Just saw this on my local news:

“An investigation is underway after human remains were found in Teller County Friday night.

The remains were discovered by a hiker along the Catamount Walking Trail between Woodland Park and Divide, according to the Teller County Sheriff's Office.”

It always amazes me when LE do "thorough" searches with dogs and boats and then give up with the certainty the missing is not there, and then months later a passerby will just stumble upon the body. Is it that searchers develop blind spots? Apathy? Is procedure too rigid to allow searchers to be truly thorough or travel these routes the way people do naturally?

How close is the location of these remains to a way out of the park? Is it close enough her body could have been carried, or is it likely she was taken out there, killed, and the perp left on foot? Other than a second vehicle, is there easy transport out?

Googling "ring the peak" trail appears to show access for hikers, bikers and vehicles in some areas. We don't know the remains were even there when the search was conducted. We do know the dogs could not find a scent of ML in the car park where her car was found so, if it is ML (or someone else) then she may well have been taken to the body location and the car parked back at the Recreation area on purpose to mislead.

There is going to be a media release this a.m. I believe, from what I have read so hope we will have more info then.

Eta I just noticed the original article has been updated to say that the CBI have been contacted.

Oh no, I just saw this news. (Thanks to those who alerted in L&A's and TW's threads.) I couldn't help feeling Micah's disappearance was connected to TW's murder, but still held some small hope they'd find her ok somewhere. This doesn't look good. If this homicide is tied to TW's murder, I hope this awful discovery will offer some clue that will break these cases wide open.

It depends on what they mean by "near Catamount reservoir". There are roads all around the reservoir and through the area. The hiker was likely on or near a trail or road. I hope they weren't so quick to assume she took her own life that they neglected to thoroughly go over her vehicle.

Where the remains have been found appear to be closer to Green Mountain Falls than the Catamount Rec Area (off Edlowe Road, Woodland Park) where her car was found. Green Mountain Falls (GMF) is only 5 miles south of Woodland Park (WP). The Catamount Lakes area itself is huge and the whole loop trail is about 60 miles in total. There are several parking and access points to the various sections of the whole trail. Her car was approx 5 miles SW of WP and the remains appear to be 4 or 5 mile East of where the car was found, subject to more info from LE of course

I've posted a link above that describes an approx 6 mile section of the trail near GMF.

How far away from where these remains were found was TW found?

It's difficult to estimate as the roads are windy back roads (Rampart Range Road and Mt Herman road for instance) but 5 miles to WP then RR Road to Mt Herman perhaps another 10 - 15 miles so 15-20 miles between locations is my estimate. And if the murderer is living at campsites in the Pikes Peak area, they could have been camping anywhere within those points.
AJMO.

If this is ML (or anyone else as well tbh) and foul play is suspected then this is a big worry for all those using the trails.

Did they only find a skull? I think I read that yesterday.

And other bone fragments. They feel there is more possibly covered by snow and have closed the trail and started a search.
I don't have an idea for how a human body would be decayed and scattered by the natural process in 5 months.

I'm not confident they meant her remains were found west of GMF or if they were describing the location of the reservoir.
The Teller County Sheriff's Office says the partial skeletal remains were found off of the Ring The Peak Trail near the Catamount Reservoir, just west of Green Mountain Falls."
Just saying so we don't assume something and get off track.
And do we know for sure her car was at the parking off Edlowe Rd? There is a Catamount trail parking just west of GMF and there is also parking at the North Reservoir dam. I think those could all be referred to as in the Catamount recreation area. Maybe a local would be able to say how it is commonly referred. Although I know the one on Edlowe is actually called Catamount Recreation Area. I'm asking did LE say specifically that parking?
Also the remains were a mile from the Ring trail. Maybe a local can answer, is it common to go hiking and get off the trail that far? I see there are trails that intersect and provide access to the Ring trail but another trail was not mentioned.
Just thinking out loud.

animals feeding. I recall it being mentioned in other cases.

Bill Carson clarified the location of where her car was parked earlier in thr thread when we were discussing it.

Until they clarify exactly where on the ring the peak trail, it's a guess anyway. The reservoir could also better be described as south of WP too so the fact they have mentioned GMF , which only has a population of about 600, does make me think the remains were on the trail clos to there. When they described the car location they mentioned Divide, IIRC.

EL PASO COUNTY/TELLER COUNTY, Colo. - A 39-year-old was reported missing out Colorado Springs at the end of September.

Micah Lambert was last seen at a friend's house on September 23. Her vehicle was found abandoned in the parking lot of the Catamount Recreational area near Divide last Friday.

Micah Lambert's vehicle found near Divide, Colo.
Teller County Search and Rescue has conducted searches near where the vehicle was found. They reported below-freezing temperatures at night as well as snow. Crews have not found a trace of Lambert.

Anyone with information on Lambert is asked to call the Teller County Sheriff's Office at (719) 687-9652, option 5.

So Micah's car was in the Catamount recreation area parking lot. How far is that from Limbaugh Canyon?
Eta I have estimated that Catamount trailhead looks to be about 6 miles SSE of Woodland Park while Limbaugh Canyon trailhead is about 9 miles E of Woodland Park. But car is described as being left near Divide which is west of Woodland Park. Just wondering exactly where Catamount recreation parking is located?

The Catamount Recreation parking area that they are probably describing is at the end of Edlowe Road, which is between Woodland Park and Divide, Colorado.

Limbaugh Canyon is closer to Monument, Colorado, but there is a dirt road that goes between Monument and Woodland Park. That road is Mt. Herman Road, which turns into Rampart Range Road. Daniel Nations was spotted driving on Mt. Herman road near the Limbaugh Canyon area. It is not a stretch at all to think that he drove this back road to the Woodland Park area. I believe he was arrested in Woodland Park.

Just for clarification.

Remains may not even be Micah of course so we will have to wait for identification anyway.
