Dad's statement didn't sound like he was going to be pitching in for a first rate defense attorney. Glad to hear that.

There was a statement on channel 9 that said the police had searched the house and interviewed Austin weeks ago, but didn't have enough for an arrest.

Are the cops now claiming they suspected him all along?

Whoa! Do you have a link? I'm not from the area so I sorta depend on them and lately I've read so many I'm losing track. TY!

I completely missed that! Or missed one of the 9newscasts. Which newscasts or do you have a link?

I did hear that they canvassed that neighborhood, but not about they didn't have enough evidence to arrest him.

I have not read all 36 pages so my apologies if this has been previously posted! There was an article a few months ago about children who are sociopaths in the NYT. It is long but it's very interesting (and chilling): http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/13/m...nted=all&gwh=A08B1EE02E34C463455DEE4CA22DF54B

Sociopaths can come out of very normal families. Look at BTK Dennis Rader. They also practice on small animals like dogs and cats before preying on people. Sigg's mother did the right thing. IMO I don't think sociopaths can be rehabilitated. It's best for society if Sigg was incarcerated for the rest of his life. Could Jessica's death have been prevented? That's the million dollar question.

I doubt that Jessica had a chance. I believe him if he says that he drove past her, turned around and came up behind her. He has a known history of attempting an abduction using a toxic substance. I don't think she had a chance ... probably didn't see it coming, and was too small to fight him. The 22 year old in the park was luckier.

Oh I agree.

I keep wondering, since AS is a minor, why we have so much info on him? I thought if the perp is a minor that personal info isn't given to the public.
Am I wrong? Does certain criteria change this?
Just wondering.

Yes, usually here in Colorado we would NOT get a photo, etc. if a minor is arrested. But they are saying two things. First, they have a need to get a pic out there in case of any other crimes. Second, they say going to charge as an adult anyway.

In his family the person I most feel for is his little brother. How would he be able to face this in his school or with his peers!

The whole thing is horrific....

The little brother will live with that for the rest of his life...but it will 'subside' (maybe that's not exactly the right word) in time...

The Mother will never, ever get over it..and it will not subside....

My prayers and thoughts with the Brother and Mother...

I wasn't judging I dropped out of HS, I have a college education now but I dropped out and had my GED. I wish I had a prom :(

I pulled mine out and I'm homeschooling him. He's 14 and can already pass the GED. He takes two college classes a semester now along with some other stuff. When he's 16 he can go full time and be finished his associates and working on his bachelor degree by the time he's 18. It's keeping him focused, out of trouble, and he's loving it.

Speaking of Instagram, did everybody see the picture he had of what looked like the recovery site of Jessica's remains that had a vertical funnel like cloud topped by a hand with a pointed silver spear thingy coming out of the thumb?

Has that been mentioned/discussed? I've missed pages here and there.

Here is that picture from his Instagram.

Pretty sure that is not the recovery site, though.

now they say there is a gag order in the case per this video from 9news?

I'd like to know that too, sounds like they may have suspected something.

Has anyone gone back through the vigil pictures to see if Sigg was there? I am going to have a look.

I really don't want to derail this thread anymore with the whole "Dark Net" discussion, but I would like to clarify a few things. One-there have been no links posted to any dark net site. The links I included in my OP were articles explaining what the Dark Net is, for those who haven't heard of it. Even if links to the DW were posted, they wouldn't bring up anything because you can't access them on a regular browser. You need to install Tor Browser to view it. It is not something you can accidentally stumble across or google.

Two-Using Tor is NOT illegal. Some people use it for the same reason they might use a proxy browser-because it gives you anonymity online. It can protect against identity theft, it can be a safer way to conduct financial transactions, and with all of the new surveillance laws we have in place now, some people would simply like to protect their privacy from government surveillance. Journalists can use it as a way to interact with anonymous sources. Victims of political oppression can use it to communicate with the outside world. There are many, many legitimate uses for Torand other like services. But just as with anything in life, there are some who use it for nefarious purposes.

