 13.5 years. (LWOP for both murder charges, 12 years +3 years parole for tampering with deceased human body consecutive with counts 1 & 2 & 18 months tampering physical evidence consecutive). Stauch remanded to the custody of the Colorado Dept. of Corrections. Case is dismissed.

Yes, Mr. Cook cried. He grabbed a tissue, wiped his eyes, and blew his nose as well.
I find it difficult to reconcile with a couple days before, but it is LS who is the evil one. That she is dangerously able to manipulate, I have no doubt. She’ll always be trouble and anyone in her orbit will, to some extent, be drawn in.
JMO

Nope.

It was nice to reach a point, finally, where she had nothing whatsoever to say for herself.

MOO
She's a coward, can't handle the real confrontation where she isn't in control. I mean she did do an entire news interview backwards..who does that?

A narcissist lying, liar who lies that's who.

Facility Security Levels

An offender’s custody classification determines his or her facility placement. The DOC places inmates according to their assessed custody level in an appropriate facility based on its security level.

Prior to May 24, 2000, an inmate was placed in a facility according to his or her assessed classification level, which matched the facility’s custody classification level. After May 24, 2000, each facility was designated a security level that was defined in statute.

The following paragraphs describe the main external and internal measures differentiating the five security levels of prison facilities in Colorado, from the highest to lowest levels.

Correctional Facility Security Levels – External Measures Internal MeasuresLevel V
  • Double perimeter fencing with razor wire and detection devices
  • Towers or stun-lethal fencing
  • Continuous patrol of perimeter
  • Sally ports (double gates to closely monitor the movement to and from a restricted area)
  • Housing in cells with bars on all openings and with sally-port doors to outside operated by a control center
  • Remote controlled sliding and lockable cell doors
Level IV
  • Double perimeter fencing and/or razor wire with detection devices
  • Towers
  • Continuous patrol of perimeter
  • Housing in cells with bars on all openings
  • Remote controlled hinged or sliding cell doors that are lockable from the control area
Level III
  • Wall and/or double perimeter fencing with razor wire and detection devices
  • Towers
  • Continuous patrol of perimeter
  • Housing in cells, rooms, or dormitories with bars on window openings
  • Hinged lockable cell doors
Level II
  • Designated boundaries with single or double perimeter fencing
  • Periodic patrol of perimeter
  • Housing in modular units, cells, or dormitories
  • Hinged cell doors with lockable exterior doors
Level I
  • Designated boundaries
  • Housing in individual rooms or dormitories
  • Non-security cell doors with lockable exterior doors
IMO her escape attempts and assault on the officer should warrant keeping her in a Level 5 facility for life.

She’s a menace to everyone she comes in contact with.

The metal jailhouse doors clanged shut behind LS yesterday and her world instantly got very small. No more attorney and "expert" meetings where she can talk about me me me...

Gannon's friends and family now begin the long process of healing. I pray that the memories of sweet Gannon will provide comfort and with time, that the memories bring more joy than sorrow. I pray that they can now start finding joy and laughter in life. Even LS family will move on. HH is navigating adulthood now without parents. She "wanted to do the right thing" I think she will be ok, I pray she will be.

The impact statements were so moving and so very well done.

I commend Judge Werner, he maintained order in his court room and exhibited unbelievable patience. I love that he called out the hideous crime that LS committed and the sham of a defense. In doing so he also called out Dr. Lewis the imposter. I feel like she should be sanctioned. It was obvious to everyone that LS didn't have multiple personalities. I would love to know the comments from the jurors about that. I wonder if that was discussed when Judge Werner spoke with them before sentencing.

I feel like part of the reason the jury took as long as they did was not only to do a thorough job, but they probably just needed to talk about all the craziness of what they witnessed in the courtroom.

Great job, prosecution, law enforcement, Judge, jury...

I wish she qualified for ADX Florence. 23 hours a day with nobody to hear her blather on about herself or to feed off of emotionally would be literal torture.

I snapped these first 2 after verdict read, jurors being polled.
I see JG in back of room on right. Maybe wiping a tear in the 2nd one?

The 3rd one after sentencing - coming in for hug ? don’t see HH anywhere .

She did that interview after she had changed her story and said he was abducted and she was raped. When was the changed story released to the public?

During the press conference, DA Allen shared the same opinion although the ultimate decision is that of DOC.
Yes, I think she is dangerous. I saw her smiling and what almost appeared to be semi laughing while interacting with defense. This was just before the recess when the judge took 10 mins to get his notes together prior to sentencing. So it was after the verdict and the Impact statements. Unbelievably callous and self centred. No empathy, and psychopathic in my book. MOO

What happened to Maria?

Apologize if this has already been asked, this thread moved so quickly once the verdict was reached! When I was watching yesterday, I saw the defense seemed to be disputing something right before sentencing, and Judge Werner said they needed to put in an order. Can someone tell me what that was about? Thank you.

I think she's dangerous, too. I think it's only a matter of time before we hear about her trying to escape or stabbing a guard or inmate with a sharpened toothbrush.

I hope they don't house her with non-violent inmates. I think she's too big a threat.
