I just luv how he calls himself a science detective and has only a high school education. So... I'm a librarian because I work in a library and like reading -- even though I don't have a degree. Hahaha...

Yeah, and I'm a gynecologist because...:blushing: Uh.... Nevermind.

This is a REAL balloon boy story from 1969. Just thought you might find it interesting...

http://www.twincities.com/localnews/ci_13605684

wow, the 11year old ricky thankfully knew how to handle the ballon back then and also swim!

"Ricky was cool and collected. He guided the balloon to a splashdown in the Minnesota River, about three miles away. The basket tipped on its side when it hit the water and Ricky swam 25 yards to shore, where an unidentified motorist picked him up."

those balloons can get out of control fast, remember what happened at the macy's parade a few years?

Thanks VespaElf...Caught that on Prime News yesterday and found it unfortunately stuck in my head for a good part of the afternoon.
After a while I started to spice up the words a little...

“When you want to watch a hoax put on by a jerk
Foul-mouthed kids, crazy schemes that don’t work
Tune in to our show, don’t be so selective
Watch Richard Heene, Mental Defective!”
Very good! I would listen to both songs all the way through if you wrote the lyrics! :woohoo: I especially love "don't be so selective." That's perfect. That actually describes MOST reality shows.

Isn't that awfully long for an intro song. :loser:

Isn't that awfully long for an advertisment? :loser:

I can't believe I listened to those. :banghead:
Yes, they are long. These days they would never play such a long intro to a show, even if they were dumb enough to hire him. I was too scared to listen all the way through because 1) They were dumb and 2) I don't need a dumb song stuck in my head all day.

911 call by the wife about the kid. http://tmz.vo.llnwd.net/o28/player/audio/101609_balloon_911_v2.mp3

Dey sheed seeks thar moneis bax frem dat dere actin cless dey tooks.

Houston, we have an acting problem.

I know that 911 operators have to take people seriously but my God. If I were a 911 operator it would be all I could do to not hang up on them after the first 30 seconds.

I've watched a lot of Forensics Files and when they have audio of a 911 call, the bad actors stick out like Oprah's eyes whenever a large ham goes by.

What sticks out for me about that 911 call is Mayumi, the foreign English speaker, is explaining everything to the 911 operator. Why did Richard not call?

:woohoo:
LOVE IT!
I could seriously get into theme songs for imaginary shows!
We could do the theme for an imaginary show about an imaginary nanny!
OOPPS!!! Wrong forum I know but I just couldnt resist! All this imaginary talk gets me goin!

I was very upset thinking a poor child fell out of that thing.

Against my better judgment, I started watching the youtube video clips of the Heenes on Wife Swap.

She speaks much better English than I would have thought from the 911 call.

Perhaps, if this is all a scam, they thought she could play up her accent, etc, and cover up any lying going on. But it's also likely stress just made her speak less clearly.

However, as to the question of why she called instead of RH... I'd take a non-native English speaker over a "rage-aholic nutbar" any day.

From what I have read in other interviews...she was expected to do all the work first.
He loved that she would do anything he asked/demanded her to do.

Sorry if this has been posted.

I wonder if Heene is aware Bill Nye the Science Guy already is the new Mr. Wizard?

One of the reviews is funny:

"My eyes have been opened to the many, many uses of boxes.

For instance, this afternoon I hid from police in a box for several hours, while the global community believed I was suffering asphyxiating hypothermia in a speeding weather balloon built by my UFO-obsessed parents. "

In December of 1995 Richard Alan Heene published Offensive Driving, which was described as “A spoof humor book on how to be an Offensive Driver. How to parallel park at 55 MPH, drive by splashings, what to do with road kill and much more. Offensive Driving contains over 190 humor pictures. Please look at this book as a way on ‘How not to Drive.’” The book was a product of the memorably-named “Dick Weenie Productions.”

911 Domestic Disturbance call
http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives/2009/10/balloon-boy-911-domestic-disturbance-call-and-report

I'm not a lawyer and I don't play one on TV and I'm not even a non-attorney spokesman but I fail to see what they could get sued for? They own the rights to the show. They didn't produce it they bought the syndication rights, I would believe, and therefore should have no liability.

I'm most likely wrong because you're probably right. There's some reason to pass on all of those bucks. It wouldn't surprise me though if you see a reversal of that decision after they talk to their lawyers.

:cow:

What comes to mind with me is the Jenny Jones case. Somebody shot somebody because he told another man on the show he had a crush on him. The courts found the show and the network responsible and the dead mans family won an enormous amount of money. I think they're pulling the show because they were negligent in letting this family to come back on a second time with their extremely bad behavior, and with their inadequate background check.

I would consider attempting to stuff toilet paper down someone's throat and throwing milk on someone to be "assault".

Thanks, I don't know about assault but it's at least a battery. Do you know if this was the first or second show? Did the person stay after that? I don't watch the show.