I do not suggest that anyone go exploring the dark web, unless they know exactly what they are doing. But people here seem to assume that this whole thing is much more nefarious than it actually is.

To my knowledge, no one here (including me, for the record) has broken the law, and I would appreciate it if people would not make those kinds of insinuations.

ITA with the parenting things you mention. That is an active and invested parent. Unfortunately not all parents are active and invested.
PS I was not talking about you. It was an overall view of what happens on the boards sometimes.

Oh I know, been here a long time, I never take anything personally...even when it is directed at me;)

That's a rocket launch. The part that looks like a hand may have been photoshopped, but I think the rest is just a photo of a launch. MOO

They said at the Presser naming Sigg that there was a gag order in place.

Huh??

I'd guess that's what made him confess; he didn't spend enough time reading. He probably let them take his DNA because he was sure he'd left none on her body, but he hadn't thought about what might have been left on the backpack or clothes. He may have thought he could come up with a good excuse for that until he found out he'd also dropped his cross.

Is it the same as, similar to, a mature student entrance exam?
I''m not sure what a mature student entrance exam is. :blushing: If you mean the entrance exam my son took, it was the same exam anyone who goes to school there has to take in order to register.

Thanks to you and to izzybizzy. I quit HS and immediately took my GED test so that I could work full time and save up to prepare for the birth of my adult son. I do not think i am a quiter and would like to think i am rather bright. The decision was a pragmatic one in support of my decision to have and raise my son. It was the decision of a seventeen year old trying to grow up quickly into a responsible parent and one i have never regretted.

I have dealt with the stereotype that decision has foisted upon me my entire life. Again, thak you. The button was not going to cover it :)

Wow, that must have been one heck of a birth!:floorlaugh: Sorry, I couldn't resist.

<SNIP>

Whoever represents this kid, whether they're hired by the parents or appointed by the court, will have to do everything in his or her power to give him the best defense he/she can... whether we like it or not.

If I ever needed an attorney, you can be sure I wouldn't be looking for one who decides if his client is guilty before a trial starts and defends accordingly. As they say though, 99% of attorneys give the rest of them a bad name!

Yes I understand what u are saying. But nonetheless, upon his arrest he is a minor. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a problem.

If that's what they are claiming, I don't buy it. How convenient that Mom just happened to figure out that her son was the killer and call him in, all while the cops were figuring out how to charge him. Right.

Found it ... it's at the bottom of the list:

"Public defenders argued that Sigg should be released on bond, saying he has no criminal history and is a low flight risk. But Chief Deputy Deputy District Hal Sargent said Sigg poses a threat to the community and cited "overwhelming evidence" against the teen, including a DNA match and his confession. The judge ordered Sigg held without bond.

... Jessica's mother was wearing a purple ribbon in her hair.

... Sigg appeared calm through the proceedings and almost looked like more of an observer. At one point, Sigg interrupted the judge because he said he didn't understand a portion of the advisement hearing.

So, even if Sigg is convicted of murder, Storey said, "because he's a juvenile we would have to have a sentencing hearing to see if he would actually even get life." Sigg revoked the waiver of his Miranda rights that he signed when he was arrested Tuesday night. That means he cannot be questioned without his attorneys present.

Westminster police said they received a call Tuesday evening that led them to Sigg's home

Sigg is currently a student at Arapahoe Community College. He did not graduate from Jeffco Schools but obtained his GED, a JeffCo Schools spokeswoman said"

I will be curious to discover where he claims to have dismembered her versus where he did dismember her. I simply cannot imagine him performing this act in the open space but am also trying to figure out how he would pull this act off at the family home. Even if mom was at work and middle school aged (reportedly) sibling was at school, that is only a matter of hours to desecrate this poor child's remains and clean up any associated mess before other family members return home.

I used a proxy server for years before I found websleuths!

It's great for when you get banned from a forum for stupid reasons. Thankfully that wouldnt fly here and that's why it's so nice here
