Right, I'm just speculating on what it would mean IF it turns out there were clothes in the backpack.

Maybe they will elaborate at the presser.

My first thought is getting rid of all evidence from their possession.

Do we know anything about the man that 'found' the backpack? According to this article, he didn't know Jessica was missing, yet he posted on the town's listserv that he had found the backpack and to "come and get it if they wanted it." :waitasec:

At about 1 p.m. Sunday, a man in Rock Creek posted on the Westminster town Listserv mailing-list server that he had found a backpack and a water bottle with Jessica's name on it. He was not aware the child was missing and posted, "If this is yours come and get it," Materasso recounted.

From the presser just a few minutes ago, they said they are not going to release a picture of the backpack or comment on the contents due to the investigation.

I think its someone in her own neighborhood and i think Jessica will be close to home The bag was tossed out as a decoy JMO!

LE should be able to determine if someone in Jessica's neighborhood has connections to the area where the backpack was found. A local posted up-thread that this isn't an area a casual driver would just happen upon. You kind of have to know it's there, it's not on the beaten path.

That struck me as strange, as well.

Good morning every one. Reading back and catching up, anything new in a nutshell?

News conference says they're going to search the open space from the Rock Creek subdivision where the backpack was found out to Hwy 93. The area they are searching looks like it will span open space from CO 128 north to Hwy 36. It will also move west into Eldorado Canyon, which is west of Hwy 93.

Thanx for posting, OwlMom. The info released in today's briefing is very concerning. Due to the news of the westward focus, imo, this indicates that the investigation & search area has expanded and sadly may indicate a slight acquaintance or stranger sexual predator abduction.

Dang . . .

But obviously the integrity of the investigation is much more important than satisfying my curiosity about the backpack and its contents!

I hope Jessica is found safe and sound. She's just a baby, really, and needs to be home with her mom.

I understand where you're coming from.. but frequently people post on a yahoo group that my neighbors and i are part of and say SOccer ball found or bike found etc.. come pick it up! After he posted that someone emailed him or messaged him and told him the significance of what he found and then LE was contacted. He wasn't the only one to see it, his next door neighbor also saw the backpack sitting on the sidewalk as she took her kids to school.

IMO....if they REALLY wanted to get rid of evidence, it would be in a garbage dump, burned, buried....not set out in the open of a residential neighborhood...

That struck me as strange, as well.

This was discussed on thread #1. Basically, the man thought he'd just found a lost bookbag/backpack and posted it on a community website saying come and get it. He mentioned that Jessica Ridgeway's name was on the bottle. A resident saw the post and contacted the man, letting him know that Jessica was a missing child. At that point, he contacted LE.

BBM, IMO...how could she have seen it when she took her kids to school? Jessica went missing on Friday....that would have to mean it had been there since Friday....I believe it was just spotted over the weekend???

I hope they search the houses of everyone in the area where the backpack was found because I'm sorry that is strange that it was just found today when she's been missing since Friday morning.

Depends on the perp. Ryan Brunn left a note stating where to find Jorelys' body about 24 hours after she was reported missing and some searches had taken place. Hell, he even helped search for her initially. Sicko.

ETA: It was 2 days later he taped the note to the trash compactor.

I'll try to find the post, but she backing out of her driveway for some reason

Morning Sleuthers, I was hoping for good news too. Thanks to posters and Nursebee for all the up to date links, maps and information. Thanks to locals for helping us understand the area and give clarifications.
At this point, my "feeling" is that JR was taken by someone local - likely in her neighborhood or close. The case is similar, in my mind, to Somer T. - the limited area where she could have been "taken" seems very specific. I hope FBI has developed a profile and LE is actively looking for all who fit. Prayers she will be located safely SOON.

Add: looking at the walkie man of her neighborhood, there were several DWTs. Those that followed Mickey's case pick up on those. Am not saying in any way a white truck was involved.... just that they are everywhere.

I guess what I mean is....the person who left the backpack could not have been LITERALLY trying to hide evidence (ie. never to be found again - like a shooter who dumps a handgun in a river, hopefully the weapon is gone for good).

Seems this perp was either sending a message, diverting OR attracting attention to that neighborhood, etc. KWIM?

here is the link about the neighbor

she, too, saw the backpack on the sidewalk around 8:15 this morning as she was headed out. She said it didn't really strike her at first because there often are children's bikes or toys left about in the neighborhood.

She said her husband currently was being interviewed at their house by FBI agents because he, too, saw the backpack.

Hi all, I don't post often but read frequently!

I just wanted to say that something about the phrase 'there is a good chance she has changed clothes' bothers me. If the clothes she wore to school that day were found in her backpack, what makes them say she changed clothes, rather than them being removed from her body? If mom noticed additional clothes missing from her room, that would suggest that maybe Jessica planned to disappear (though I think 10 is awfully young to run away or meet someone online?) The wording 'there is a good chance she has changed clothes' implies to me voluntary action on Jessica's part and it isn't sitting well with me.
