This is so sad. This article says that Hollendorfer confessed to his parents prior to his father's 2014 death. Also, that right after the death of his Father, he confessed to another family member (2014) and felt responsible for his father's death because he had confessed to him that he had accidently strangled and killed an escort and buried the body (it is not clear if this family member is his Mother or another family member).

The article states that Hollendorfer's use of escorts is what he blamed for ultimately destroying his marriage in 2012.

If true, he was the last person to speak with her and her cell tracked to the area of his parents house ( where he was living) on the evening that she went missing. He was interviewed multiple times in 2012 and 2014.

If true, he confessed to multiple people and nothing was done.

So it's possible that at he confessed to at least one other person and yet nobody came forward or said anything for several years? It will be interesting to learn who did actually provide the information to LE.

On Feb. 7, 2022, Hollendorfer was taken into custody on unrelated charges and interviewed again about Nichols' disappearance. He denied ever meeting Nichols, but investigators showed him photos of the initial search when crews found areas that had been dug up. One specific spot, called "GPR Site 03," was pointed out to Nichols, and he said nothing was buried there. Betty Hollendorfer was asked to identify the spots, and she said "GPR Site 03" was where her favorite horse was buried.

Days after that interview with the family member and nearly 10 years after Nichols' disappearance, a search crew again descended on the Hollendorfer property in Black Forest.

This time, remains were found. Investigators found black plastic about three feet underground near "GPR Site 03."

Soooo....charges for Betty coming soon???

Reminds me of 'ol Sheila/Patrick Frazee.

Hopefully they will release AA to public soon...much rather read it for myself.

Nevermind here it is:

His wife was actually the one that went to the FBI with this information....

:rose: for Kara.

It's horrible that his parents and ex-wife knew the truth for so long but never turned him in. Cadaver dogs led them to the place she was buried back in 2013 but they didn't find her remains at that time. On a second search all these years later, they find her in the same grave. I wonder if he had moved her before the first search warrant once he realized her phone records placed her at his parents house where he was living at the time?? And then moved her back again later? Yikes.

I can’t imagine keeping that secret. :(

From the above link:

“While the criminal case against Hollendorfer is still ongoing, Nichols' family wants people to remember Kara as a "talented, smart, very worldly teenager. She's somebody that mattered then just as much as she does today."

"When you're victimized, no matter what type of genre of criminal activity, it doesn't matter what you were doing, how you were living, any of that should play a factor it should be about that she mattered," said Michelle Bart, a spokesperson for Nichols' family. "She somebody's daughter, somebody's sister, many friends loved her."”

So, I guess I can come out and say now that while I thought it was possible she was murdered by one of her clients, or overdosed, I also thought it was possible her roommates were involved.

Also I’m not sure what to think about her not being found during the first search, but found during a second search of the same spot.

These are first reports, so things will probably be more clear later. But in the account below, LE evidently did not excavate.

Redirect Notice (People Magazine)

“In 2014, cadaver dogs searched the Hollendorfer property and marked a number of spots that were never excavated. However, Hollendorfer's mother, Betty Hollendorfer, told police the areas the dogs had marked were where various pets and animals has been buried, per the affidavit.”

Was he bragging?!
Makes me wonder if he has killed any others....

So basically this could've been solved eight years ago? How could it not be so obvious that the last person who was with her, near where her cell phone is pinging, was likely responsible? What am I missing?

From the AA it sounds like he was the main suspect and they brought the dogs to investigate, but the Mother let them know that these areas were all where they had buried animals in the past. Investigators probably attributed that to the dogs hitting on those areas to the dead animals.

However, the ex wife said that the suspect told her that he had told his parents previous to when he told her (2014). We do not know if he had told them at the time of the search in 2012.

You are right, the last communications were with him, her cell led to his parents address where he was staying. He denied eventually meeting up with her but said that he uses escorts and it caused the failure of his marriage. There was no confession to the ex wife at the time of the 2012 search but the ex wife said the parents were covering up for him ( I do not know if she tried coming forward or why she did not come forward in 2014 or if the parents knew in 2012) .

Hmm. Good point. Usually that’s one of my first thoughts in other cases - for some reason this time I’m still processing “Kara” so much I didn’t get to that point in my head yet.

Yes. We know serial killer types often target vulnerable individuals.

My other thought;after reading the affidavit...I've decided that I really don't want to know how it's possible to accidentally strangle someone.

Look at post #583 above. That is what was on The Charley Project a month ago. After she was found they evidently deleted it, including a photo of one of the unidentified women.
Could that possibly mean that the other women (or one) had been identified, I wonder?
